Books not manga or Facebook posts. But they can be any kind of book, whether for enjoyment or studying --- novel, textbook, etc. Is there a reason you like reading so much/hate reading so much? Do you like like it enough that you can call it hobby, or dislike it enough to call it a huge chore? If you enjoy reading novels, what are some of your favorite series' or books? Authors?

Me personally, I read much more my Freshman year of high school than I do now. Reading was how I kept myself busy on the bus ride home and during lunch. Then roughly a year later, I got a cell phone, made real friends, and ran out of books in my collection to read. The hobby kind of died down then. But I still reread some of favorite books such as Battle Royale and I Am Legend from time to time.

Only for my favorite series'. Little else (your vote)
Lost interest for most books. I started one and then lose the attention span halfway (which is why anime is easier lol). I have a few favourites that I'd read if I didn't have anything else to do.

The only thing I do more than read is listen to music. I read way more than I watch anime, books are drugs - I'd crumble up and snort them if I could absorb the information that way

Fuck yeah I do. I don't read much usually, but Game of Thrones made me buy a Kindle and the books have A-MAZING. A good book is always easy to get into and hard to get out. Can't wait till i finish GOT books and start reading Business Adventures by John Brooks. Anyway, if anybody has any business/war book recommendations, please tell me , because I want them baaaadlyyyyy

I enjoy reading now, but I hated required reading in school. The required texts were much more enjoyable upon revisit, when I proceed at my own pace. Reading is all I do during downtime at work.

most people feel guilty that they don't read enough. they keep hearing that it's good for them, just like how it's good to take your multivitamins everyday. but they--no, we-- are just not interested in books. why do we need books anyway and what's up with this guilt that society foists upon us for not being more of a bookworm? why should i force myself to read jane austen when i feel like throwing up at her use of convoluted sentences and big words. like seriously. i know it was written in the 19th century, but i see no benefit at all in tolerating it. plus, it's not as if i'm learning anything from it! yeah, i have some gripes with fiction.... it's just stupid how some people elevate this medium and look down on films, tv shows, anime, comic books, light novels, etc. it blows my mind.

It turned reading into a chore.

I used to read frequently back when I was young.
Now I only really read books for school assignments rather than for entertainment.
I have plenty of other entertainment mediums that I enjoy more. Maybe I'll get back into books like I used to.(doubt)

I only like reading one series, which happens to be LN. I do occasionally read one scifi series too (Foundation), but it is something I can live without. There was a period of time when I read like two books a month, but now I find that books simply can't offer me the kind of genres I want. Everything is just "okay". I do hope I can one day find that masterpiece that I always wanted, something that could re-invigorate my interest in reading, but I just don't see that happening.

Also literature is terribly organized. I've tried using goodreads, but it doesn't give me nearly enough info. Going to library or bookstore is even worse. Scifi/fantasy section is kind of self-explanatory, but then you get shit like "mature" where you can't find anything unless it's your favorite author. The same goes for children/youth.

Yes I love reading so much I would consider it a hobby. At school I read, when the teacher lets us chill in class or something I read instead of chat with my friends, if I finish my work early in class I also read, I read at home, at lunch, during gym. Basically any time I can. I just like reading and find myself in a whole new world when I do. Some people even tell me why do I read when I have a free period, but they just don't understand I love it. I guess some of my favorite series are obviously the Harry potter Series, Percy Jackson Series, Heroes of Olympus Series, The Fault in Our Stars, etc. Authors would be of course J.K. Rowling, Rick Riordan, and many more.

I used to love reading books but school ruined that for me. How they force you to read on their deadline and have to write things about it, It just really killed my interest in it. I would read these days as I no longer have to deal with school but I seem to lack the ability to focus any more. I am too wandering minded with bad thoughts that get in my way preventing me from reading and focusing on it. The only thing i can read is short articles. I'm not sure how to fix it because I would enjoy reading again and I have treid before. I just keep thinking about other things when I try to read or I read too slowly just to make sure i am understanding things even though I should be able to read fairly fast.

I liked the same authors. You should try the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher and the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix and see if they are to your tastes or not. Both have pretty cool magic systems, Abhorsen has a girl mc and Codex switches perspectives.

They are aimed at a more mature audience than that of Riordan and Green though.

You're kidding!!
Lightbringer is a waaay better example for Weeks.

I'm also currently finishing the Poirot series after which I'll finish the rest of the Christie books. Then there's Elantris, Warbreaker, Mistborn, Stormlight Archive, Reckoners Trilogy, Rithmatist and anything else Sanderson comes up with. After which Daniel Abraham's Dagger and Coin, the sixth book of Asoiaf, the next book by Butcher...
So yeah, my answer is yes. Even though I usually go for writers who I have a good experience with, I also give new by authors a chance like Anthony Ryan.

I do. I used to hate it when I was younger, mostly because it gave me terrible headaches-- turns out I needed glasses. That dislike kind of stuck with me up until I read Frankenstein (which is one of my favourite books ) when I was fifteen. I didn't really pick up reading as a regular hobby until I got into college though. I had to read a few books for some of my elective classes, and unlike most of the books I had to read in highschool, I didn't completely abhor them. That's kinda when I got an idea of the type of books I liked to read, and since then my reading habit has picked up significantly.

Yes, Lightbringer is good, but it also isn't even finished yet :d. Still haven't picked up the newest one either. Night Angel just hit me where it counted. The amount of heartache Weeks puts us through in his writing is just ungodly.

You didn't mention it so I'll have to ask, any thoughts on Rothfuss? Kingkiller chronicles to be specific.

I used to be a huge book reader (any kind of book, but mostly , history books) back in the Middle School. Then it just died out and I dunno why. I used to love it. I still have some books on my "Plan to read" list but I just can't find the time to read them.

Haven't touched a book in years. There was a time when I had to marathon as many New York Times best sellers as possible as a reading tutor and frankly, I'm burnt the fuck out. It's been 4-5 years since I've legit read a book that had nothing to do with uni or high school.

However, Shakespeare is the one exception. I actually read that shit out of pure enjoyment.

I have read, and still read lots. My favorite author is Hubert Selby Jr and I also enjoy the works of Hunter S. Thompson. Three new books I ordered from Amazon arrived today: a collection of H.P. Lovecraft and Clark Ashton Smith, and "The Conspiracy Against the Human Race," by Thomas Ligotti.

Even back when I was in high-school I was reading things like Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, essays by Chomsky on socio-economic issues, and literature by Kafka, Orwell, and Sinclair, along with the poems of Milton, Chaucer, and Dante. None of which were school-work related. I even read, "The Jungle," by Upton Sinclair for fun while in college, being asked by a peer if it was for a class to which I responded that it was purely out of interest.

Yeah, I'm big into reading :)

I do, but I don't have the fervor I did as a young man. Back when I was a teen, I'd read hours on end. Now I tend to read a couple pages, maybe a chapter now and then and then it's off to play games or movies. The problem is just my having too many hobbies requiring time divergence as well as reading.
