Ah nice to see members of the Dark Kingdom being introduced this episode..

Same could be said for Sailor Mars imo. I like her voice already.
>EVIL SPIRIT BE EXORCISED

Lol, that moment was priceless in this episode. I find the Demon Bus concept to be kinda interesting. I also like how Usagi stands up for Rei. Decent OST as well. I thought her transformation theme was pretty awesome :p

Queen Beryl is getting quite annoyed with Jadeite for failing to gather more energy's and to obtain the Legendary Silver Crystal. Nephrite and Zoisite were also introduced.
That moment between Mamoru and Usagi on the bus was pretty funny.

First the things, that bothered many people in episode 1 and 2:

Transformation: First time in a compact version. This means we won't get the full sequences for the introduced senshi's any more (or they will insta transform).

Face expressions: Compared to the first two episodes they improved it.

Animation: Though we got some disproportions (hands, eyes) here and there, it wasn't so bad like in Episode 2, so another improvement. Still I would like the Studio to focus on this much more and do it, like in the Music Video and better.

Music: Fits the scenes and I really liked it.

VA: Rei's Seiyuu did a very good job here IMO. She fits Rei's character very well.

Altogether it was very good and a 95% faithful Manga adaptation.
I really liked the bus scene with Usagi and Mamoru. It was amusing :D Rei's transformation, like Ami's, was very good. And finally the preview is in the Crunchyroll episode too, but I wouldn't call it a preview, when it contained only scenes from episode 1 and 2 :/ It was somehow a 'WTF? Where is my episode 4 preview' moment to me. I'm kinda disappointed :( That and some few weird anatomy errors were the only bad stuff here.

Pretty much what we see like in the origiinal. But sailor mars! It was a bout time. :D

Gahhh I'm so happy with this remake. This episode was epic imo. Rei and Usagi bonded instantly, they aren't fighting "yet". But still. I like how they noticed each other right away. When ami pointed her out, and her heart shaped eyes, and when Usagi was defending them and Rei noticed it was her. It was funny how Usagi was denying it. Loved every single second of this episode.

Usagi my fav chara, and Rei my 2nd fav chara. Now I can die happy. Except not really. BEcause I need to watch the whole damn thing! :D XD

Rewatch!

Mod Note: Spoiler tag added. Since there are two pre-existing sources (first anime and the manga) that have some very different events, it is possible that this version will not follow either previous version letter-for-letter (up until now it has been following the manga). Discussing things that haven't happened yet in this series, but did happen in the manga is a spoiler and should be tagged or posted in the separate thread on deviations from the manga.

Didn't notice Yuka Komatsu (Setsuna Higashi from Precure, Karui from Naruto) voiced Mii's mother.

Anyway, rather good episode again, liked Rei's personality, it was a while since I watched version of episode where she appears for the first time in first anime, but she did seem calmer and nicer with Usagi this time than what I remember.

Her transformation is also fiery and fierce, but I think I still like Ami's the most.

Rina Sato is definetely doing good job as her new voice actor, after Michie Tomizawa who is now Kaito Kuroba's mother Chikage Kuroba.

And speaking of Michie Tomizawa and her Rei voice, I watched this video few days ago...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLTAqYO2JBk

It's nice to hear saying famous Rei's line again, but her voice seems noticeably old for girl of Rei's age.

Anyway, as I said, good episode, my favorite scene is during Jadeite kidnapping Rei, and Usagi entering that dimension with bus - I think background music was really great and dark, kinda reminded me of some Yasuharu Takanashi's things from Naruto: Shippuuden, and Fairy Tail.

The only thing I didn't like were some weird facial expressions that makes me leave this anime aside until whole series is available in 1080p Blu-ray rips which usually look much more refined.

Rei's voice really suits her. Damn, I really like her character.
And Usagi's voice is still annoying.
Rei's transformation scenes was pretty nice.
Also, do they really need to spin so much while they're transforming? And when they are saying their signature speech (idk how to call it), do they really need to wave their hand so much? It kinda irks me.

I hope they will, cause these errors and sometimes sloppy animation are a pain in the eye. If they do that and maybe redo Usagi's transformation a bit, then I willingly rewatch it.

Great ep. I was waiting for Rei since she is my favorite scout. I enjoyed her transformation also. Though how odd Toei didn't follow the manga to the T like they did in the previous eps. I hope thus don't mean complete change all the way.

The best episode yet! As with Jadeite I love Nephrite and Zoisite's new look.

Rei doesn't seem to be as much of a hot-head as she was in the original. I like this new Rei a lot. I can understand why Luna thought she might be the princess.

Compared to the original demon bus episode the tone in this episode was more serious. It still retained some light-hearted moments such as the cute Usagi x Mamouru bus scene which was good.

Well it's official. If Mamoru didn't know about Usagi's secret before he definitely does now. Just like his previous counter-part he always seems to close by whenever Usagi's around.

Still not a fan of the whole CGI usage for the transformations, but DAMN! Rei's transformation really did leave an impression! The OST for her transformation was splendid too. Can't wait for the OST to come out so I can hear it again and again without the sound effects of the transformation.

I can't really remember the old Sailor Moon anymore, but it does seem Rei is nicer towards Usagi compared from what I can remember.

Sure, there are still enough mistakes in the animation and facial expressions. But compared to episode 1, it's already much better!

Ah yessss, my heart is skipping beats when Dark Kingdom is on screen <3

Great Mars transformation, my favourite so far.
And finally Mamoru looked the way I actually like him, idk but he seemed so weird in the first 2 episodes...

However, I'm seriously missing some of the humour we had in the old version... *sighs* Cystal is so pretty, but I still feel as if something is missing...

Wow that was remarkable. I was totally blown away this week.

Of course Rei's transformation is the best.. they focused more on the aesthetic of fire than the CG and it looked great.

Do I even need to point out how remarkable the music is as well? Wow.

One thing I always love is how they work together, there isn't just 1 who stands off to the side letting the rest do the work, all of them had a purpose and they filled it well.

The humor was good when it was there, cute and quick. I always forget how dark Sailor Moon is though.

Animation? Transformation sequence was good, still not a fan of the faces, but otherwise I still think it's gorgeous. Would like more fluidity though but I doubt it. Regardless Animation is only worth 10% of my overall score anyway.

5/5 this episode and successfully passed Barakamon as my favorite of the season now.

Mars' transformation is the best. It has such a great BGM too.

I went :( when Jedaite mentioned about him being familiar with Mars' face. I would love to know more about the Four Generals' past/future. The theory in the last volume also makes me wonder about their fate and whether they will show up again just like other senshi. Too bad they didn't cover it in both the manga and anime. Takeuchi should make a spinoff about the Four Generals

And lol did Tuxedo actually went out at 6 PM with his suit and cape? I giggled when I heard the cars passing next to Tuxedo and imagined the face of the drivers when they see a random masked person in black staring at a wall

I like the show but comparing it with the old show, something seems really off. I don't know if it's just the updated animation but I really think it's the pacing or flow of the show that seems to really bug me. It feels like in each episode the characters talk but then there's a slight pause between each dialogue and with each scene it seems to just jump to the next scene that kinda throws the pace off.

Wow Rei's transformation is the best by far. She has always been my favorite senshi, I can't help but fangirl the whole episode.

And the choice of VA? Fantastic. I know the Hino Rei from the manga is mature and elegant, (unlike the Hino Rei from the original anime whom I'm more familiar with) I really think it hits the mark. /end_Sailor Mars_fangirling

This episode's really different from what I remember. IIRC, in the old anime, it was Ami who chased after flight attendant Usagi. So Tuxedo Masks knows about the secret now? :o

The very second that happens, I am out of this show.

It will be a retread of previous anime's bullshit, where no villain actually suffers a fitting fate and the heroes are so fucking obsessed with atonement and finding good in people that it turns into shitty sugar-fest.

ITs a freaking war. The fact that senshi are willing to kill their villains for what they believe in is IMPORTANT POINT that is not completely lost.

Not to mention Rei being an asexual who has no interest in romances or relationships was one of keypoints of manga and THAT would ruin it.

If that is the case then I am all for it. Technically that wouldn't be considered filler if it has canon relevance to the story and characters. It would allow them to flesh out the characters more and even add more complexity to the storytelling via foreshadowing and symbolism. That is of course if that is what they are doing. I never read the manga nor did I finish the original anime, so I am judging it on it's own... Since I can't really judge it otherwise :P

I explained why in my previous post I feel it could be good for the series... While I do agree with you that taking weight out of a war would be a hit against it, it can make up for it elsewhere.

Also... Just because they add romance doesn't mean a character won't die fittingly... Where did you come to that conclusion from?

Also... Saying "Nobody cares about that" is a bit rude... Especially since you are telling it to a person who seems to legitimately care about it. o-o

I care. I always thought Sailor Moon world was a lot more complex than what the manga showed. And as kjesta points, it's BECAUSE of the illustrations. Which are concept art of what Sailor Moon is and in my opinion are the legacy of what SM world is. Everybody who knows SM from years ago and from the manga is probably hooked on the Moon Kingdom idea.

I rewatched that scene where Jadeite says he's attracted to her `even though he has never met her before`. And I may be paranoid to unimaginable extent but WHY WOULD THEY MAKE HIM SAY THAT unless it was what kjesta says> FORESHADOWING of what's to come.

Its not like it was in the manga. THe manga version is better for pure shock factor already.

This change would mean they would need to make MORE changes either to fix it or to explain it and I have no interest in that.

The great factor about about Dark Kingdom villains in manga is that they are irredeemable. They are not their woobified versions of previous anime adaptation where they go around angsting for LOOOOOOOOVE. They do their jobs, they die brutally and then we learn why its sad.

I am watching this to see manga version be done justice. Not to watch yet another bulshitty anime-original take on it, where generals get bullshit redemptions and tragic deaths. That's how they sold this to viewers too, going even as far as naming episodes after manga chapters.

THEN DO THE FUCKING FLASHBACKS instead of messing up the storyline.

I have no interest in present Rei
angsting over present-Jadeite and vice-versa. What I do have interest ? Seeing him die brutally b y her hands and THEN learn why its so fucked up and sad.

FMA:Brotherhood got it right.

THis is the same as if Brotherood suddenly decided to add FMA 2004's villain characterization into it, ruining it all.

So to sum it up...

- You think shock factor is a good thing.
- You think one dimensional villains is a good thing.

I could go into explicit detail as to why those are not good things, but honestly I feel they speak for themselves.

I understand your disappointment if they indeed go down those routes but honestly I think it's a little bold of them to do this. It's possible they won't need to change as much as you think, it might even just be small scenes here and there or maybe even flash backs or dream sequences. I am not saying this is necessarily a good thing, but it most definitely has potential to be.

Yes I think sticking to the source material WHEN IT IS WHAT YOU PROMISED TO DO, is good.

No, I think its okay to add depth to characters AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT ALTER THE PLOT. Give them the damn flashbacks(There is perfect spot for that near the end of the arc), give them more scenes in between the manga-storyline, explain to us mor ein depth on why its sad, but do not change what is already here.

AS I said FMA: Brotherhood got it right. SMC so far got it incredibly wrong.

Its not bold, its infuriating and it shows that they do not respect the source material -

Arguing about it and saying 'Tokei you are a crappy Anime Studio' won't help either Fai :( That's the sad fact about all Studios these days and I'm somehow disappointed in Toei too. Besides, it's not like their members are reading posts on MAL or other forums and saying 'Oh, they didn't like the animation in this episode', 'Eeeh I put so much effort in Usagi's transformation, when I was drunken eating spaghetti bolognese :( ' (<- lol stop me please!) ...and that they will fix it next time. Yes we all have mixed feelings about the reboot. And yes, call me nostalgia fan, cause I'm half-defending SMC, but what can we do? Nothing, really.

Yes I think sticking to the source material WHEN IT IS WHAT YOU PROMISED TO DO, is good.

No, I think its okay to add depth to characters AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT ALTER THE PLOT. Give them the damn flashbacks(There is perfect spot for that near the end of the arc), explain to us mor ein depth on why its sad, but do not change what is already here.

Its not bold, its infuriating and it shows that they do not respect the source material -

Fair enough. You just answered your own issue there though. If there is indeed a spot you feel would be perfect for all this, then there shouldn't be an issue so far. Of course if they add a bunch of crazy stuff that goes away from the source material they will indeed be lying, but they haven't done it yet, so I don't see why you are so angry...

Thus far the series has been enjoyable to me, both from an enjoyment standpoint and even from a critical standpoint. It's hard for me to speak for the source material when I have not read it (Though I do plan to at some point).

If however, the change is a good thing and was the mangaka's idea, then I do not necessarily consider it filler nor disrespect, if anything it has more respect for talking to the mangaka about it. Hence why I say it is a bold choice.

Edit: Post below me - V - That too.

Wow Rei's transformation was pretty good, and Jadeite was defeated so easily when she defeated just a single attack.

Pretty much liked Rei's personality in here, as well all the voices on the characters. I hope Tuxedo Mask gets more screen time and helping out the girls in combat.

It was pretty funny when Usagi gets embarrassed in the bus scene XD.

Mod Note: This post provides details about much of the direction of the Dark Kingdom story arc to further the contention of the poster that something should have happened in this episode which may or may not have done so. This is a series episode discussion. Do not spoil by introducing future events or details of the arc.

big quote here:

mmm I really don't know how other animes managed to do with animating their original manga. However, from my point of view (which I am pretty aware that not all will agree with), if they decide to expand on the concept that miss Takeuchi created but did not pass through to the manga (which by the way, IS subject to a lot of changings that are not the original creation of the author... a good example being Usagi's hair color which miss Takeuchi originally designed differently) then I can die happily here and now. Because I value a lot more the original idea of miss Tacheuchi than what the manga appeared to be as a final product designed at a target public.

I believe art is purely original. They said miss Takeuchi is collaborating in this anime and her decisions are valued this time, unlike in the previous anime. I trust this. If this is her idea, if she thinks this is what she meant, then this is original author work. Not original anime.

But I cannot help to be overly excited about it. In a sense, this is what I would have wanted from this series. I hope it's happening. For it to show us things that weren't said before.

Also wanted to point this about Rei: she's a miko just in this life. I don't think this is what should define her. She is who she was as a guardian in the past. Her new life is just a new start. Which should not negate the person she used to be. And I think the girls, in the manga, all do come to the conclusion that it is more important to follow their initial duties and identities, while coping with the things they cherish in their new lives.

I don't want to turn this into a fight. Doing so, would be terrible on a forum section dedicated to Sailor Moon :P which is a concept that stands for too many beautiful things.

Yes, I'm obsessed. But building on this idea just made me jump for 10 minutes in my room out of excitement. That did not happen in the past 5 years xD

@Keten thanks!

P.S.

If anyone is wondering what illustration we are talking about, it's this
