I'm normally fine with edgy shit but come the fuck on, this was literally pushing it, even random people were talking shit about her, like WTF? we get it, you want her to look pitiful, but dont be so obvious about it.
I can deal with the bullying part in school and such but even at home her bro whoops the ever living shit out of her, only friend is a cat that got killed because it was close to her so bullies killed it and then attempted rape? to top that shit off the teacher doesnt even give a shit about her, that is just begging.

They couldn't just make some random crappy animal thing like Kyubey or Monokuma? Also those instructions for the gun... that part was hilarious but seriously I knew this was going to be dark and all, but not in this manner, just seeing a girl being tortured ain't fun... oh but it got better once people started dying so umm... yeah... I'll be here next episode.

Yeah. Not really into the magical girl theme, regardless of sub genres such as psychological, seinen.
The only one i can think of is ikusei keikaku, that i seen, but i can't recall why i even started watching it.
Didn't enjoy it that much, especially with the magical dude. But whatever.

At the other hand, this one is a lot more promising.

Maybe one day, i'll watch Madoka.
But to be honest, i don't really like the art style.
Whoever made it, has probably consumed all the LSD available in the country.

I agree with that sentiment.
It felt a bit too much, she doesn't just get bullied in school she gets tortured (waterboarding, rape), at home she doesn't just get worse treatment compared to her brother but she gets abused to near death every day (and her parents don't notice?), the only light is the cat and it not just gets killed by one of the bullies (which is already mental and if you kill a pet like that and enjoy it you are with two legs in a psychological facility) but slaughtered and laughed over for 'spraying guts everywhere' and the teacher just didn't do anything but seemed to enjoy the bullying too (because there is no way he didn't see the crap on her chair and table).

I mean i know that bullying and pressure lead to more severe cases and more teen suicide in Japan and Korea, but that seemed completely over the top as if they wanted to hammer home the point way to much.

This first episode appeals a lot to free violence and suffering often, causing me to catch anger at those who did it very quick, desiring their freaking deaths. Her brother's aggressions don't have a very convincing or plausible justification (like stress), it may be psychopathy or extreme narcissism, or something related to magic, curses, etc.
The other mahou shoujo by killing the bully to forge an accident with the stylus, left his

What do you mean realism? Are you saying those things doesn't happen in real life? Read the news and sometimes and you'll see things even worse. I have seen a video of a group of girls playing ping pong with a girl where the bullied girl (or the ball if you prefer) was standing there and the other 3 girls where just kicking her to each other. I think it's easier to imagine soccer players passing a ball to each other in a circle the only difference was that there was girl instead of a ball.

I only think that the brother bulling was too exaggerated. I was expecting him to do it more in a psychological way than just punching her like that.

Do you think IRL bullied people get any help at all? If they had help they wouldn't be bullied anymore.

That's how it happens, they get bullied and no one knows (or pretend to not know) or do anything so the bullied person keep getting bullied until somethings happens. Usually the bullied person is too afraid to seek help so it takes a long time until someone with enough power to stop the bullied get the word. Sometimes no one helps at all and the person commit suicide or something like that.

Watch less anime and read more news about the world and you see how much people get bullied like that.

The only person I'll quote here, you're absolutely right, this kind of things does happen to some people and no one helps them, everyone just stand by themselves and does nothing against bullying... Well, not everyone but most of the people, some ef the others simpply doesn't know about it. It's not like I've gone through that but I do know it happens and that's why I get mad at this kind of situations...

Back in elementary school grade 5~6, I did face bully by classmates as well as teacher's neglect cuz I were a transfer student. I also have a violent brother who seems to have mental issue. However even to me, this is WAYYY over-the-top.

Do note that this is in modern Japan, not some dark age period.
If you want realistic bullying, go watch A Silent Voice.
If you want realistic child abuse, go watch Erased.

Again this is not that unreal. Some of the things the girls do to her might not happen IRL that much (like the shoving her head in the latrine), but everything else is very very easy to happen.

The parents? The passengers? Education department? Police? Other students?
No-one has anything to say? This is not some secret child abuse, it's public torture.

The parents were clueless and the father only had eyes to his "great son", they never pay attention to the girl, although this seems unreal it does happen IRL too.

The brother does everything late at night when the parents are sleeping it seems.
As for the others, did you see anyone around when she was getting bullied? There was no one ever because that's how bullies do their "job".

The police or the school doesn't know and the teacher is a piece of shit who doesn't care about his students. There haven been many news about how teachers doesn't do much against bullying in japan this is not strange at all.

Students are not going to help her ever. Is modern Japan (like you said)where no one wants to confront others. Japanese people prefer to endure things in silence than confront others. You should know this already.

I don't know how can you say that it's public abuse when it's clear no one knows. Only other students know and they will NOT interfere at all.

Don't worry, people will complain about this show just because of how dark it is tbh. Nevermind the good animation and the fact that the plot seems interesting so far. If a show is dark, people will automatically flock to calling it 'edgy' and thus refer to it as bad.

Guess someone never watch Fate Zero lolz..
It's a dark series done right.
Also I enjoy the mind-fuck in Madoka Magica, both are 10/10 in my book.

Audience doesn't need to watch excessive torture porn + over the top abuse to feel bad for the mc yknow.
Like I said before, instead of feeling bad for the mc, I actually start bursting out laughter because the trend becomes too predictable in this ep1 because of how try-hard this show is. It's like those over the top drama cliche love story that starts making people laugh.
When the author tries too hard and you can see it, it becomes unintentional comedy.

RE: Zero has its fault, but the tension is build up properly before leading to the torture part, and there are the light-hearted part along with the heavy part that they balance out so audience can feel the unease when the dark part comes. I can actually FEEL for Subaru because of that.

You can't just toss in every terrible things you can think of into one place , merge them together and just call it a day.

Agreed fate/zero was done right though it could of been a lot more dark would of made it better

nah it was just directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, the guy who likes to turn every anime he touches into some pretentious art project.

I really liked the first episode, I don't understand why this anime got such a low rating already. I did read the manga and they catched the atmosphere pretty good. Some scenes are different, for example when the brother punched Aya she was topless in the Manga or when they picked up the cat at the railroad crossing there was still the head of the cat.

This anime is darker than Madoka but I would say they're on the same level of quality, just wait a bit and let the story continue and don't downvote it from the beginning because "uuh so edgyyyy, it punched some negative emotions out of meeee, uhuuu."

Was expecting something really dark and it was a very hard watch
I don't feel the bullying too exagerated execpt for the brother one (this type of bullying are really common in Japan)
I wanted to read Mahou Shoujo of the End since a long time due to it's atmosphere and I'm really pleased to see an anime adaptation of this type
This first episode really did set the tone of what's going to follow after and by the same way distant people who hate this type of anime
Looking forward for the next !

The girl getting bullied in school is more than enough to make you feel sorry for her, but they had to let her brother bully her at home, the teacher to be such a prick, bypassing people on the street being assholes, her cat getting killed, and some guy trying to rape her outdoor.
The drama can't be more forced than this, it's even worse than Kotoura-san!

I noticed Ceaser Clown's voice from One Piece.

The cat hit my the hardest. The brother, the parents, the teacher can all die. The third bully I think can live, seemed like she just went along because her friends (ex-friends) were doing it.

(Presumably) MC's acting is similar to Yuzu's to the point that it's a tad annoying, but guess I'd have to roll with it.

I was extremely disappointed with MahoIku so was only half convinced going into this. Surprisingly looks a lot more inspired though, art looks less perfect but actually more interesting, characters more enticing. Mayybe could be a good show. Puzzled that the reception here was so negative, storyline etc looks average at worst, maybe could be called generic but doesn't really stick out as a trash plot...yet, at least

Interesting that the mascot? for the site looks exactly like old Alice Glass

This felt like too much for a first episode. Nothing was established-- character, atmosphere, or anything-- before the anime plunged headfirst into an onslaught of over the top violence. It was too much, but not in the sense that it was too much to stomach, there was just an unrealistic amount of abuse from too many different outlets. All those bullies and her brother were generic psychopaths to get this "edge" train going. And honestly, how do her parents not hear both her brother and her screaming every night as he beats her? It's just ridiculous.

Also, it looks like they're not really "magical girls" so much as they are "girls who happen to have objects that are magical".

Probably one of the least subtle shows I've seen in awhile. I think without the flash forward at the beginning there would have been more suspense, it was obvious that other girl would save her. Show seems like it'll be amusing since it seems to not give a fuck how dark it gets but at the same time it's not original or creative in any way. Production values are pretty good though and the concept is amusing, might give it a couple more episodes to see how crazy it gets.
