I read the manga (all Chapters) so it was as predicted - all this episode for flashbacks BUT I enjoyed it. Beautifully done! These young versions actually look better (more sweet / cute) as in manga :) That is surprising.

Pretty good episode. The trio were so adorable when they were kids, but of course knowing this author, they couldn't have a happy ending.
It was obvious Louis was going to die since the beginning of the episode, but the execution was great and it fulfilled its purpose as a backstory pretty well. Similar to the last episode, the music really elevated the intensity of the scenes so huge props to the staff for that.

Noe's backstory revealed!

What a traumatic story between him and Louis, and revealing a bit about the curse. Very intriguing, glad I continued watching it!

Hell, even though Funimation put the warning alert, I still didn't expect those things. It was really brutal, and I finally get why Noe was really angry. I got chill on some scenes, this is really well done.

Great episode, probably my favorite so far

What makes this episode great is that they are capable of going from funny/cute to dark/serious and then back and forth so smoothly. Really loved how the episode was directed. Also, can't go without mentioning the great VA work this episode. Kayano and Shimabukuro as Domi and Louis was excellent and obviously Ishida is a legend and casting him as Sensei is also an excellent choice.

My least favorite part was when Vanitas showed up at the end. I've come to the conclusion that he's my least favorite character.
Well thats a surprise. Tbh Noe story is like a happy fairy tale compared to what vanitas has gone through...(Even though his whole isnt revealed) BUt yeah i can get why someone would hate his character(He hates himself so yeah viewers can hate him too)

I was not ready to see Louis. I really like him, and it hurts to see him die a second time.

Something about Louis reminds me of Lelouch. lol

The charlatan isn't that cool-looking here. I wish it was properly animated instead of just being a single image getting warped. I feel like it should look almost air-like, as though you might unwillingly breathe it in, and let it invade and destroy you from the inside.

Vanitas out there busting a nut with Jeanne while Noé was forced to remember the worst moments of his life.

Now seriously, this episode was pretty damn good. No wonder why Louis acted so angsty every time Noé had a flashback... poor kid. Art direction was simply stunning, by the way.

Why chibi is annoying? Especially in this episode because they are just children. I am just curious because some people think like this while watching Vanitas no Carte (The author really like to draw chibi especially in comedy part). On the other hand, I just think it's cute.

You know, it's just a question of feeling. It's not because Vanitas may have a sadder backstory that we should like him more (and it has nothing to do about him hating himself).

Damn Noe had a rough backstory. It was pretty obvious how it would play out but I think the execution was handled pretty well.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

This episode was so sad! ): I felt very bad for Louis. To die just like that... I couldn't help but think that his grandfather could've done something, being the most powerful vampire in the vampire world, and chose not to do anything. He just killed his own grandson very coldly. That was too sad. It kind of left the episode with a bad taste afterwards.

Why chibi is annoying? Especially in this episode because they are just children. I am just curious because some people think like this while watching Vanitas no Carte (The author really like to draw chibi especially in comedy part). On the other hand, I just think it's cute.

Occasional chibi is nice and mostly cute but this episode had too much. We had to witness chibi faces every 3 seconds in the first half and that can get quite annoying. It also ruins the seriousness of the ongoing story a bit.

I would say that it actually balances the episode for the most part considering they didnt wanted it to be emotional more then necessary and turn moe...but yeah they can be annoying from time to time

I see, it seems we just perceive it differently. I think it's because I often see children in anime or manga look like chibi so I don't think it's out of place or annoying. Maybe I am just used to it lol

Intense episode. It was terrifying to see Louis' death come straight clean right in front of Noe. I'm really curious if that sensei will be a villain or not. His face was very creepy when he killed Louis. I mistakenly thought he was the charlatan.

Goddamn, Bones did an amazing job with Noe's backstory. Domi, Louis and Noe were so adorable as kids. Fuck you Charlatan. Vanitas was really out there getting the succ before he saved Noe who was reliving the worst moments of his life. Really looking forward to the next episode!

Pretty good episode. Backstory was compelling enough. They didn't hold back on the brutality with the beheadings. No censorship I could notice, but they did have the violence warning for that reason. Anyway this gives context to some of the flashback 5 second scenes we've had up till now.

well that warning was a red flag quite jarring going from fluff to 100 but this was a really well done episode how quickly things happened it caught me off guard also whoever voiced that scream needs a rise give me a good scare listening to it with noise canceling headphones geez

they had a rough childhood legit was confused when i first saw Domi because i thought she was just a tomboy it turns out it was Louis from the first flashbacks and uh..this explains a lot

Wow, Domi's character definitely developed over time. Seeing her as a a child and then in current day is very interesting.

Pretty intense episode. I would like to know more about Sensei's decision as well.

Vanitas coming to the rescue at the end.

Wow that was fucking enchanting, to say the least.

Amazing episode!!!!!! Kaito is doing such a great job with Noé. His pained screams really got me.

Who....or rather, WHAT is the Sensei. So many questions indeed.

I appreciate the trigger warning, but I think I'm either numbed to seeing that level of violence in regular anime anyway or the levels of shit you see in Goblin Slayer and Devilman Crybaby were so extreme that what happened in this episode paled in comparison.

I'm glad we got information on Louis though. It was interesting to understand what sort of influence he had on Noe.

Considering they showed the beheading of children, it had to be made to some extent i suppose(COnsidering people dont like seeing children being killed brutally). HOwever this is not even close the level of darkness the story will have later on. I think from now on we will see alot of trigger warnings

Gotta say that I really liked seeing Noe's backstory in this episode since it talked about Noe, Louis, and Domi's relationship, but at the same time, this episode was the one that caught me off guard the most since it went from something that was pretty wholesome to something that was dark, especially the part where Louis's grandfather killed Louis without any hesistation whatsoever

Anyways, we also got to see Vanitas return just in time to prevent the Charlaton from doing anything else to Noe, and I'm definitely excited to see what's next!

A backstory on Noe, Domi and Louis.
The first half was just wholesome but it ended up very badly..
Domi ends up getting killed by the Teacher.

We've got a lot of information about the characters in this episode. Now we know why he wants to save them so badly.

Charlatan almost took over Noé but thanks to Vanitas. He's saved.

You mean Louis who got killed by the Teacher. Edit: Just saw another reply correcting you, nevermind ~

The way it started with all the merry and kids having fun stuff after that violence warning sign made me wonder just what dark stuff is gonna happen but damn didn't expect Noe to have such traumatizing past.

It must've been really traumatizing for Noe to see all of his friends get killed and then see the most important friend get decapitated literally in front of his eyes. Now I think I get why Noe said that he will have to kill Vanitas in the end by his own hands. He doesn't want the Louis incident repeat itself. If Vanitas goes crazy then Noe will kill him before the bourreau gets in action.

So glad Vanitas arrived on time. I would've lost my shit if he was still busy doing stuff with Jeanne while Noe got swallowed by Charlaton.

Eh, boring but contributed a lot to the story that it was actually p good backstory for Noé. I feel bad for Louis as he was pretty much damned to die. Other side characters low-key didn't have anything special about them so I didn't care.

Good episode.
