Shipgirls are money, money, money.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with the second film.

So it's still going to be in CG, right? I've been wanting to get into this series but I can't stand the CG animation.

The average Blu-ray.DvD sales in Jap for Ars Nova were 12 394 per volume, in japanese terms this is a huge money maker, Ship girls are all popular at the moment, so it isn't surprising they would now start a franchise with.

I am extremely happy that it did do well, cause Arpeggio is one of my favourites, what can i say i love a series that focuses on navy combat.

However i am really hoping that the second film is actually an adaptation of the manga storyline but i will take what i can get for now, Bring on the Ships( girls ) lol

Great news, hope it follows the manga, the words 'new material' always make me feel unsettled.

Today is a one-two for CGI sci-fi! If I have to pick a bone with Aoki Hagane, is that, despite all the source material that was not yet adapted, they chose the "anime-only ending." I hope the movies will remedy this

Awesome.
I actually enjoyed the series, loli battle ships was good and the fight scenes looked really good imo.
The CG did make other things look awkward like hair being blown by wind and running that was outside of actual fighting..

Not surprised here, the other day they released Trident's album "Purest Blue" (loved the songs it it) even though the series was completed way back so i was expecting something from them

Thought it will be a 2nd season but 2 movies are great, looking forward to it

The seires differs from the manga in story but I actually like both of them. The storyline for the anime was well-tailored for the running time of 12 eps. Definitely looking forward to the movies.
"I searched for an answer. A simple solution.
Blessings. The blessings of being alive.
The joy of being human, whose colors never fade.
But the unstable wingbeats of a butterfly give rise to an infinity of realities.
The truth of a thousand years laughs at human wisdom, distancing itself as it nestles close.
Cries of all kinds averted, yet poverty remains.
Humans devour each other, succumb to disease, and cry out in agony as they walk down the path of destruction."

Apparently the anime went original at the end there but still delivered a satisfying conclusion to the whole Kongo dilemma. Now I'd just like to know where the second movie will take the story...

Amazing news! Can't wait for this. Enjoyed the series a lot, would like to see the story of the 2nd movie. Hypothesizing that it may be 2 hours long, thats 120 minutes. That's about 6 episodes. They're plenty enough to cover for an anime original ending!

Also, the quality of animation must be higher, considering movies tend to have a solid budget. Good stuff there.

I hope they use the money they earned and render the movies at 30fps. The low frame rate really dampened my enjoyment of the show.

Really hope they improve Gunzo to more than the robotic win-all captain. He was the sole reason that I gave the first season a lower score.

They finally decided to put his hand to the series, I was hoping there was a S2, but already the fact of making two movies, I'm fine too.
I hope that in the first movie do a better job than the first season, but I doubt it, it should last a minimum of two hours and give us the amount of fighting that as in the first season have waned.

I can not wait to get their hands on.

Because they actually have brains and know that there are people who didn't watch the TV series but are somewhat interested because of all the buzz around it. Recap movie gives producers a chance to attract a lot of new people to the franchise. With KanColle getting anime soon, there should be a lot more people interested in the concept of personified ships by the time Arpeggio airs. It isn't bad deal for old fans either as there will be new scenes and as a movie it should look better than what we got on TV and BDs.
Having two movies, one of which being recap is very smart decision.

Based on the sales numbers I was expecting a full other season. I wonder if this movie will be just a test for a second season, or will try to end the story.

Personally, I don't understand why this series was so popular. I generally liked it, but there was so stuff that bothered me about it. Mostly the fact that all the other crew members are just kind of there without any explanation. The series pretty much starts off with: "This dude has a ship. Want to know why? Let's explain it with about a 2 minute flashback. Why does the rest of his friends end up being crew members? Who cares! Where does the girl with glasses come from? Doesn't matter, she's not in any of the flashbacks, but get over it!"
It just bugged me having so little background with these characters. It's like I don't understand why they're there.

I haven't read the manga, but if it goes more into explaining why those other characters are there, I would definitely read it instead.

The manga goes into much more detail about all the members of the crew, both in terms of back story and in character development.

At least it's a start - maybe they take care of the Red fleet in the movies, or they then lead into a new series. The news story is somewhat vague about what happens afterwards.

That being said, it's cool that more is coming, since, at least for me, it was by far the best Anime of the Spring 2013 season

Kancolle and Arpeggio are two different franchises that both thrive upon on another to spread the popularity of girls and ships, The first Arpeggio series took advantage of the rapid rise in ship girl popularity when it was on the rise last year and the Kancolle anime will now ride on the even more built up popularity that Ars Nova brought when it airs in the fall and These new movies will ride on the demand for more ship girls when Kancolle finishes airs.

They already have co-operated on several occasions and will continue to do so. Japan's Culture is heavily influenced with there navy culture and has always been that way, the very fact u are combining cute girls with navy ships is like taking 2 different culture interests and combining them to make something better at least as far as Japanese people are concerned .

It was good in spite of its animation, not because of its animation.

The MC of Arpeggio is a stone cold boss and carried the fuck out of what was basically a generic harem show.
