Godawful. Every single thing about this episode and everything about this adaption going forward will be godawful. I could let skipping a few scenes in Episode 1 slide, but this is inexcusable. Skipping information for no reason, shuffling around scenes for no reason, inventing new scenes and plot points out of nowhere for no reason.

Yeah as much as I love this series to death I can't defend them this time.

Especially given how Shirai is working on this personally like, what?!

Given that the original creator is directly involved with this adaptation, my hope is that he'll fix this somehow.

There are few writers out there that are more hellbent on destroying their own work like Shirai. Not only does nothing make sense, I’m not understanding how any of this is going to be only a little “anime original content”. Whatever this is is just altering the story altogether.

Damn, what an episode! Anime-only here so I can't comment on the changes and whatnot but those final contrasting moments there has got me very interested.

Sonju's true intentions are out but I suppose it's a relief that he shouldn't bother the kids for a while at least. Expected something like this, to be honest. What's Mujika's side of the story though, I wonder...

Great shelter and tech by the way. "HELP", ominous signs however.

I would agree with you if after watching the next episode, they still don't introduce
, for now it's just too soon to judge whether the series is actually going anime original fully or not.

I feel like this is also a Trap by the house to make them stuck at one places? This episode is Thrilling as usual, as a Anime-only, can't wait.

This episode was so boring. It felt more like a random slice-of-life episode. I remember how absurd and hilarious it was from the manga in how they found the hideout conveniently laid out for them like it's a frigging 3-star hotel made by Nick Fury from SHIELD. The way the kids seemed too relaxed and optimistic about stumbling upon the hideout doesn't befit the intended mood of the story (at least what it originally wanted, perhaps). The "oh shit" moments with the HELP sign and the rigged call from the "William Minerva" also felt so coincidental and a rather hilarious way of reminding them that they're still in deep shit.

I don't remember that much from the manga (and frankly don't want to), but it also felt like they skipped stuff yet again here. This is continuing to look like an incoming narrative disaster.

I always had a suspicion that the demons that were helping were not totally innocent. And as it turns out Sonju can’t wait to eat humans. The only thing holding him back is his religion. I don’t know if that’s the same for the woman. They also said they could turn in the kids for 6 months of comfortable living. So is this a deal they have with the farms?

I’m glad that the kids have found a good place to live but the house also comes with its secrets.
There was some secret tunnels behind the piano which I think might be used as an escape in case any demons find them. Also, there was the work “help” scratched onto a wall in a room that appeared to be a cell. But a cell for who? Who might they have been keeping captive and why?
There’s not enough information to make any theories on that yet. And then it ends with a little cliffhanger with Mr. Minerva calling them.

Biggest take away: 1. The kids have to be careful of who they trust because as we have seen time and time again, people are not always what they seem. (Sonju, Isabella etc.)
2. The kids have a safe place to live for now.
3. They have finally made contact with Mr. Minerva but he seems to be keeping his distance and we don’t why, though I think there we can speculate as to why.
4. And most importantly: The bath scene 😏 (jk)

Yeah that's quite different from the manga for sure. Not that I don't think it worked like this too but.. why exactly? I'm not quite sure where this is going but hopefully they know what they're doing. Think the author is helping out with the script for the anime at least

Pretty sure the author is directly involved, yeah.

Hopefully he makes it good enough to where the manga readers don't drop the show.

Oho... Everyone is sus in this anime, Minerva included. I don't know why many manga readers said that the story goes downhill after the escape in the first season. It's still very entertaining for me.

But man, both the OP and the ED are brilliant.

At this rate if the next episode doesn't introduce a certain somebody, it's looking like the anime will continue with an original plot.

Interesting episode. Sonju and Musica saying goodbyes to the children. Sonju has ulterior motive. The kids reach there destination but its wasteland. But they find it with the help of the pen Norman gaves. Its an underground shelter that has complete amenities and escape routes. The episode ends with suspicious phonecall and a room with "HELP" written on it and other letters on the wall.

Btw manga readers you need to calm down. You need to wait next episode before judging it. Because that person will appeared.

What are you referring to by "shounen"?

I thought this whole series was pretty anti-shounen for being a JUMP comic, referring to the tropes of course.

I agree about the judging bit, people are jumping to conclusions much too soon.

But if the next episode doesn't end with even a frame of a certain somebody, I think manga readers who enjoyed the manga will have the right to complain as much as they want.

This... was not it, lmao. This was SO different from the manga, wth. It was okay to not adapt some scenes on the first episode, since they weren't that important but this?! I am really hoping things will continue as they should in the next episode, I am really giving the anime this leap of faith. If not then... well, they will be ruining the best part of the whole series imo. Whatever, if I hadn't read the manga this would be really cool but I just cannot not feel disappointed with how things are going.

Please, next week's episode be good, please put things back on track, please.

I know every other manga reader has mentioned the issues with this episode, but still I gotta say it,
Season 1 was very faithful to the manga for the most part, but if season 2 keeps going the direction its headed, I'm afraid that it will be a poorly paced and confusing watch. I really hope to see things improve next episode

The dialogue in this anime is quite childish and it annoys me. Children walk inside a scary dark room and some dumbass says "This room is scary and dark". Wow. Or they walk into showers that are obviously hot (we can SEE the steam) and go "The water is hot."

That's not how dialogue should be used.

Yeah, it just felt like a disservice to the manga readers honestly.

I know people shouldn't complain too much but this deviates so much from the source material that I think manga readers have a right to be annoyed.

Haven't read the manga yet, but when this kind of things happen one has to wait to see if the things where actually left out or just rearanged for it to make more sense. Idk if it was the case here, but that was the case with Re:Zero season 2, they obviously also skipped things there for what i've seen people talk about, but important plot points that happened earlier got rearanged to have more impact later. That or they going full anime original after ep 2.

Haven't read the manga:

It seems like Minerva uses this place do his own experiments maybe. That HELP sign could be from his subjects.

He attracts the people smart enough to reach the vault and then experiments on them? Who knows, let's see!

Please don't confirm or deny this if you have read the manga.

Very interesting, looking forward to more!

All of this just reeks of too good to be true. Like seriously, a shelter that nice and well equipped and safe can’t be what it appears to be. It doesn’t sit well with me that no one is there, like no one has escaped before or followed minerva’s messages before or even humans not from the farm, like someone should be there, or there should be traces of people being there before, and recently seen as the place is well stocked and in good condition. Also, why is it that when they found that secret entrance way they didn’t tell ray and Emma straight away, like that seems like an important thing to bring up. And with that end, man I’m just too on edge and I wish these kids would stay together so they don’t encounter these important things separately but at the same time.
And yes, I too get the feeling that this is leading towards minerva’s shelter being some kind of premium farm because it takes so much intelligence to find which would improve the brain, and all that scribbling on the wall was a big red flag, and I also get the impression Minerva is watching them somehow seen as he just so happened to call when they arrived and the moment they opened the door. And it would make sense that he has a radio to check in too. I was thinking this from season 1 as I never thought the farm would be stupid enough to allow in these books with coded messages when smart kids would figure it out, but then again they were stupid enough to let them escape, but man maybe they allow that so that they can find Minerva and along the way the brain will improve as some kind of glorified mega farm. Idk my theory brain is running away from me.
I also wanted to add that I don’t know what to think of sonju, now that he’s said he wants to eat the children’s descendants because then they’d be wild and can be hunted? I didn’t think he had ulterior motives like that, and I don’t know if mujika agrees, but I suspect this won’t be the last of them.
Also, as an anime-only, I don’t know much more about the lore, but if this is another farm, are they still going to eat Emma and ray, even though they’ve passed 12? (Well ray has). Like is that just a rule for the farms, are they still consumable and wanted past that age??
I have so many questions!!!!!
