Not every production is a masterpiece even if it's done by a master.
So, this is Maeda's worst one? Okay then.

I think he deserves another chance.
But 12 episodes are not enough. Maybe 13... Or 24, screw it.

---

The mistake on this show, IMO, was the following: things a little bit apart from reality.
People get touched by things that can happen to them. Or, at least, things that can happen commonly.
I mean in the sense of physical things. Spirituality is another thing and works well.

Brain chip... wut.

For reals, that whole scene with Youta and Hina was EXACTLY like

Then I thought she might die as she ran to Youta, I thought she might die as she walked to him during the filming scene....and they kept faking us out. xD

That comparison with Air is very legit, was low-key kinda afraid as well.

Wow... Maeda and Key sure hit a new low with this anime.

I'm not sure if Maeda wanted to use his personal experience (if I remember correctly he did a heart transplant?), but it didn't work.

They shold go back writing Visual Novels with the appropriate time to build the story.

the trainwreck never stopped after izanami's story ended. totally a waste of some great character designs such as izanami and Hikari Jinguuji whom was utilized on plot only once in a ridiculously boring episode.

This show was the only single cour show he wrote that didn't work for me, though. Some people on this site hate Charlotte...but it was very well-received by its target audience.

Kanon, Air, and Angel Beats did fine with just 12 episodes...so I don't think that's an issue for him.

Emotional final episode. I do wish the build up to this was better. I still wish Yota and Hina's love was more of a sibling relationship because they were practically family with Hina being quickly accepted into the Narukami household. Also, it wouldn't have wasted the episodes building up Yota's long crush over Izanami along with her backstory.

Whoever did the music for this anime did a wonderful job. Takaramono Ni Natta Hi definitely gives off an emotional vibe.

Honestly, this show was great up to like episode 9, after that it didn't feel the same at all.

I am glad that Hina got some of her memories of her friends back, she was able to call them by name by looking at the drawings. So atleast we got sort of a happy end. Just don't like how forcefull Yota was in the final 2 episodes.

Visuals were good, voice acting was also superb.
6/10 from me, just didnt hit the same as other Jun works for me.

I'm gonna be brutally honest. I think Hina should've either died or never left the facility. Felt that would've left this series with a little more impact, especially since the director claims this was supposed to be one of their saddest animes. Like sorry but I have a hard time buying that this girl just inexplicably decided that they would want to be around the guy who has been scaring the hell out of them for the past weeks.

Pretty disappointed with how this turned out. Hina is adorable tho.

The way it's so easy to take Hina from the facility. The way the officer just given up and not even kicked out Yota straight away when they finally realized he was conning them all along. The way Hina suddenly remember Yota's name and her surrounding. The way no one feels anything weird for having dissability person playing a role in an indie movie. Oh Maeda you are having a laugh.
I'm too weird to live but much too rare to die.

It would be actualy good if it had some kind of buildup before maeda tried to turn this slice of life anime into a tear-jerker. The ending is good and satisfying but the lack of suspense and build-up basically killed every sad scene.
The largest disspointment from Meade for now. Loved his previous work but god, this is just wasted potential.
6/10.

Well this ended up being a really big fucking flop, lol. I kind of liked the beginning though because the characters were kind of quirky, but it just went downhill as time went on. The entirety of the anime felt like a bunch of 'killing time' because it was coming off as a slice of life when it wasn't meant to be one, and new characters were being added in just so weirdly, lol. There were some substance, but really the only good thing I'll remember here is the animation.

This was like a poorly done version of Clannad.

Idk I think a show that's so boring you don't wanna go to episode 02 is far worse than something I can actually watch the whole way through.

Dang what an ending, what a predictable ending...

Honestly I loved this, I thought it was amazing until it hit the half way mark or so. When it hit that mark the shows quality started to downgrade and it was quite obvious to notice it. The only aspect of this show I looked forward to was it's music, every other aspect went Kaboom.

I'm disappointed, very disappointed.

Final score 5.5/10 > 6/10

I would rate lower but the music was just...amazing.

Well, this was a show that happened. It started out pretty great, like a high diver at peak performance, but ended pretty crap, like that diver landing in an empty pool. It's pretty clear that Maeda was so preoccupied trying to make "his saddest work yet" that he didn't think about making anything work logically so it all came out forced.

Like the final scene at the hospital. There was no reason for that woman to even have Hina out there. On better terms, maybe, but after Youta is forcibly escorted out by security? Nah... And then they just let him take her home! If they wanted that to be the final scene, why not just have it take place at the end of Youta's 2 weeks? They could have still had some kind of drama but just have it play out differently instead of ending with him being ejected early. They could have even played it up so it would be like she took Hina out there out of respect after Youta trying but failing to get through to her. There were a ton of logical ways to end up with the same outcome.

Then Hina is just at Youta's house, surrounded by tons of active people, acting in a movie like it's no big deal when she could barely handle one person at a time at the hospital.

Overall, some good characters and a decent premise made the first 75% pretty good but the ending was more annoying than anything else due to the way it tried to force an emotional response without even trying to make sense. 5/10

Oh man. When that ending song started up, with just the singing - I knew I was in for a world of hurt when the credits began rolling.

I don't usually go for the whole 'power of love' schtick but I'm willing to make this one of my few exceptions. With how shit 2020's been, this was the bittersweet, uplifting story I needed.

I'm glad Jun Maeda didn't leave me a complete wreck, this time around. Just partially.

Everything about the ending felt so forced, to me at least. I enjoyed some parts of this show, but I probably wouldn't recommend it and I feel like everyone is just going to forget about it. The characters were probably a strong point as well as the comedy. The drama and emotion is where it fell short for me. It certainly looked great though. The character designs were interesting, and the animation really stood out at points. The music fit really well at points, but overall, it was pretty forgettable, like the rest of the show.

Ok well that was the dumbest shit I've ever watched. I've never had to rate a show this low before but after watching this I'm sure in dropping this from a 5/10 to a 2/10. 2/10 because it at least had an interesting premise and some funny moments.

I rated it a 5/10 because I thought it was going to have way more development like this...

SHE DIDN'T EVEN DIE? Honestly when she fell asleep watching the movie I thought she fucking passed away LOL

EDIT: Removed the sentence where I called the anime a waste of time. Was kinda running high off emotions when I first wrote this lol. It was ok to watch to be honest - just really predictable and boring all the way through.

Peoples just went crazy after seeing this last episode. But for me, its just utterly beautiful. It takes a lot of extra courage to accept people with special needs like Hina. As Youta perspective, and his current age, its really hard to received such an information. By that kind of ending, its confirmed how lovely their bonds could overcome anything. Thats the miracle, whatever its form, i appreciated it until the last second.

However, i am still not denying any unnecessary stories elements that sometimes ruined most of the peoples mood. I can't described that much. You can already see it by some other peoples. However, i am still a rookie, that always came to a positive conclusion over this kind of show. And for me, that kind of ending, satisfied me much, no matter shit the rest of it.
Describing this kind lines might be biased. So, i don't care for the rest of everyone else thinking:
Story: 6
Art and animation: 8
Sounds depts: 8
Characters: 8
(Last scenes confirmed how much i am liking the main characters. No bullshit. Even the side characters were lovely, especially with Izanami. And one of the tools, Suzuki, was also quite respectable at the end of my last decision. At the end, for this kind of show, i am ignoring every shit and concluded the characters are simply lovely.)
Enjoyment: 9
(Simply that kind of ending was the best route beyond everything. And him, walking through the landscapes, as how they accepted each others conditions, its just well received for me)
Overall: its 8/10 for me (+1 bumped up, cause Hina's sick mode is too cute to resist >°<. Always happy, y'all. Then someone, please help Hina remembering that his name is YOTA not YOHA. God must be damn about that xd.)

Kinda expect more epic conclusion. Guess, this is just too good to be true. So, its still enjoyable. My keynote is just two sentences: the saddest part of that was not its sad elements. But, to knowing how hard they accepted their lovely end.

As far as i am concern, its a nice words, whoever made that lovely provocative sentences. I don't even know who, but its really affected. Its give this show lot of attention its needed xD.

This show in its end moment did the same thing while having an additional Karma MV integration as the movie in this show which did the rework on its predecessor. While this show may not have appeased to Jun Maeda's past masterpieces, it did shine on the redemption of Yota's way of living.

I would have hoped if the plot would not just focus on a single pair of characters but delved into most of them (which they did with Izanami and Suzuki though failed on Jinguji's term). If the plot would have moved so, this show would have had an amazing conclusion. Though this ain't so bad either.

7/10

fucking called it and it really did turn out to be Charlotte 2.0 but somehow worse Jun needs to stick to doing comedy or a SoL its what hes been best at outside a few key works this show was a good time till it jammed what little plot it had brewing at the end and it's laughable calling this the saddest work yet

really don't forcing your way onto someone that has suffered trauma or mental illness but our boy yota "proved" /s you can just yell and it'd work out in the end!

5/10 would only rate it a bit higher for my long PA works bias to their visuals and the character designs and music were nice

This had to be the worst anime I have watched this year, and probably one of the worst period.

Never once have I felt sad, how can I sympathize with these characters that I barely get to know? Plus so many random plot points, it is just overall messy. I forgot that the hacker man and CEO plot point is just so random, what was the purpose?

What a waste of my time. I thought this series had potential when I watched the first episode but I was dead wrong lol.

I can't feel sad, even at the lowest degree. This show was pleasant for its comedy aspect but the emotional part didn't convince me. A waste honestly, the overall construction just seems misbalanced, it never succeeded in giving that drama/tragic vibe. I'm still giving it a decent grade but surely not for the last 3 episodes.

Not OP but yeah it defintely wasn't the worst anime this year. Just incredibly underwhelming and mediocre if you compare it to Maeda's other works. That's why I rated this one so low.

Hina is alive and she is better than some unfortunate characters... Nope. not the saddest anime from Jun Maeda for sure. When Hina is calling for 'Yoha' name and started to speak more scene do made my eyes teary a bit but that's all.

Youta said he wanted to become like Hina's grandfather, hope he won't create another chip or he will just repeating the same tragedy all over again.

Youta and friends didn't mention about Hiroto at all, poor Hiroto when he's the one that telling Youta about Hina whereabout before...
Overall, I only can say, this anime is not successful like Jun Maeda another works.

Well it doesn't matter me. At least the anime is great and I indeed enjoyed it from start to finish and I'm happy with a satisfying ending. 8/10

So I hope that next time, don't announced it to the public that this will be a saddest anime that you ever made. I understand the other's dissappointment. Their expectations didn't meet from what you're proclaiming..

I think that was a decent ending but, the episodes preceding it didn't really do a good of a job building up this ending properly. Hina was a good character as well as the other supporting characters, Yota is eh for me. If it had more episodes for proper build up and showcasing the characters more, I think it would have been better.

It's not the saddest anime ever by a long shot but, it was still kind of sad. The show didn't do much of a good job in making us care for the characters, I like Hina but, not enough to be destroyed emotionally by her condition. Though I still somewhat enjoyed the show overall. 6.5/10
