Do you get influenced by your friend's rating

Say you're watching an anime that your friend really praised
One of his favorite. But when watching it you think it's plain boring or bad.
Would you be more gentle with the rating?

Can be the other way too. What if you see your friend rate a show that you really love with a low score. Does that bother you?

The best solution is to keep no friends. The integrity of your scores should take ultimate priority.

Yes, if I agree with his/her taste. Like someone I look up to or think we have similar tastes, I usually lean towards rating it similarly to them or being in a particular mindset (if they hate it, I try to see the flaws)

What if you see your friend rate a show that you really love with a low score.

I'm bothered, but it's not a huge deal.

Hmm, for me, I don't usually lower scores because of others but rather because of myself. I ponder after reading/watching something if it's really worth that high of a score or not before taking in consideration from others.

I'm not going to go easy on the score of the show just because my friend was the one to tell me to watch it. Fuck that.

Not really, because everyone has different preferences. We could have a good compatibility rate even with many differing scores in shared anime; and if someone is bothered by it, they're welcome to discuss those shows with me.

My friends' rating definitely has an impact (at least initially) on a show I'm about to watch. If I end up enjoying the anime and discuss it a lot with them, perhaps my rating may go up as a result.

My friends who do watch anime have shit taste and only really watch the big 3, SAO and tokyo ghoul type animes. Only watch what ever popular, then forget about by that time next year.

I could give less of a shit what random "friends" on the internet watch or what they rate.

There's a difference between
"my homies" and
"the people I respect, taste-wise"
(mutually exclusive most of the time)

Very few of my friends watch as wide array of genres as I do so they're generally just smaller pieces of the puzzle

Either way though I trust my own judgement, not like anyone else's opinion is going to affect how I rate something exactly

No why would i do that both on Mal and in everyday life people have their opinion not everyone can be the same it would be boring. What should i start arguing with Brucelad because he gave anime X score of 1 and i gave it 8 for example please that would be dumb esp when we share multiple of other shows we enjoyed for example.

Only as a joke maybe nothing serious ever.

Also i belive my own judgement first then the rest only 1 who can affect my scores in ME.

I try to my best not to shit on people's irl taste, for example I have a friend who's really into SAO but I try not to mention how much of a pleb he is. I don't change my taste just tiptoe around it and stay neutral, I'll usually just say I think the light novels are very good.

As for on here, I could care less about people's opinions with ratings, yea Nekomonogatari is the best part.

Well one of my best friends loves both SAO and Naruto and thinks they are masterpieces and gives them 10/10. I don't really know what to tell him so I just say "cool". He's ignorant so I can't converse with him.

No, I don't care how highly a good friend may think of a particular series, if I happen to think it's only mediocre, it will be getting a mediocre rating. I don't think my rating is influenced by friends at all.

What I watch is sometimes influenced by friends, if they recommend me something, I'll watch it if I think it looks interesting and I'm not watching much of anything else currently. But my rating will still be entirely what I think of the series.

Kinda i guess. If i'm between 2 ratings, like a 6 or 7, i'll check out the stats page and see what my friends thought of it. If they rated it lower then i'll choose the lower number, and if they rated it higher i'll choose the lower number.

So yeah i guess my friends ratings doesn't really influence me cause i like dragging down MAL ratings more.

Not on the worst day I can possibly draw breath.

I will never let an outside influence determine my ratings, nor would I ever allow someone else's low rating on something I like bother me. I think it's ridiculous to take someone's opinion so seriously.

Now if I read a friend's review and it sounds like he's just making things up or reaching then maybe I would address it, because I do have a friend that clearly loves to bash what's popular and sing the praises of obscure titles even if they're bullshit. He denies this but it's so clear that he has an agenda.

hmm, I usually rate titles based on enjoyment, and I often go through my list and lower the scores. It's hard to be more on the objective side if you're hyped up after watching something. My friends' scores don't really matter to me, everyone has a different taste. I usually just ask why did they give a high/low score to a certain title because I'm curious!

I rate based on my own opinion though I often find myself being less harsh on shows that friends of similar taste enjoy. And even if I end up disliking one of my friend's favourites, I won't insult them for it. I enjoy seeing other people's perspectives of things.

If I was to be super objective with my ratings then yeah, I'd say their ratings could influence mine. If they rate something low, and I'm looking to be objective I'd see a lot of the same flaws they did. But I rate more based on how much I enjoy it, objectivity is annoying.
