This episode was so good, it made me want to pick up the manga again lol. I love One Piece but it can take forever to get to the good parts in the anime. a good 25 percent of the ep was the characters running lol

They protect a nakama no matter what, even if they have to die! Classic One Piece! I loved this episode. And I wish I could meet this kind of loyal people in real life, but it's just a dream...

Whoa, such a crazy twist, I didn't see it coming at all! It's been a few years since OP surprised me this much, probably the first time after the timeskip O_O Loved it! I even got teary-eyed during the reveal, Minks' loyalty is unbelievable. Shocked Zoro isn't something you see everyday too!

This arc is already better than previous one. Hope they won't ruin it!

Well, I guess One Piece is great again. The feels. Like a punch in the gut.

Oh, pitiful shadow cloaked in darkness.
Thy actions cause men pain and suffering.
Thy hollow soul drowns in thy sins.

Ah, so the Minks are masters at bullshitting. To be honest I really don't like this twist because it takes away the impact of Jack's attack on the Minks. They were portrayed as an innocent third party that had nothing to do with the Samurai and were just victims of a misunderstanding. The fact that they actually knew who Raizo was and were lying to keep him safe just feels like they brought this whole mess upon themselves.

Not saying that justifies Jack killing their people but it just makes his persistence more reasonable since he most likely had a solid source tell him that Raizo was in Zou. Then there's the fact that the situation could have been avoided had they given Raizo up which would've been impossible if they actually had no idea who Raizo was or if he was even on Zou.

So yea story wise, not a fan of the twist.

It's the fact that what happened to them was completely unnecessary and could've been avoided that makes this episode so impactful. They did bring the mess upon themselves, that's the point. It's self sacrifice at it's finest.

Maybe if it was delivered properly but instead it just felt random as hell, hence the lack of impact it had on me.

Had we actually known Raizo, the Minks and their relationship with the samurai prior to the invasion then it would've been much more impactful watching them lie and sacrifice themselves to keep him safe. Instead it just felt like it came out of nowhere since there was absolutely no way you could tell they actually knew who Raizo was. Not a single hint that they were lying.

It felt as if they really didn't know anything but then somewhere down the line Oda changed his mind and decided to go down this route.

I've not had any spoilers at all for Zou so I was no way in hell expecting that!
What a twist!!! *o*
This is what it must've been like for people who kept up with One Piece entirely spoiler free...I'm kind of envious.

Also, I wish someone could tell me what the name of that OST was at the end, it gave me goosebumps.

So Raizo is on Zou after all- and the Kozuki clan and Minks have some sort of age old bond. I'm just wondering what Raizo knows, because it's gotta be important stuff if Kaido's men are coming after him. Maybe it's something to do with the Poneglyphs??

From the way I see it, it just opens up a entirely different perspective on the Minks with just a simple sentence. It also makes you wonder what kind of man Raizo is and the relationship between the 2 parties. It was likely supposed to be one of those shock factor moments where it doesn't need to be built up, it just hits you like a bolt. I think it works better that way especially since those seem to be pretty rare in OP.

It was about time the samurais become relevant to the story. I've been wondering what their purpose was since they've been around since the beginning of the New World half.

That twist was certainly strong. I’m used to twists being foreshadowed, having a least a moment where we can start to doubt what we are seeing. Normally that’s a good method and it makes sure the beard being pulled over our eyes doesn’t feel cheap. But in this case, it was phenomenally done. While thinking that the crew should have been forthcoming with the reasonable Minks and thinking that Kin’emon and Kanjuro are the types to repent for their guilt even if unintentional, we get hit with shock and tears from the Minks. A beautiful new track to illustrate the ties between the samurai and the Mink with every note. And the phrase “Raizo-dono”. Our mind flashes, what is Raizo’s importance to the Minks and what is his mission to tolerate the slaughter and torture of their people and leaders, destroying their land, permanently crippling the rulers?!

To speak on the people who think this twist was cheap because of the lack of foreshadowing, the reason I strongly disagree is that the lack of foreshadowing is what made me so confident and thus why the twist worked. Earlier I stated that Jack is disgustingly brutal and thorough but smart. He is able to show Kaido’s power and remove any chance for their enemies to compromise and in destroying everything he makes a statement that:
  • A. If Raizo is here SOMEONE HAS TO COME OUT ABOUT IT.
  • B. Even if Raizo isn’t here, this is simply a sacrifice that Jack is willing to make.
It was a powerful move from him showing how reliable and brutal he can be. He was a wonderful introduction to Kaido’s disasters and the fact that I believed if they brought Raizo out he would leave was powerful for the twist and for Jack’s characterization. I earnestly believed all of this and again, the lack of foreshadowing from the people where I would expect some made me go against the most important speculative rule: assume what is most interesting. I totally didn’t! I didn’t even play with the thought that Raizo was actually being hidden, I crossed that off prematurely. And by doing so the fact the Minks collectively sacrificed so much for a friend overpowers us as we realize just how strong they Minks really are.

Their role here was so powerful it reminded me of Whitebeard fighting the world for his son Ace. Or Luffy declaring war on the World Government for Robin. But in the Minks case it is even more shocking because, it wasn’t “badass dudes risking their lives to save their bros!!!”, it was a people who all agreed to risk their lives and die for a friend of their country. It wasn’t winning or fighting to the end in a bloody spectacle, it was being tortured and gassed and staying quiet for an ally. They are on a different level for me. So much so that many of us didn’t have a clue and believed that Raizo was never here to begin with. claps for Oda and the musical choices for the anime

Now I don’t know if this twist will continue to be strong in the reasoning behind it all, but as a twist in itself, it is sincerely powerful. Beyond this, we got great art of Kin’emon and Kanjuro who I love to death as they adorably walked through the jungle and reunited with their boy Momonosuke. Their alternating responses to his unease: “oh no” and “you poor thing” and Momonosuke’s relief that Kanjuro was okay made me realize that it totally feels like Kin’emon is the dad and Kanjuro is the mom. That and I got a few great laughs, the first joke I adored was when Robin blushed at the memory of Ryunosuke imprinted into the ground before looking at the Tiger, and the second was when Shishilian shouted and alerted the two kings into seeing each other while the men tried to redirect the two.

What the hell just happened, i didn't expect that to happen even in 1000 years so the monk tribe was like an familly with the clan of Kin'emon, i didn't expect the kings to hate each other so much too at first i thought "WHAaaat? i didn't expect samurai's to be so stupid" and then i waited for the final of the episode and i didn't believe my eyies masterpiece episode loved it!

The Fact that they didn't sell their friends it's very rare even in the world of One Piece!

Darn plot twist. Seems like Kin'emon, Kanjuro and Raizo are much more than we realize, so much so that an entire village was with them.

The people of the Zou island are really something else dude. That unbreakable spirit. They are honestly really pure-hearted guys.

Not to forget, the music was really good at the ending.

I legitimately did not expect things to go like this and I was surprised at how powerful this twist was in evoking my emotions. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that I was as shocked as the Straw Hats upon hearing this revelation.

Everyone in Zou went through so much suffering yet they still upheld their word to their friends until the end no matter what happened to them. Damn.

I really thought that they didn't know about Raizo and had him on the island, but turns out i'm wrong, really took me by surprise. Just what kind of relationships do the Minks and Samurais have to be so dedicated in not giving up their deep connection?
