Seeing where all the others died was like what I imagine all my Oregon Trail rounds end up like. Man proposes, God disposes.
Well, we're all set up. I wonder where this tale will take us.

I knew he was going to die on that chair but it still hurt me so much (cried). We don't even know his name and that's make it so much sadder. One of the best first episode ever.

The first episode...incredible.
Seriously what a great episode, and it looks like if this keeps up...it's going to be a very good anime. Also the soundtrack is really good and the opening too.

it was great... but i'm a tad disappointed with the here and there derpy face and inconsistent animation budget .. the facial expressions r realllllly important for this series.. so i hope it doesn't stay derpy....

am looking forward to the upcoming arcs

y'all better prepare y'all's tearducts for some overdrive

Sometimes, some series just start off with a profound feeling, the signs of a masterpiece, and I think this has all those signs.

Quite a depressing first episode. Broke my heart to see the boy living all alone, still hopeful, searching for his people. Until finally, he loses all that hope. I hope at the end, he had some small measure of hope and peace as he left that world.

An emotional first episode. I felt so bad for the kid when he found what was likely the remains of his family.

it was interesting. and it literally gave me an eerie chill when he found that marker with he red X and then his family's grave markers

but him apparently stabbing himself in the leg with small sticks? and that giving him sepsis and killing him? that was kind of a reach. and who tf travels like that in the dead of winter? they all deserved to die

6/10 start. i'll keep watching for now to see what happens, but the MAL rating seems awfully high for this premiere

This is one of the best first episodes to any anime I've seen, and is nearly perfect. The only thing holding it back from being complete perfection is the narrator in the first scene and last scene. He didn't need to talk, we saw everything he was saying and the director should have just let the audience take in all that was happening along with the beautiful score that was playing behind it. other than that it's perfection. 95%

Doggo dies, Kid dies
I like the premise a lot already, the kid dying probably would have affected me more if I knew that there was no way he could survive in that environment. Still sad to see a happy character die though.
Main thing I am wondering is why did this god just place this thing on Earth? Boredom? If so then that’s a pretty funny god.
Pretty good first episode!

This was probably the most powerful episode I've seen yet, this entire season. Odd Taxi is still my AOTS but this might be a runner-up depending on how it goes from here.

I've seen the manga but never read it. There were predictable parts like when the boy died and the wolf took over his body because it did the same to the wolf when it was still a rock and the wolf died near it. However, being predictable is not a bad thing.

No, rather, even though it was predictable, it still had a resounding impact and I began to feel for this boy who I only got to know this episode. He had no idea his pet wolf/dog had just died and he was truly alone. The way you can see how he held so long onto a sliver of hope despite his impeding doom. My heart broke for him. The music, the voice acting, the atmosphere, the animation, everything was top-tier.

10/10 beginning imo.

Omg, I delayed watching this anime for some time because I was little bit afraid.
Now I know why... Oh, the feelings... I just couldn't. Crying at the first episode.
I felt really sorry for the boy, I'm wondering how it will continue now.

Fantastic episode.

There's the fictional world setting with the cold temperature but I really like how Fushi is introduced into the show. There's even some room for comedy with his scenes, which I find to be amusing.

There's a lot of human emotions shown in this episode including Fushi's personal feelings, tears, and chemistry with that wolf. A great start imo.

What a beautiful masterpiece of an episode. No words can describe.

I'm blown away. I walked into this now knowing anything about this. I'm glad I gave it a shot! One of the best first episodes of any anime I've ever seen. The music added so much power and sentimentality behind the scenes. I became more interested as the story went on when I realized this kid was probably going to die before the episode ended. There were so many emotions in this episode. Curiosity with the orb, then joy, optimism, sense of adventure, perseverance, delusion, despair, sadness, pain, defeat, humility, love...excellent presentation all around.

A very emotionally touching first episode. I did not expect such a level of sophistication either. This is a story deep into metaphysics. I like it so far.

At first glance I was like - 'goosh, another isekai type anime' - but as the episode continue further this anime really started to touch my soul with the way they handled music, progression and drama. I really hope that they will try to achieve that kind of feeling for the whole series.

gee kid sure talks to self alot, but positivity's helpful in hopeless times. Wolf's weird eyes aside, wonder if orb inherits memories or only the outer form.
Great music, and heard pink blood once before, suits the smooth pacing well.
Not quite what i expected, aww so no more wolfy? Now we're following this transforming god orb.

First episode in and we're already balls deep in the feels although we do not even know of the nameless boy's actual name, his past or how he used to interact with his tribesmen, his ambition and dream that he has shared this far with the orb really humanized his character. Even though he eventually dies... A wonderful introduction to the orb and this wintery first ep.

From this ep, we know that the orb is capable of perfectly transforming into an object, but to be a living being, it must experience stimulation.

As I re-watched this first episode for the 5th time, I was thinking, it would be interesting if there were an offshoot series covering the boy's back story.
How he wound up living in the arctic, who his family were, etc.
It's been said that the houses are hulls of boats, so I was thinking that perhaps his clan were sea-faring folks who experienced some sort of shipwreck and had to make temporary home in this icy region, while the stronger folks set out to the south to look for more temperate land. That's just my hunch. But I think it would be interesting of Oima-sama covered the early years of the main character.

Oh and everyone calls him the nameless boy, but I'm sure he had a name. It's just that we don't know it. I refer to him as the Boy Whose Name We Do Not Know.

Sadly too obvious that the boy wouldn't make it :(

But that's beside the point. It didn't take away from the impressive presentation and the impact of the episode. This feels like something special. Good shit fr.
Man all that build up and he ended up like that was about to lose my shit.
Been so long since I liked a character in short 20mins, such a shame.

So I'm not a sculptor or anything, but trying to tune the emotional impact of a story is kind of like adding fine details to a sculpture, that people may not even consciously take note of, slowly and carefully chipping away at the stone.

Well, this show is more like a that rocket powered hammer from Fallout 4, that has wires attached to it, to do bonus electric damage on contact.
I had the first episode spoiled for me, but even if it wasn't, the guy was shouting "please like me, I'll die in 20 minutes". :/

Well this was intense and....melancholic.

The orb concept is interesting.

There's not much to say just that the episode left me feeling sad that's all.

Overall, a great first episode, pulled me right from the first minute, that's what I look for in first episodes. 5/5.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.
