| I've reached all the way to level 8, the absolute deepest of the iceberg. The bottom of the barrel. Exploring through the depths of the Avant Garde pool has made me discover the weirdest of the weird. The titles in level 8 are much more obscure than the likes of creepy bizarre stuff like Utsu Musume Sayuri, Belladonna, Shoujo Tsubaki, Shitcom or Nami. I've recently finished watching Flying Luna Clipper this past weekend. As weird as it is, I honestly enjoyed watching that one. :P That's one title from level 8 that I would want more people to see. :'D I've also watched Visions of Frank a few years ago. Not as weird as Utsu Musume Sayuri, but Visions of Frank was still somewhat boggling yet a treat for the eyes. |

| Generally I'm watching stuff on level 4 and 5, but I've gone as low as 6 (Fumiko's Confession) and 7 (Belladona). I really didn't like Belladona, though. A lot of level 7 seems to be bad stuff to be honest. Level 8 seems to be more abstract stuff. I watched Animal Dance right now to see what it was like. It was entertaining. Funny in the random comedy way. There was a goat jumpscare. There was no cheap shocks, so that's good. I might watch more of these avant garde music videos if they are like this. I've noticed that I can enjoy artsy stuff without thinking that it's deep. It's just fun sometimes. |

I don't think this iceberg is a particularly good indication of obscurity near the lower echelon, since it is biased towards short films of varying obscurities. | I've passed the bottom; I've seen many things. Just look at my dropped list. You end up going so far down that you just keep seeing ridiculous obscure education OVAs that are probably not worth the money if you do (somehow) find them on Amazon. That kind of life is fun though, seriously. Never would have guessed anime can go so deep. Level 4-5 looks kinda crazy though, most of them should be higher up. Noticed that people are confusing Acchi Kocchi with Acchi wa Kocchi. These are two different entities, the former being a standard TV series, and the other being "lost media" until recently. The content of the latter is kinda wild, to say the least. Would recommend it to those who want an obscure title on their list. Only reason why the latter had the name of the former was because of the lack of info around it when it was in the database before all the footage was found. Oh boy, that's really tricky for me because I watched mainstream, borderline mainstream, non-mainstream but well-known in the anime circle, niche anime that only few people have heard of. You've also got classic retro anime which for me I don't know which tier that fit in like for example I'm watching Sonic Soldier Borgman on Youtube, I bet only a few of you know what this anime is: If you don't know what that is beside the MAL database, go watch this documentary video that explain the history of it: The other day, I've just finished watching Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned on Youtube, and you have to be a Marvel comic nerd or a complete anime nerd to know what this is: Again, if you don't know what that is: Also, I just finished watching Call me Tonight on Sunday because of this video: Although I don't watch every anime, I learned about random obscure anime from Youtube like for example, there are anime that pre-date the moe boom like this OVA from the 80's: I wouldn't have learned about Cosmo Police Justy if I didn't stumble upon and watch this video that talked in-depth about it: I would watch video that talk about random obscure anime that only maybe a few historically anime fans maybe aware about: So when you asked me what and how knee-deep am I in the anime iceberg, I can't give a specific answer. But I'm that knee deep in anime particularly when it comes to older obscure retro anime that has been forgotten by time. |
