I agree they should stop genocide, but I still dislike this season and the previous.

I hate it when anime/manga that I enjoyed ends, especially when there could be much longer plot and when I love main heroine :P

The episode was interesting, the fact that they start to hate each other but they eventually manage to talk. It was an interesting theme but the directing was awefull, the still shots of trees took me out of the story so many times.

And I thought earlier Gabi was bad. Can't believe people like this Magath dude exist. This mf is worse than Gabi. He is talking about "Pain of 2000 years". Bruh, what "Pain" have YOU suffered? Not your people of 2000 years ago, not you great grandfather or your grandmother. No. What have YOU suffered? All you are doing is inflicting pain upon others. And the ones whom you are talking to are not even half your age and have seen their families, friends, entire fucking villages get slaughtered right in front of them. And then this guy talks about "Pain of 2000 years". Bruh, kids like Gabi and Falco are 100× better than this guy.

The opening with the credits rolling and Hange talking about who are scouts with the background ost was so cinematic

"We haven't had a chance to talk this through"
one of the most important themes which is why marco’s death is repeatedly referenced throughout the story. now that the walls have come down, which represented barriers to class/understanding/‘freedom’, the characters begin to overcome their own barriers thru mutual understanding ...this was basically this episode in the nutshell

annie is the one to confront mikasa because they parallel each other -both understand what it means for one person who hold huge value in your life. it calls back to their tension in s1 but this time talking instead of fighting - highlighting their growth as the ‘lost girls’

aot consistently critiques the ideas presented by characters through other people in-universe, makes it feel extremely grounded & realistic

the voice acting was amazing as always(even when they didn't show Jean's expression,we still understood what he was feeling at the moment because of the voice acting)
One of the best-directed dialogue episode of Aot,the episode had very strong character drawings, phenomenal osts as always and the background art was kino, loved the episode
Overall, one of my fav ep in all of aot anime

This episode was the perfect example of how fucked up peoples mindset can be. Talking about the pain from 2000 years, even if you've never experienced it yourself. Especially Magath still only sees everyone as the "island devils" which have to be eradicated from earth....

Like Marco said with his last word. They never had a chance to talk this through. Until now. Hearing both sides was more than interesting. Annie made a good point about Mikasa. I personally also don't believe Eren can be stopped by talking to him. So what other choice do they have then?

I was surprised by Yelena. With such a deep desire for Zekes plan, I didn't expect her to be Marleyan. She also made a good point. None of the present persons are innocent. They all have their crosses to bear with what they did in the past. Nonetheless is this the best opportunity to finally break the seemingly never ending cycle of hatred.

When Reiner was talking about how he felt guilty after being responsible for Marcos death, lots of emotions came up in Jean, even if I looked brutal how he was smashing into Reiners face. And the 2 youngest stopped the situation immediately. Gabi and Falco experienced both sides, so they could be the key to put an end to all of it. Magath definitely was shocked when he saw Gabis tears. It's wishful thinking, but maybe this was able to change his view on the whole situation.

Jean isn't a bad guy by any mean and when he tried to wake up Reiner or the scene after in the cart where he apologized to Gabi, showed it even more. I really hope all of them can and will work together.

Overall even without any action a very intense episode which tackled a lot of topics people have to deal everyday IRL.

The harbor being conquered by the Yeagerists is a big problem and they also don't exactly know where Eren is heading. With only 3 episodes left I have no clue where this will end up.

Episode 9 Review:
worst episode in all of AOT,
everything other jean and yelena was just bad , like wtf you being all good with people who are you arc enemies!?
i understand why they team up but it shouldnt be this friendly ,thats just lazy writing

and also , FUCK YOU ANNIE

Reiner getting rekt by jean was great and feel good I needed very much
hange is still annoying here
maggath is also ignorant and trash (which is totally understandable considering where they come from and their brainwashing) but things like this are the reason why paradis gang being so friendly and not more angry with em bad writing

Jean my man already had a good dream and future, and then he remembered, he still a member of a survey corps; when their commander called them to fight, stopped the genocide, he certainly couldn't just stay with empty handed.

Ah, an orientation night for a former enemy to brainstorming over the next course of actions. Its sure not goin well at the first sight. Lots of tension hanging, and the general sure rubbed more salt into the wounds than ever. But remembered when everyone had their sins, its about time to move forward and do what they can, for a time being. Stop Eren, talked things through, and when its failed, time to kill each other again...

Hopefully Eren can be persuade. Because if not, Hange usual funny remarks will be a waste here. And i am not talking about Levi. Poor little captain should've been dead for real rather than hearing all that Jean noises xd.

Three more!

The campfire scene is some of the calmest yet tensest parts of the manga, post-rumbling. And wow does it convey the same atmosphere. When the battle shifts from physical to verbal and when the emotions reach a boiling point, Jean expresses his suppressed feelings in full force towards Reiner. Out of the remaining original cast, he's the one that almost decided to just stay a yeagerist and live the life he had always wanted since before joining the survey corps.

Gabi has come a long way, she's the first here to ask for genuine forgiveness and begged for help, even before commander Magath took any action whatsoever. The true solution to all these one-sided hatreds is for one to be open-minded and see through all the perspectives and realize the correct state of conflict. Well done.

oops this is me now finishing s4p2 after what? 4 months? awkward

but this was a very jean-centric episode and i love to see it! my guy has grown up now, i love seeing him in his leadership role, and he has become so mature and understanding rather than the hothead he used to be - talk about growth!

the campfire scenes were lovely - marco's power still stands! see the power of simple communication, heals a lot of wounds. lol @ yelena trying to air everyone's dirty laundry and instead it strengthens their resolve and helps them all understand each other's viewpoints

(and levi there with his rumpled shirt and messy hair my poor baby :( my number one guy)

also i love love hange in s4, the way they are trying to manage the weight of their role and expectations and everyone who came before them. and i love their conflict about what eren is doing, because on one hand he is doing it to save all of them, but on the other it is something completely horrific he is doing. you can understand both sides (agreeing is another matter lol)

speaking of eren, i wonder where he is... though with that massive new titan body, he can't have got that far lol

There's so many ways in which a good guy/bad guy (although there are no good or bad guys in AOT) team up could go wrong in terms of making it believable. Here, I think it is fully understandable and makes sense. I like how you'd expect there to be much tension, and while there is, it's not as much as you'd think it'd be. High tension would be no one speaking, but everyone has spoken up while huddled around this campfire. They let it all out on each other, but they all know that they need each other to save the world.

Dammit I know Hange is doing the right
thing by trying to stop Eren,
but a part of me wants to see Eren
and the Yeagerists succeed!
Floch reminds me of Erwin, but still
with less experience.
I really didn't expect Jean to hold
that much resentment over Marco's death.
I get that he was a comrade, but he really
went at it with Reiner.

What in the hell makes them think their dead comrades would agree to join in with their tormentors and save the outside world over their Island? This kind of reasoning leave me dumbfounded.

Hange's the worst. I mean she really sucks as an Eldian born and raised on the Island. She was a terrible leader for 4 years who lost the trust of her subordinates because she couldn't come up with any plan, and know she's basically leading the charge against them (she acknowledges it in the first scene). Good for the outside world though. I know where my heart lies.
Seriously, Levi should've accepted becoming leader, he has more wits even in that state he's in.

That would be the most stupid thing ever.
Nah, the overall story would be much better if ex-scouts did a nice split where some joined marleyans and other joined yeagerists. Like look at Levi, he wants monke to bite the dust so bad but he doesn't give a fuck about working with person responsible of killing his beloved squad. It also sucks that Jean is literally the only paradian cringevenger member that had some inner thoughts about saving people from outside the walls. Connie seems to give zero fucks about Pieck gasing his entire village, everything beyond chapter 123 is just bullshit and poor story telling. Especially the last 3 chapters that took bad writing into next level.
Agreed, the story writers got lazy! How easy the team switched up on Eren.

Really wondering, who is the person looking at Annie through the window at Shiganshina headquarters? Keith? I guess.
Begin. I can't wait.
Who's that? Jean? Such a beautiful prospect. The black haired girl in Jean's perspective is Mikasa lol
Even now, Jean still makes me laugh
OMG Jean is me now.
After all, it was Hanji who was the first to say it. This is wrong. OMG Hanji she's great.
Jean has the point but Yes! I'm with Hanji now. And I'm sure there will be many people who share the same opinion as me and Hanji.
I still think this is not what Eren want, but the green-eyed monster. Eren is just being manipulated.
Damn... Hanji's so deep thought, she poured her heart out.
Very touching
I was almost in tears when I saw Marco, even though he wasn't even wearing a survey corps cloak or military police cloak.
Hope we will have an emotional ep of reunion.
I really want the cloak Annie wears to be the survey corps cloak.
Wow Magath, we actually have pretty solid boundaries of prejudice.
Interesting. Because Magath is the only one who isn't Eldian. He has his opinion. It's very complicated. And it's war.
Look at Reiner, Gabi, Falco. I mean, their faces tell everything.
Annie's "Sorete" really woke me up lol very long time since 'Lost Girls'
No, Annie, no. Eren is not a bad guy.
Annie, back then, Annie's goal was to kidnap Eren, not kill Eren?
Well, this fight is not what I expected but let's go! Annie provokes Mikasa and Mikasa gets angry easily.
Hanji she saved the day lol
I wanted the story to be as detailed as possible.
Annie should tie her hair up. That way she will look cooler.
Damn, Yelena. Wow.
Information about Hanji's stew. Wow.
No time for conviction, Yelena, she's dangerous.
Damn, Yelena? Wow her mouth is the rival of Floch's Mouth. It's upsetting when all hatred is mentioned in this way.
Even the show itself did not dare to show the characters' faces, instead the scenes of trees.
Marco... even now Marco still indirectly helps them to erase their hatred.
I think Jean needs to hit Reiner. Reiner wanted it as well. This is to clear things up.
Gabi as well. It's nesessary.
Magath. say something.
Damn, Gabi, you embarrass Annie.
Jean, let's adopt Gabi lol
Yea you guys pissed Levi off.
That's Jean I like.
So sweet. Please don't die everyone. Only time and love heal the wounds of the heart.
Floch, why is he so fast. All those gears and weapons?

I still think Eren is doing the right thing. Hange & Co. are just being stupid at this point. Genocide is not the answer, but the world already has its response, and it's genocide as well. Stop Eren, and then what? Prolong the inevitable for a few years or decades, or hundred years? It will never end until one side is annihilated. They should be glad that Eren was willing to shoulder the burden of genocide. They should sit back and enjoy everything his sacrifice has provided for them.
Too bad Sasha isn't around to enjoy Hange's stew.

it reinforces the main historic conflict and higlights it in a small conversation between a few people. tey are having the same hate and arguments their countries have had for thousands of years and no matter what they do they will continue to fight over something that happened ages ago untill one of them is wiped out. it just points out why eren and zeke were right in choosing to eliminate one side for good otherwise it will be endless conflict for the rest of time

While this is where the story began to go downhill for me, I'll admit it's hitting a bit different in anime form. The Alliance's mutual goals feel more believable and the voice acting - particularly Jean's - really brought out the best of this scene. Heaviest moment was seeing Gabi sitting there, listening to Jean & Magath echoing the same tired cycle that she only recently snapped out of. She's really shaping up to be the MVP here and it's her development that is perhaps the only common ground between the two factions at this point.

That said, I still stand at attention when the Great Floch asserts his will to power.

Phenomenal episode.
It was great to see all these different people with different mindsets and goals just talk to each other.

"We haven't had a chance to talk this through" - such an important message to everyone.
If we don't talk to each other and try to understand each other the cycle of hatred will never stop.

I still have faith in Eren though, there's gotta be more than just the mass genocide.

One of the show's absolute best episodes for sure, and one that very strongly props up the show's core themes relating to cycles of hatred and violence. Wild to think that this show started as a solid series that didn't quite live up to the hype, but evolved into a magnificent one that absolutely does.

I like this kind of scenario where all two sets of parties have different mindsets and perspectives and have no choice but to join forces because they don't want genocide. It's something the group of Marleyans should appreciate here because if Armin and Co. were selfish, they would go along with Eren's plan. After all, they're the ones who will be inviolable anyway.

In the end, Mikasa and the others couldn't answer straight about killing Eren. I don't know who will though, but somebody's got to do it if Eren doesn't change his goal.

She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did!
