This show gives you an initial impression of just a straight (hopeless) romance. It really turns itself into something much more than that. The relationship of the two main characters serves a foundation for a much deeper emotion/passion. This the direction was really quite well done in addition to the wonderful art and animation. Being initially attracted to this show because of the potential for romance and having the focus be something completely different in the end...I give it credit for that given how much I did enjoy this title.

GREAT FINALE, i mean both Ms tachibana and Mr kondo has able to realized to themselves that they have both dreams (or in this episode promise) to fulfill to themselves.

*AND THE MESSAGE OF THIS EPISODE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! we must try to achieve what we want with..

THANKS FOR THIS SERIES!!!

I am very pleased and pleasantly surprised. Given the subject matter, it couldn't have been handled more tastefully. It's not much of a romance as it is a double 'coming-of'age' story, even if one part of that happens to be in reverse. I think it's interesting that there's more of a lustful/romantic sense in the beginning, but that cools down as it moves on. The open endedness is heartwarming, and coupling that with some stuff that stuck out to me personally, watching this was a great experience. Incredible visuals helped along the expression of emotion, which was already very well done.

One scene that stuck out to me was when Haruka was watching Akira at the gashapon, and that expression on Haruka's face painted a picture that was immediately understandable, and would not have been better expressed with a monologue (I can''t remember if there was narration during this scene or not). Sometimes Kondou narrates too much, but what can you do... No idea is brought up without another to connect it to, and none of them are left unattended.

If this is what 'love' is, I want to see more of it in romance. A very 'mature' story, in the good sense.

Now I kind of regret reading manga. Because this episode made me angry and then I cried. Apparently it's a full adaptation. And although I understand they skipped some less important stuff, I have no idea why they have skipped the most important part -

I am really, REALLY disappointed. Especially because even though ending is horrible (for a manga reader who was so into manga that read not translated chapters with Google Translate), I still think this anime is more than 10/10. Great art, music, voice actors... Everything was nearly perfect. And even though they've done some things wrong, I still love KoiAme anime adaptation.

They didn't skip that. It's literally the last imaginary hug scene that happens in Kondo's head. Of course there is a part of Kondo that loves Akira.

However... Kondo is well aware he would be a bad partner to anyone. He's way too obsessive and can't date anyone properly and be happy with his favorite work/hobby at same time. He needs to write, read, write, read, write and read in endless stream until he dies or is literally unable to write because his body can't do it anymore. Nothing else will satisfy him at end of the day. Not a pretty girl. Not a family.

He knows this and lets go off his useless feelings he can't deliver on the best way he can. Dude is even skipping work at the end to write more and risking becoming evicted homeless person if someone found out and reported him. That's how crazy he is about literature. And his friend is more or less the same.

In this series Akira actually understands this after witnessing Kondo around literature few times. She knows he won't be able to give her what she needs and Kondo also indirectly tells her that "We are not going to become couple. Get over it". It's frustrating, but she eventually accepts it and moves back on her own path.

I like how the entire show was building up a romance (or at least Akira's love beginning to be reciprocated) then it was dropped entirely. Not sure if this was how the manga ended or not, but it felt pretty badly written. I didn't like how they were handling the romance aspect, but this ending was just dull. Yep, you could say it was beautifully simple. Idk why I expected more...

The rain, sun breaking the clouds, those eyes everything's frickin beautiful.
Yuuta & all the sides are mostly fun, including the budding cute ship of Yui x Takashi, which give more layers contrasting the two mains delicate relationship.
Wasn't sure about this end but probably the most reasonable & safe ending, coming to terms that Kondo indeed has feelings for her but he just loves writing literature that much, and it took Akira awhile & lots of conflict, but she indeed enjoys running with her friend a lot. It doesn't stop them staying very close friends & Akira as pseudo-mom to his son.

Oh yes how couldn’t I see it! The romance tag on this series is just a joke. This series isn’t actually about the Akira falling in love, its about the turning point in Kondo’s life. I somehow like this show even less.

Yes, because anime is created based on the tags MAL uses to sort. You're half right I guess, it's about two turning points, but obviously the problem lies with your preferences and not 'bad writing.'

Okay, I see where you're coming from. I think we're just on a different page of me watching this analyzing it negatively as opposed to you watching it how the writer intended. A better way to put it would be 'careless writing' rather than bad. But if you weren't to call this at least a show about love then what was the purpose of all of the build-up in the first six episodes? I liked how they were pushed apart in the last few to be individuals, but they totally dropped the romance part like it never happened. There wasn't much impact of the finale imo, it felt like the end of an arc to be expanded on later.

Oh well, I guess Kondo got his full story. Can't help but feel like I was baited into thinking this was about Akira rather than him.

I am gonna make this short and snappy.

Overrated series, nothing really special than the typical slice of life.

1) Thankfully the two main protagonists of the series did not on a date or else that just be too wrong and I would feel bad watching it.

2) Other half it slides into a Slice of life and focusing on individual problems. I feel like the plot shifted.

3) Average series

A difference of perspective produces different results. I think the romantic aspects need to be there for the superficial relationship to be built; Akira's lust and attraction etc are an aspect of her youth. But, for two people who are lost in similar ways, it is a different kind of love/connection that they want, and the ending is them figuring that out. I wouldn't go as far as saying the romance was forgotten, more that their relationship changed as it became less important (to them). There's still a lot of love in there; friendships, workmates, old friends, etc. Ambiguity when it comes to emotional stories will always get bonus points from me, so perhaps there's another difference.

It's a story told from the perspective of the muse, but isn't as if she is not equally moved.

Very disappointed their relationship didn't develop further, and that the focus went more into accomplishing their goals or whatever - can't say I'm surprised tho, as they wouldn't have the balls to cross that line anyways. But overall a pretty good show.

OFC I FRICKIN' CRIED AT THAT END SCENE.
It just felt like Kondo was feeling what Akira felt when she didn't run after him after their date.

A beautiful finale with the same sombre feel the other episodes have; it didn't feel like a final episode at all but not in a bad way. Most of the anime I've been watching this season have been like that.

The series was wrapped up the best way it could be without actually wrapping it up. I think the manga has only just finished, or its final chapter about to come out?

Overall though, it's been a joy to watch this every week. It handles a pretty controversial topic with class and doesn't cheapen anything with unnecessary tension or drama.
Sure, part of me wanted so badly for Kondo and Akira to be together, but it wouldn't have felt right when they're both so unfulfilled in their personal lives. They need to find their feet first, and come back to one another when they're at their best.

As someone who read the manga, the anime ending is better specially the part for Takashi and Yui since the manga is very harsh on Yui's feelings. I replayed the part where Akira ran towards Kondou and their hug over and over again until I'm no longer squealing and crying at the same time! Haha! But the best part of this anime is that it gives you the possibility of them meeting again in the future. The manga is not that nice with their parting of ways but the anime gives you a sense of hope that someday they might meet again once their promises are fulfilled.

my personal opinion:

+ The story and "romance" felt very adultlike. No weird fantasies; just a story about two people's life.
+ Got me keeping interested after 12 episodes
+ Story about life and goals

- Sudden flip from romance to a story about life itself. Didn't feel very natural to me and felt like there are open holes left in the story
- Not a very clear direction of story lost my interest a bit (often questioned myself: what does this anime want and where does it want to go?)
- Lack of some characters

I personally don't think there will be a second season. iI would watch it since I am interested in where it would go on from here.

I really enjoyed this show! I was really expecting something different, and this impressed me.
I'm happy to see that Tachibana helped Kondou to remember his childhood, and he started to write novels again, and Tachibana's final thought of starting to run again, I hope she and Haruka back to their relationship of best friends.
The mensage of this anime is too powerfull, follow your dreams, no matter how hard it looks.
I like the OST and the way that they uses the drawn of Tachibana Eyes in the anime.

Beautifully done
Artsy was gorgeous
Human feelings are complicated, This gives you the feeling of what if and i wish or if i were...........So many people have been in these shoes or somehow falling for someone we can't have, the best part of this anime for me is the fact that i can relate it to real life issues.

5 out of 10. Loved the first seven episodes for the emotional intensity of the Akira and Kondo relationship, but the series really didn't progress after that. Apparently, the author wouldn't or couldn't go as far as Koi Kaze or Kore Wa Koi No Hanashi. I can understand why, but if the author can't handle the taboo subject matter, then leave out the romance. The romance had really no bearing on Akira's decision to return to track. The anime is better than the manga, which has a completely depressing ending as far as Kondo is concerned. Being a middle-aged man myself, that was a gut punch and made Akira a very unsympathetic heroine. In the anime, one doesn't quite get the impression that Akira was using Kondo as an emotional crutch. A good decision by WIT. WIT did about as well as it could with the source material.

Pretty ambiguous and open-ended closure.. but when thinking about it as sort of prose it kinda works.
Kinda... because it left our characters in the middle-ground without any hope of sequel and this take a bit from viewer's satisfaction in the end. But I'm actually glad they didn't end with each other right away, I believe the story is better because of and it it's nice it turned out that the main theme wasn't her love for him in the end as it looked like in the beginning.

I understand this was mostly story about motivation, friendship, coming of age, sorting your life and overcoming hurdles along the way and that they probably separated after she graduated and went back to running at university and as such it was meant to be bittersweet but it would be even better if they actually hinted this developement with hand-drawn stills in the credits during end (parting the ways, each coming their own journey, always remembering each other's influence to their lives).

Still, the animation, style, music and mood this anime set was absolutely superb, together with some life lessons and as such it was well worth it. Definitely one of the best slice-of-life that stayed true to its core lately.

I'm in the camp that the show started incredibly but ended extremely disappointingly. It'd be nice to get a second season to finish the job. It was written well enough to handle the subject and then gave up on the goal kind of like Akira and Kondo until this ep. That irony may be the goal of the show but I would have rather just been satisfied.

Solid final, even if it feel a little too cheesy, cliché and rush.
Still, that anime was powerful for me and developped its romance with a masterful excuation that is rare. Kondou really acted as an adult with Akira, and instead of developping a cliché romance about taboo with absurd drama, the anime focused on peoples that learned from others. Kondou learned to search his young dream by it's relation with Akira that gave him a chance to feel young again, while she learned about trying her dream again seeing the regret of Kondou about his life.

I don't understand why people are disapointed in the direction taken by the show ? If nothing else, that was elegantly realistic, and was nothing more than a life learning story where Kondou became, despite him, a mentor for Akira, a life teacher. Nothing more, nothing less. Even, the show deconstructed some cliché with the blond and orange guy, and that was refreshing to see.

That was just... elegant.

Dissapointing ending, both manga and anime leads to a goal story more than romance, which is not a bad thing, is a pretty thing instead. The problem is how the anime has reach the end.

I have finished the manga few days ago, and they have skipped tons of parts, cute moments, kind of dates and lot of parts that lead you to the end, which is harder than the one the anime shows. Even a confession and broken heart.

But in the anime, you can watch how Akira is in love in the 9 episode, how she want to works even in sundays just to stay with Kondo, in11 episode and how she get blush in the final moments, and suddenly she says that she will rememeber him like a mentor or something. And i Have to assume it just beacause a few clues.

I am not mad about they didnt end up together, what pissed me off is that nothing make sense at the end, because thers no path to reach the end they have showed.

Beautiful ending to a beautiful show.

I believe Kando did fall in love with her but not in the traditional sense, more of the idea of having someone support you and view you as someone who can do anything you set your mind to. Akira always saw Kando as an intelligent man and not how the other workers at the restaurant did.

Came into this show for a romance but came out with a beautiful story about dreams and realizing that bad things may come in our lives but its what we make of it that matters. Beautiful message!

8/10 !

The show starts out as a taboo romance and ends with a life lesson on never giving up on your dreams. While I love me a good romance (and wouldn't have minded if this had a romantic ending), this was still a really impactful show due having such a powerful message towards the end.
“Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth. But the world isn't perfect, and the law is incomplete..." -Alphonse Elric

"Then and now, what I protect has never changed!" -Sakata Gintoki

I'll take anything like The Pet Girl of Sakurasou. Anything as good as that.

Even though the ending isn't really a "bad ending", my heart still shattered by it. overall I'd give it an 8-8.5/10. It suffered a bit during the end because of just 12 episodes, but that's not the story's fault. Even in that low amount of episodes, it still managed to captivate and have a poem-like storytelling.

After the Rain is unique and quite interesting to go through. The artwork and animation is stellar, the music is nice, and overall the characters are quite likable.

I'm just a bit disappointed by the turn the story took. What began as a forbidden romance ended as a story about pursuing dreams. This is completely fine, however I found the dreams of both MCs to be kind of bland, and disconnected from each other, aside from both being dreams. While I was at no point frustrated watching this, there were many instances where I was bored, and sort of wondering why I was spending time on such story.

Still, for a mature, laid back, yet not quite slice of life anime, this remains worthwhile in its own right. I appreciate its uniqueness, but most especially the soft approach, which, contrarian to many anime that go too far, sort of let things work themselves out.

Refreshing, but a bit bland.

6-ish.

there a lot good values that we can learn from that, especially the "promise" part, i glad it ended in a great and beautiful way. i guess i'll start reading the manga then

Overall really enjoyed this show. A bit disappointed with the ending since it really just leaves things hanging, but maybe someday they'll make a spin-off about their future. I generally hate the "when we accomplish our dreams..." crap. In the real world, most people don't really ever get close to their true dreams. Sports stuff like sprinting usually doesn't even last beyond mid 20s. Despite the age differences, they were clearly really good for each other. In my mind, they found happiness in the future together.
