Not much into his work but I'm sad to hear about his death. Still a young director in his prime. He will be missed, farewell Mr. Kon.

Rest in peace Satoshi Kon. I'll miss you so much but your movies will live on forever. I've said it already and I'll say it again... I just can't believe he is gone. This news is so sudden and I would have never expected this to happen to him. He was only 47... my condolences to his family. I hope his new film is still completed and released in his honour. I am sure it is what he would have wanted.

It happens because all the best known people in anime are really old, the new talent and the younger generation have had very little exposure so far. That's why all the big deaths we hear about are for people like Kon. It wouldn't surprise me if Miyazaki died in the next couple years really.

RIP Kon. Didn't see any of your stuff but had been planning to seeing as how so many people go on about your works.

He wasn't really old, he was only 47, a whole 22 years younger than Miyazaki. He died way before his time.

Yes, sorry, I didn't know that till just now. They way people kept going on about his works I assumed that he was one of the older crew, but no, he was only 46.

Yeah, before his time.

Not so much a curse... It's more like a tumor: kawaisa. Also more commonly reffered to as moeshit!

He was a great warrior in preserving the dignity of anime and he will be missed.

Wow, words cannot describe how much this sucks.

Perfect Blue was one of the first anime movies I watched (might have been *the* first, I can't remember) and it just blew me away. Still to this day I get goosebumps listening to the soundtrack, which so eerily provokes every haunting moment.

This is, indeed, a huge loss for the anime industry - directors of Kon's caliber are few and far between.

R.I.P.
You've come a long way, baby.

I find it disgusting that you've used a topic about the death of a much lauded director to hate on moe anime. That has nothing to do with anything. Cancer killed Kon, not moe.

/waits for comment about how I'm only pissed off because I have K-ON!! in my favourites.

According to my friends, this guy is fucking ace.

It's time to watch Paprika, Perfect Blue and Paranoia Agent now. Looking forward to it.

R.I.P. Satoshi Kon. You will be missed.

Once again, rest in peace Satoshi Kon. I can't stress enough how much we'll all miss you.

No...NO!!! D:

I really, really want this to be fake, but alas, this really happened. I haven't been this devastated by the death of someone in the anime industry since Keiko Tobe's (author of With the Light) passing.

I've loved every piece of Kon's work that I've seen. Tokyo Godfather's was a heartwarming and funny film and I've enjoyed Paprika more than any Ghibli film I've seen. They've teetered between the realms of fantasy and reality and had plenty to say about society and humanity today.

R.I.P., Kon. The animation and film industries feel so empty without you now.

Especially in August. Remember 2008? Kawai Eri ;_;

It was one of the most beautiful voices, and now one of the most critically acclaimed directors. Both to cancer, and both in their 40s.

O_O

That is a frightening coincidence, but now I've been reminded of Kawai's death. Whenever I listen to her music, I cry or become depressed.

I'm so sad to hear this. I enjoyed his movies, even if the majority of them confused or disturbed me. Tokyo Godfathers was an exception and is one of my favorite movies, anime or not. It's very depressing that he died so early when he still had things he wanted to direct. His style was so unique and no director will ever be quite like him.
