What?! Such an awesome episode, and it even hadn't his discussion here?! O_o

Anyway, really an incredible episode. It has similar themes and situations from Perfect Blue, another masterpiece of Kon, like double personality and illusions.

I'd never thought that the teacher of the young boy from the previous episode was actually a prostitute with a double personnality disorder. And it's really a good thing that the episode focus on a secondary character from the previous to reveal her secret.
Nice idea, and it really create surprises. She really looked like a normal person in the previous episode and now we have another perspective that shows she isn't really a normal person.

Apparently the shounen bat has a good influence on his victims.
Now I wonder more than ever, what are his real intents?

Great episode.

So Yuuichi's tutor is a hooker with two personalities? Did not see that coming. I just expected her to be a driving force in Yuuichi's motivation to reveal Shounen Bat, nothing more. And this is getting more surreal by the second. I like.

zomg @the beginning of this episode
with the fat guy who was talking to his figures after the intercourse

a double personality seems to be very bitter
but Shounen bat came to the rescue,I begin to like his short attacks ;)

At first I had no idea what was happening, then "wut?" the home tutor is actually a call girl of sorts?
It didn't occur to me that she had a multiple personality disorder till the little hints started piling up.

That was really good. That disorder is scary indeed, having two personalities and not knowing about what your ''other'' side does.

Good episode, awesome.

The whole idea of the using the answering machine to communicate between the two personalities was a really neat idea. Highly enjoyed this episode, so glad I decided to pick this series back up.

I agree with BurntLettuce in that it was really great way of the two personalities to interact via answer machine, I thought that was a very great idea. It was definitely a creepy episode, and nice that they concentrated on a secondary character, but also that not everybody is as normal as they look ;)

its begs the question thought, what are lil'sluggers real intentions, his attacks seem to be helping his victims.

This was great psychological horror right there.
Shonen Bat's function seems to be reducing the pressure of these people even if his measures to achieve this are quite extreme.

I agree. I feel really sorry for Harumi.

So... little slugger sets people free who have problems and he appears to be young even though I think he has a stubble... no clue...

haha; it took me awhile to understand the phone call communication but yeah it was a great touch.

Phenomenal episode, which felt like the second half of Perfect Blue in pacing and content. Mitsuishi Kotono knocked that role out of the park (whoops, bad expression to use for this show).

I don't think he had any good intentions when he hit the journalist and Tsukiko. =p I think its just a coincidence to be honest.

Anyways, good episode, a huge step up from the first 2. :)

I can't really see the shounen bat as a bad guy... and I also doubt he's been caught.

Yeah, this really made a good episode great. It's a brilliant idea on the story maker's part, which effectively creates a sense of mystery, conflict and the distinction of her personalities causing her to have a double life without her "main" personality knowing about the others' actions.

Very nice ep.
But could anybody tell me if Bat Shounen attacked the boy who looks like him?
I knew they said it in the tv, but it wasn´t in the 2nd ep right?

I've watched this episode, and boy was it strange. I'm sorry, but though this may be a serious show, this episode cracked me up because she was a school teacher by day and a hooker by night, and at the end, she put too much make up. Really good episode.

It would be better to have said this after ep 1 but watching this now in 2014, wayy after all the new advancements in technology have been set, is really something. In ep 1 they showed how everyone was glued to their phones and using them for different purposes, many times for shady purposes. It's kind of like the beginning of Serial Experiments Lain and I think I made a similar comment there.

This was an incredible episode. Kon's style really shows and Perfect Blue easily comes to mind. The way he shows the characters is so realistic and he tells the story in a masterful way without throwing in tropes or pandering to his audience. He is very much missed. RIP

Well, from my point of view i think that in episode 2, when Ichi had that kind of allucination and the Shounen Bat attacked him, the last part was real, he real got attacked. He begins to allucinate in his bed and finishes at the street, maybe he got away from home and got attacked.

But man, this episode was some serious shit. My brain just got raped.

Best episode so far, I love how we are starting to see how Shounen Bat 'chooses' his victims. Also starting to wonder if there's a theme with mental health surrounding the different characters in this anime..

That was a really intense episode. Honestly, it was extremely selfish of Harumi to get engaged without telling her partner that she had D.I.D. I wonder how she got it, anyway. People with D.I.D. have usually gone through some traumatic experience in the past.
It seems like only two of the victims didn't "need" to be hit. Ushiyama and the reporter guy. They were the only ones who didn't benefit from it.
Anyway, I'm worried that Maria isn't really gone, though I suppose an incident like that could get rid of her.

Ok so it seems Shonen Bat is attacking people with mental illnesses. The mangaka has psychosis brought on by schizoprhenia (paranoid sub-type), the elementary kid seems to have either dependent personality disorder or delusions of grandeur/delusional disorder (thinking more so these ones over D.P.D.), and this women now has Dissociative Identity Disorder (a.k.a. Multiple Personality Disorder). As a mental health counselor this show is very interesting to me.

Those 3 seemed to be the main victims they are focusing on; however then that leaves the reporter (possible financial/legal ties to a psychological distress) from the first episode and the fat kid who was being bullied (which this can cause mental distress as well). These are the only two I'm unsure of even though they do have things in their lives that can effect their mental well being. Those things are just not psychological disorders per-say, but more so factors that tie into psychological maladjustment.

Ah- !! This explains the opening now with everyone laughing even with their backgrounds showing death and disaster (Hospital Rooftop without shoes on, Falling, Poverty, Drowning). Shounen Bat is hurting them to free them of their delusions?

And another thing I liked was the early on foreshadowing of crows picking at the trash bags that showed up later on in a big scene showing Chono wanting to free herself after putting Maria's clothing in the bags.

I've already said it but I'll say it again- this show is cool as shit.

EDIT: Anyone have an idea of how to interpret the old man's drawing of a butterfly this time? Last 2 episodes were easy guesses with Tsukiko's hospital room number and Yuichi's name being shortened to Ichi but I'm pretty confused here now since a butterfly is vague.

For some reason, the victims look relieved after being hit by Shonen Bat.
