It was a predictable out come in my opinion. I went into that episode thinking that ippo would lose :/. The fight was still very thrilling!

That last heartshot was INTENSE.

Figured he would lose cause he obviously couldn't become champ on the first try...but Ippo gave one hell of a good fight.

Like how dramatic Coach throwing in the towel right as Ippo fell was, reminded me of some of the dramatic moments in Ashita no Joe.

Best fight so far. Reminded me of the Sendo fight, but with Ippo on the other end. All in all one of the most epic anime eps I've ever seen. Next ep seems like it'll bring on all the feels

This is so sad. Ippo lost but still this counts as the best match Ippo has played so far. What an intense fight. I was kinda hoping he will make a comeback and win at the end but he was clearly fighting out of pure instincts. I wonder how will he cope from this...

shitty episodes, the last few episodes so clearly build up for him to lose, so many dead flags... and he loses from the lack of the thing he won the rest of he's fight off, what makes me think it was shitty.

All the fighting spirit, and always going forward, and here he lose to him self thinking and having no fighting spirit in the match, what makes it so shitty.. if he had lost because the other one was tuffer and better, even when he had all he's fighting spirit, then it woud had bin a good epsiodes, but he loses to him self, not he's opponent, and thats just crappy.

I knew he woud lose at some point, and i knew severel episodes ago he woud lose to Date, it was so clearly setup that he shoud lose to him... but lose to lack of confident and fighting spirit, the one thing that always bin he's trade mark, that was just shitty writing.

Why coudent he just lose because the other one was more skilled, exsperient, and had more training, no had to lose because of lack of he's own trademark... phh pisses me off, to the point i consider dropping the show.
Those last few episodes dropped the show from a 8 to a 6.

And all those comment about, it was the best fight, dint you people see the fight with Vorg it was 10 times better
Sorry just piss me off he loses because he self destruct. All the damage he took when he doubtet him self did he lost.
Lost to the physological part of the match, why it was clear he woud lose severel episodes ago when he meet Date. And the following episodes, with lack of show of training, new skills and so, clearly showed the writers was going to let him lose the match.
Im sure if i continue watching, that now i see him train back up after a crises he has to owercome from the lost, and he then regain he's confidence he lost and so on, until he challenge again, and this time he learn not to lose confident in him self or the other one is slightly damage after the fight and he then will win. Its so clearly to see thats what the writers wanted from this first fight with Date.

Just why coudent the writers let him win a fight that was setup by the writing for him to lose, and lose a fight that was setup for him to win, see that woud had be good writing and surprising.

I am Happy that Ippo finally lost one of his matches. Not because I hate him or anything. But because the credibility of the story would be far off, if the main character is a super human wo succeeds at everything he does or touches.

holy fuck he actually lost, that fight was pretty incredible and the way they fool you out into think ippo was gonna make a comeback with the 2nd op playing is genius, you get a huge ooooh shit feeling when the opening abruptly stops

+1. exactly how I felt. Even if you could guess he was gonna lose you would get hopeful in that moment.

+2. That's exactly what happened to me. I guessed Ippo would lose, but for just a sec I was like "Oh wait, he's going to win!".

Absolutely brilliant surprise, and brilliant fight altogether. 6/5

Such a great combat. I always thought Date would win but it got me wondering since the match was switching so much on who was closest to knock his opponent out. But man, Ippo is still unexperienced (2 years career) and Date is a champion veteran, so that played a big role in the income. This result actually makes it better and more realistic.
Ippo has improved so much in the span of 2 years, he was basically a weak boy at the start of the anime but he learned fast and trained so hard. Well to be honest, he was quite strong already when he did beat Miyata in the training match (even when he got lucky with the chin hit), when he was just a newbie and Miyata was a very promising fighter and already quite developed for his age.
Ippo has already been very surprising and a premature gem fighter.

Dang! They really toyed with my expectations, even though I had a bad feeling Ippo might lose this one before, I was convinced at the end that he could pull through somehow! It was an epic fight either way and a loss was much needed to mix things up.

I was waiting for the moment Date would use the Heart Break Shot ever since the 1st Round ended and it finally showed up as the killing blow that signaled Ippo's first loss in his career...

It was a very grueling fight where the both of them could fall straight to the floor at any second and as much as I laud this as the best one yet, it was also the hardest match to watch because of how tough it was to see Ippo continue to fight on even though he was way past his limits.

On the bright side, his only loss was at the hands of the strongest Featherweight fighter in all of Japan and it was a narrow one so that says a lot about how formidable he really is. I hope that he'll take this experience as a way to keep on getting stronger.

when ippo finally lost, it didn't just happened out from the blue or in lame way, but in the most awesome fight 'till now and in the most impact way.

too bad he was fade out most of the match, the way he fight deserves him to fight with full aware in his next title match.

and of course let's hope he will only gain from the lost, and not going down with it.

This was the best fight so far taking into account the emotional weight it carried... Ippo has always succeeded somehow, but this time he had Date ahead of him, not a guy with super strength or super speed, just an experienced elite boxer with the presence of a giant and the aura of a champion.

What I really liked about this fight was how he lost by a paperthin margin, just like many of his adversaries before. He was Ippo until the very end, but he still lacked that little something needed to truly beat a champion. Courage and willpower he has always had plenty! But those alone cant bring him the belt.

If the rest of the series keeps up with this quality until the end, it might become one of my favorite TV shounens.

I'm kind of glad Ippo lost this, I'm sorry, but Date is the world champion and Ippo needs something to work towards, and I'm excited to see how he takes this loss and comes out on top.

THIS IS THE BEST EPISODE.
this shit brought tears to my eyes man, ippo's going in my fave characters for sure. insane fighting spirit. i had a feeling from the last episode that ippo was gonna lose but after that body shot, i almost thought ippo could turn around. regardless, i think a loss for ippo is good, the bounce back will be crazy.

Wow this episode was really good. I was actually on the edge of my seat, I didn’t know which way this was going to go!

In a way I’m glad that Ippo finally lost. I didn’t like the idea of him never losing a pro match throughout the whole anime. This makes it a lot more realistic and it’s a good but bitter enjoyment.

We didn’t need a miracle from Ippo this time. Just being able to keep going for as long as he did is a miracle!!
