Rewarding Violet with the pin at the end of this episode was lazy and weak. She did not earn it. As the show portrays, up until now she had been writing reports. Then she writes one actual letter and that is all it takes. Cheap. Cheap. Cheap. It was too easy.

Other than that, it is almost confirmed that this anime takes place in Germany which throws it in the bin of FMA and AOT of popular anime that are inspired by Germany. Very strange phenomenon.

There is some bad history saying that "The Western front was static for the war." The Germans did launch a major offensive in 1914 in which they initially took all of that French territory. Then they also launched the Verdun offensive. And finally they launched the 1918 spring offensive. And the allies were attacking constantly the entire time when there wasn't too much mud or snow.

This is probably best portrayed iin "All quiet on the Western Front" in which the battle lines do not move much but that does not mean that there is not death, carnage, and heroism.

People have described this as episodic but I wouldn't slander Violent Ever garden with that label. There is progression every episode. As a matter of fact, I think there was too much unearned progression in this episode.

I might have been ok with this if we actually heard the letter but we only read one line. Ridiculous. Overall, i can't hate the series too much because it does pull on your heartstrings.

That was a fast graduation, it looks like they are planning to fit as much content as they can in this short 13 episodes adaptation, I mean, if it's going to keep up the same quality, I'm all for it.
The pacing is obviously fast, and yet it feels as slow as a lazy snail on a bad mood, again, nothing too distracting here, the story looks like it's not going to focus more on action anyway, but rather, follow Violet in her journey to being able to convey her feelings. I'm just going to get ready for the sadness nuclear bomb that is her finding out what really happened to the Major.
Looks like Violet is starting to make some friends, with her approachable nature (Partly) it's going to be easy to have even more friends. They are teasing something between Cattleya and the blond delivery dude, probably a crush? Speaking about the postman here.

I can't believe how easily this show makes me cry. I mean, I'm a person who rarely gets moved by these so-called tearjerkers (I felt nothing during Nagisa/Ushio arcs in AS, for example), but here I need to pause because of the teary eyes and the anime isn't even doing anything particularly interesting yet. I'm not sure about the overall quality especially that the pacing is all over the place, but so far I'm just simply surprised.

I like the concept, it's different and with the impressive audio-visuals is pretty moving.

The graduation was very abrupt though. It feels like a first step in the right direction that I can be excited for in anticipation of what's more to come, but from simply one successful letter? With Violet's background, it's definitely plausible it was coincidentally successful with a brief and direct means of conveyance.

Had high expectations for this show due to so many recommendations. First few eps had a great premise but I felt Violet is too much a caricature with her robotic personality. I liked this ep more than the first two though and hope it picks up from here...

I really liked this episode, both OP and ED fit well for this show, and the OST was great for last scene.
Violet's graduation felt pretty rushed though.
I don't know why so many anime-elite crybabies are so upset. I like this show overall. Stop criticising everything and enjoy something, please!

Luculia is the MVP here. It's really hard to find someone who supports you that way! according to my country standars.

Happy to see that Violet is showing improvement in her ghostwriting. She managed to express Luculia's feelings into a letter. Had it gone wrong... oh boy i dont want to imagine what her brother would have done...

This was the episode for me, this was IT.

For me to really be invested in a series, I either have to care for the characters, or the plot is really great.

With ep3 I finally started connecting a bit to Violet, the last 2 episodes were fine, but really for me, this one is the best so far, and now I m more invested and definitely curious to see what happens next.

It was genuinely warming seeing her finally grown and starting to understand even if only on the surface about the emotions she is searching for.

Well, this was a better episode than the last one. I quite liked Lucilia as a character. But it bugs me that just two sentences from Violet that were the exact copy of what Luculia said were enough for her to graduate. Also, the OP song is nice but the ED, both the song and visuals are great.

I like how they show us the stories of other characters and link them to Violet, and she is a point of hope for them despite their past.
It's a great anime.

Given some of the other shots in this series, I guess I expected more from "The most beautiful view in the city."

I found it encouraging that they were willing to let her struggle and fail here at school... at least I found it encouraging for 10 minutes.

I want to like Violet Evergarden, I really do. This show looks and sounds amazing, and the premise of operating a post-war postal service seems like something I'd eat up in a heartbeat. Perhaps there's some fine tuning that could be done regarding the writing? It's really hard to pinpoint.

Insofar, I hold nothing against the characters, but with Violet specifically, I feel the writing is forcing sympathy toward her too hard, despite her not really having much personality to sympathize with. She's kind of a blank slate, defining and identifying herself as a soldier solely under the service of Major Gilbert. I get that the show is supposed to be about Violet learning more about...being human I guess?

She's absurdly robotic, so it's hard to feel for her despite the show's best efforts. However, being robotic isn't necessarily a bad thing, nor is trying to get her to learn emotions and empathy. I'm not sure how I'd imagine improving upon the show, but I'd suggest maybe emphasizing the letter delivery aspect, where Violet would have more opportunities to travel the city and meet more people. She doesn't have much character to begin with, so by developing the city and its people, Violet would have more people to connect with, thereby having her character be defined by those around her. This would presumably let her develop identity based on her experiences beyond the war.

I dislike constantly emphasizing her mechanical appendages, and I dislike Violet constantly bringing up Gilbert's last words. I get she'd need to explain her situation to every new person she'd meet, and I get her prosthetics aren't exactly easy to hide, let alone Violet paying no mind to how others perceive her. I suppose I'd like the show to be more subtle in its approach, but that's just my personal taste.

Violet Evergarden certainly has moments I do like, such as the concept of a robotic person trying to decipher the emotions of people, but I just don't know. In some respects, the show goes too far with its method of garnering for viewer sympathy, but in other respects, it doesn't go far enough with developing its world. It's just the third episode, so I'm not going to form a solid opinion yet. I know I had high hopes going into Violet Evergarden with how much I've heard about it through second-hand accounts, so my expectations are higher than usual.

The story of a broken person learning how to be more human is by no means unique. However, I'm never against a story retelling themes and ideas told by past works. It's always possible to either reimagine stories in new ways, or adapted for present-day audiences. I'm always a fan of a show that can retell old stories well, paying respects to prior works while adding their own twists to personalize their version. Because of this, I'm interested to see what Violet Evergarden might do, but again, perhaps I'm just setting myself up for too much of a payoff.

This is such an emotional series. I love it. I love the drama cause its not the normal typical drama that I hate. Its more of the emotional drama from situations like loss and like this episode with the brother and sister. Violet Evergarden is filled with great stuff like this.

And god I love the OP and ED!!!! Just like the series, these tracks are so emotional.

I've watched a ton of WW2 movies as well and find that time period really interesting so Violet Evergarden just gets even more interesting for me cause its set in that kind of time after the war.

That was pretty moving. A letter doesn’t always have to be long, she managed to understand & translate Luculia’s emotions into that letter. Btw I really liked Luculia, she was so kind to Violet. Hope to see more of her!

Oh, and it looks like Violet was at school, but she doesn't seem to be very good at sheep, but it's no wonder she doesn't have feelings. 🤚🏻 But even in the end he manages to write what needs to be written, but even Spencer is ugly and what he went through, but I still can't understand people who live like that. 😐

Violet underwent some education regarding the Auto Memoir Doll position to get more experience, and I guess receive her own brooch of recognition. It seems as if her ghostwriting skills are improving, slow and steadily.

In this episode, Lucilia helped Violet progress well with putting someone else's feelings into words. Maybe slightly unintentionally tho. She, herself, was having issues conveying her own feelings to her brother. Turns out with even the smallest amount of lines, you can get across someone's true emotions. Kind of a sweet thought.
