| When it comes to fan service I think it is important to mention people aren't against sexy characters or characters being sexy. There's an issue with fan service being so often involuntary; panty shots, groping boobs and ripped clothing etc. It often just creates the awkward dynamic where the men are often sex pests and the women have to be constantly ashamed of themselves. This isn't an inconsequential thing either, it influences characterization and if a show insists on taking an aside of an inappropriate sex gag or fan service moment it can really interfere with tone and pacing. "Why not just watch porn" is another issue major fan service oriented shows fall into too. If you want to watch something to be horny at the detriment of everything else why are you blue balling yourself? |

Fair point, edited my answer to reflect its not only about sex or violence. It's the same with basically anything (sports, racing, music...). I had singled out violence because people (from western culture) usually condemn sexual fanservice but think violence is fine. |

That's the gory equivalent of a sudden panty shot that had absolutely no reason to exist besides fanservice. Of course, that's not a problem in anime that is meant to be serviceable, but the people complaining about fanservice aren't the ones watching harem and ecchi anime. Sometimes it just gets in the way of an otherwise enjoyable story, unless it integrates it into the narrative like Kill la Kill and...Kill la Kill? What else? |

| This is just my perspective but fanservice(the good one), has its place and timing A good example of fanservice is Funny Valentine using her sex-appeal to get what she wants or to get out of trouble A bad example of fanservice is Tamaki(Fire Force) getting semi-naked and clumsy during a very high tension fight(Rekka vs Shinra), where the tension is gone and replaced by a comedic moment Fairy Tail abused this but Mashima never used it in high tension moments(at least that I remember), you just get tired of it because of how common it was...there I praised FT xD |

| Because it is usually distracting, embarrassing (if you're with company), pointless, and demeans the character. Particularly so because sexual fanservice is usually done through female characters, which means that an unfortunate amount of the characters I personally look to relate to are reduced to their tits and asses. If every anime that employed fanservice followed every pantyshot with a gratuitous shot of a male character's ass in tight pants then I would not be making this complaint, but we do not live in that world, now do we? |

| I don't hate fanservice, but I think their presence in anime reduces its quality. For me it looks like an author/director is not able to attract the target audience with a good story or well-written characters so he try to increase it at the expense of the fanservice content. And actually I don't get dirty jokes. |
| I don't know either, though it'd be understandable if they were not the gender or sexual orientation that the fanservice targets. I wouldn't complain about it unless it was some fetish I'm not into, like some of the stuff in Eiken, Quasar of Stigma or Queen's Blade. |
