I don’t wanna pass any judgement too quickly…but Ririka seems to be blackmailing Shima? Is their friendship just a facade? Makes a lot of sense now when Shima told Mitsumi that she might me the first real female friend.

nao and mika following mitsumi and shima was jokes, i didn't even recognize her until she said 'uncle' lmao, mitsumi looked cute in her hat.
some backtory from yuzuki, i like how makoto wasn't phased by the horror movie at all.
i don't understand how shima's friend is a model tho, she's arguebly the worst looking girl on the show.

Seeing the girls hangout together reminded me of my close friend group T-T I love seeing healthy female friendships in anime!

With Yuzuki opening up and Mika questioning her morals, the characters resonate with the viewers a lot with how relatable their thoughts and feelings are. I can't help but root for all the characters to be the best version of themselves.

Also, seeing how Mitsumi and Sousuke care for each other was so sweet! Their friendship is amazing.

With each passing episode, we grow to understand Mika and her character traits more. She's by far the most explored human character in the show. I love them all but what Mika's going through is very compelling. I can see an evident growth that is to be had. Compare episode one Mika to the current moment, she has been a highlight that I did not see coming!

Nao wearing men's clothes and a literal deep voice is unrecognizable from what we are used to, I like that they approach the context in an optimistic way when she tells Mitsumi to tell her friends that she was born as a man and then imply that she leads a life quite normal without being discriminated against in the phrase of work and that she will stay at a friend's house, nor can I not mention the fact that I support Mika to overcome her satisfaction problems with herself and trying to pretend for fear of what people think of her. In the end it seems that Ririka is going to be the bad guy in the story with what we have seen so far, it even makes me think that she is doing some kind of Blackmail or emotional blackmail to Shima for what happened 4 years ago implying that he invited her and that is why the controversy broke out that he started drinking at the age of 12.

  • It's sad but a good-looking stray cat is treated well and grow a good temper, and vice versa. Of course, it's a wrong idea to apply it to all the human. But every innate gift affects you directly or indirectly.
  • Also a good-looking person sometimes suffers from bad treatments. It may come from jealousy or extreme admiration.
  • There is a wrong tendency that boys' wild behaviors are overlooked in Japan, but it isn't applied for girls. Although Shima retired from the entertainment world, Ririka is still in the show business world and shadowed by the past. Probably, he triggered the incident and he is the only one who knows the truth of it. It would be also the reason why she has the mixed feelings for him.

We got to see a lot of good dynamics of the characters this episode. Mitsumi still being Mitsumi, helps Shima learn more about being a part of a family during their zoo visit.

We also Nao also giving 'Omika' some good pointers about valuing and caring for good friends even better.

And finally we see the looming gloom hidden in Shima's heart, sort of being forced to take penance of a past mistake he committed against his childhood friend.

Ah a shame that Mitsumi and Shima couldn't fully enjoy the zoo "date" due to the heat, but it was still went well overall. The matching keychains are cute. I certainly didn't expect the Mika and Nao combo, but I like how he's helping her and giving her advice on her insecurities. Wish I could have someone like that in my life. I'm glad Mika ended up going back to the sleepover after all.
I also did not expect Shima's past to be so dark...one, with his little brother who probably played a role in Shima not being so close to his parents, and two, with his childhood friend. I'm just guessing here due to the large age gap, but maybe his little brother is actually a stepbrother? Or I'm just overthinking it and his mother just decided to have another baby at a later age. And Ririka is guilt-tripping Shima into being with her at her beck and call due to - from the looks of it from the brief flashback shots and what Mika discovered while reading online articles - an underaged drinking scandal. She better not do anything to Mitsumi or I'm gonna throw hands.

Mika-chan, who saw all the other girls as rivals, now sees that these kids are her best friends. Not only does she have a shot at redemption, she may be the breakout character we all end up cheering for. All thanks to Nao-san and her super powered empathy.

Ririka though...Is there a chance for this girl? Or will she just drag others down into her whirlpool of bitterness and anger? I could do with less Ririka in my life.

It was really sweet how Mika decided to go back and they ended up having so much fun at the sleepover. However, I do feel really bad for Shima, that childhood "friend" of his is a real gaslighting, manipulative hoe.

Okay I'm warming up to Egashira now. I initially liked how honest she was but didn't like how she talked to Iwakura but now I'm liking her more, favorite character? Nope but I like how self-aware she is and knows she isn't perfect. I feel like she's the "straightman/woman" of the series kind of like how Shinpachi calls everyone in Gintama out on their BS.

I'm glad Egashira decided to go back and spend the night with the other girls. I'm also more interested in seeing more about Ririka. She doesn't seem interested in Shima romantically rather making him feel guilty or blaming him for something that happened in the past and making him protect her in exchange for what she endured. I'm really curious but I haven't started reading the manga yet.

The last quarter of this episode was so intense damn. While the girls were having their fun sleep over, Shima was caught by Ririka. So it seems she was caught in an underage drinking scandal which nearly ruined her career as a model, and it was Shima who invited her out that night. Now she's holding it over his head and won't let it go because it's the only way she has power over him. I think she likes him but is using her own toxic means of keeping him close. But man, the more we learn about Shima, the more interesting he gets. I'm sure there was more to that story, I wanna hear more from his perspective.

"...but the chance to make real friends doesn't come around too often in life."

Yup, having real and good friends is a blessing that not everyone can get. The moment when Mika decided to come back and join the girls' pajama party made me melt for her and feel that she's not a bad person after all. In fact, all of her behavior is understandable, why she does this and that. She was also the most sensitive and sensible of the four of them. It's nice to see that she's opening up to them more and getting Omitsu, Yuzuki, and Makoto as her best friends ♡

And Nao-chan? She is a cool and lovely person. I admire her. After all, wasn't it hinted since the early episodes? In the train scene. Although it's not too obvious but it leads to it.

Damn, the Riruka part was really saddening. So shima and Riruka are childhood friends and because of shima she got her name dragged in the mud for 'drinking in 6th grade' thing. That's why he doesn't talk about his acting thing, he probably left the industry after that and is now held accountable for Riruka's mess. Riruka is kind of victim but I don't believe it makes her entitled to control shima to such extent. But perhaps I should wait to get the full story before saying anything.

Mika and Nao-chan is a duo I never thought I needed, Nao-chan is so precious. That was a fantastic episode! We're finally getting a glimpse into Shimasuke's past and a little of Nao-chan too, while we got more development for the lowkey main character of the show, Mika.

Damn, Shimasuke's definitely being guilt trip, whatever that hangout was probably damaged their reputation. Ah! Wait, Mika was reading stories about Ririka being caught drinking in grade school and being canceled and all that, it probably stemmed from that incident with Shimasuke.

People being troubled around Mitsumi, while she's just vibing, hope the others catch that vibe as well. Really looking forward to the next episode!

The visit to the Zoo with Shima and Mitsumi was very cute and wholesome, although the hot and humid weather did cut their visit short, sadly. Still, both of them had a really good time and they promised that they will visit the zoo again in the future. It was pretty interesting to see Mika tailing the pair from afar, who was later joined by Nao in disguise, which led to one of many nice scenes involving the pair as well.

Speaking of which, this episode did confirm that Nao used to be biologically male before transitioning into a female. While the whole subject itself can indeed be contentious depending on what medium uses this, I think that Nao has been a great character so far in this series, with her many interactions with Mitsumi and others feeling very natural and amusing, while making sure that none of it feels forced whatsoever. This makes me like this series even more! =)

However, the episode did turn down a drama-filled path towards the end when Shima met up with Ririka, where she seems to be holding one hell of a grudge with him. The episode did shed a bit more light into her past, although the way that she's guilt tripping Shima while showing jealousy and envy, as well as seeing him say sorry to her about it, doesn't paint her in a good light. Hopefully the later episodes will showcase more in detail into the past of Shima and, maybe, see some closure for Ririka, as she's doing a good job in making viewers dislike her.

so, i love that there is a lgbt+ character. I love her, the character is awesome, but there are some problems. before the pajama party, she says to Mitsumi that "Don't forget to tell them your aunt is biologically male". I see where this comes from (guessing), and this is just discrimination. The far right politics just need to have this labels, right? I hate it. Documents need your biological gender, and birth name. Why? Why can't people just officially be called what they want to? Why is there need to know other's biological sex when it's none of their business? I get it that "omg it is Japan", but i have had enough of this, this kind of wording is conniving with established patterns ruling society that just are unfair.

Anyways. Mitsumi and Shima are so cute.
Mhm that part made me a bit sad, on one hand it's nice that she's comfortable enough to not feel ashamed if people find out, but also it was like she felt obligated to disclose this information.

Other than that it was another really great episode :) Just kinda worried for Shima. What happened to Ririka, and does Shima only stay in contact with her out of guilt? I hope it will be explained in the last 4 episodes.

We need more info, but she is basically blackmailing him through guilt. They look to be young when the "scandal" took place.
Its going to barrel downhill into a squared love spat, with some online flaming, isn't it?

"LGBT propaganda" some of you said I see. You haven't watched many anime I guess. Gender-bender was a thing in this sub-culture (mostly because of fetishes and other cultural reasons) way before the west made it to have a political overtone over there. To put it bluntly the japanese don't give a shit about LGBT in hte sense you mean.
She is just an interesting quirky character, definitely wasn't put there for "representation".

I'm sorry but nao chan is clearly written as a trans character, and is done really well. well you're generally right that most lgbt+ anime characters are more there for a fetish aspect, especially with "gender bend" characters, it's just outright offensive to call a transgender character "gender bent".

LOVED this episode! (If I had a nickel for every time there was positive trans rep in episode 8 of an anime...I'd have two nickels which isn't much but it still makes me happy!)

Nao-chan's gender identity was hinted at early on in the series with subtle hints sprinkled throughout and so the more obvious drop today was not something that came by surprise. I love that we're getting bits and pieces of Nao-chan's backstory since it sheds light on her experience in a way that isn't overbearing. It's clearly shown she experienced trouble back in high school, which reminded me of the backstory we got for Shou in Stars Align (another great anime with wonderful trans and nonbinary rep!). While it would be nice to learn more about her past, who she is now is most important, and seeing that she is able to live her life on her own terms as a adult is so rewarding (much like Shou).

The zoo portion of the episode was adorable. So was the slumber party. I feel worried for Shima since we keep getting bits and pieces of angst about his home life/past. Very interested to see how things pan out!

I get the feeling Shima's parents got divorced, and the younger brother is his half brother. Or his parents pushed Shima into acting instead of being loving when he was a kid, which is why he lives alone and does not see his brother often.
And the parents (or parent if he is a half-brother) are now having a redo with a new child.

Mika is discovering her self & her insecurities even more which has been one of the highlights of this show for me so far

Looks like the visit to the zoo was very sweet, well pandas are cute after all but it seems like Mitsumi is as well. We got to see a bit more into Shima's past with his little brother and later on a mysterious scandal surrounding his childhood friend. Things must be quite complicated for him. On the other side, Mika still feels confilcted about him and his relationship with Mitsumi who she sees now in different eyes. Good on Nao for being that observant.

Why would we do that? As I said she is a quirky and interesting character, I have found her sympathetic from the begining. That she has turned out to be a male biologically doesn't change that just gives a bit of a spice to it. Anime likes to play with genders, there is nothing new to it.

Skip to loafer Mondays lets go! Wow a really good episode as usual. Shima being so considerate of Mitsumi’s nerves and the temperature at the zoo was really sweet. I really do feel bad for Mika tho. How’s she’s behaving is really not healthy at all. It’s good she’s starting to realise it, but she’s gotta let go of these insecurities. Nao sees a lot of herself in Mika so that could be a nice healthy mentorship going forward.

The Shima and Ririka stuff looks really toxic and manipulative. Was kinda hard to watch her guilt trip him like that
Nao is also mysterious, I love that we're kinda taking a deeper dive into each character's past, dramas and insecurities. It makes the show so much more interesting.

Also, I agree with Ririka being manipulative, the natural thing to do is cut ties with such a person but I hope we see Ririka improve as a person, as well as her and Shima's relationship. (tho I'm rooting for Shima and Mitsumi to get together since she's such a good influence on everyone lol)

One thing im nervous about is just how much drama there's gonna be. We already had the whole Shima-Mitsumi friend issue the other episode, then we're gonna most likely have Nao's backstory and this childhood friend issue as well. Really dont want the SOL aspect to go away for that long. They also keep bringing up ex-fatgirls past issues and her obsession with Shima, so I'm really hoping she doesnt do anything and cause any damage to her friendship with Mitsumi.
