At first i didn't know how to feel given the big age gap, but it was actually handled in a non-creepy way. The visuals were nice and overall i liked this. Definitely looking forward to seeing where this dynamic between the two MCs is heading.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

I'd heard that despite the subject matter the story is really good, and boy am I glad it was true. The humor is great and I like the more classic shoujo character design of Akira. I'd also heard that the age gap is the main subject of the story and that it's handled in a very mature manner, which would be a great change of pace. Personally, I'm just glad it's a change from the usual incest/non-blood related sibling cliche.

You beat me to it! Akira's captivating violet eyes!!!! If a real girl can't have violet eyes then science needs to get right on solving that natural error.

So far this is excellent. Many lovely scenes. Characters are well-realized in the adaptation.

As others have pointed out, didn't this air a day early? It is only the 11th Japan time. In any case, I'm glad I noticed it was available.

Violet eyes can occur naturally, though are super rare. Only example I can think of tho is Elizabeth Taylor. :/ Mutations ftw?

One of the best first episodes this season. Very atmospheric and simple, making great use of show not tell. Really love the unique animation style Wit has to offer. This could be their year. Regarding that, I firmly believe this is the dark horse of the season.

Why is this listed under Seinen? This is SO Josei. The character design shapes and proportions look like they came from a different decade, but with a modern aesthetic. Everything looks so clean and crisp, I love the atmosphere. So far, the story and all the characters are likable, even the clingy stalker-san. And we learn a lot about Akira's personality just by the way she interacts with the other side characters.

Can never go wrong with an ED by Aimer.

Okay, this is definitely impressive. I don't know where this is going and whether or not it will turn out a good series in the end, but right now I feel like I've seen an entire movie in those 20+ minutes, and it was a good movie.

The manga is published in a seinen magazine. As such, it's labeled a seinen. Simple as that really =P

Didn't expect this to wow me more than Violet Evergarden.

Incredibly well done and how much it tells its story visually in a format known for lazy exposition is a marvel to behold. Some of my favorite shots are the initial scene where MC is walking on a street and above is the track team running and the little moment where Kondo fantasizes a younger version of himself for a brief second.

Its characters also seem to be very entertaining but there is a lot of potential here for layered characterizations as well.

Obviously gorgeous animation and art and a fantastic ED.

Great start!
I’m really rooting for this show and expecting great things.
Wit Studio’s really got this under their belt here with those stunning visuals and soothing music. Animation of this show is pinpoint and Tachibana’s eyes are just so mesmerizing, loving the vivid details. I really love Aimer’s Ref:rain ending piece and it’s great to see the visuals for it to be pleasing too. I had been listening to the song from the 1st PV quite a bit for the last few days and it’s just as great as the first time I heard it. Op is brilliant too!

So far, so good! 8/10

Just now paying attention to this work. The female lead has to be one of the most attractive that I have seen recently, even reminds me of old school designs that you easily could seen in several animations, but for this modern adaptation it's outright gorgeous with all the visual effects.

Wit Studio has definitely a thing for pedophillic romance. It has some elements that remind me of Garden of Words, but I feel like the relationship didn't feel as natural as how Makoto Shinkai portrayed his version of pedophillic romance. However, I'm still invested for the next episode.

My thoughts exactly. I really like the girl too

Also, she might as well be a Shinigami in Bleach because her Flash Step is phenomenal xDD

Very interesting plot that looked really concerning at first glance, but after watching the first episode it looks seemingly innocent and natural. Did not expect the personalities of these two leads to be how they are. I'll keep watching to see how it all goes down.

The character design and visuals in this is pretty different too, it's got a modernized 80s image feel to it. I like that they're not overly cutesy or attractive, but they are very long and thin...

For this you should be grateful that this manga gets published in a seinen magazine, otherwise it'd be your average, shitty shoujo with an abusive male lead.

It's serialized in a seinen publication, hence the genre listing. The author is stylistically closer to a lot of shoujo/josei writers.

was not really expect for this anime to have really great animation. This could go head to head with violet evergarden but since yeah kyoani has alluring character design, but this one ultimately unique with that animation effect. It was good first episode.
oh yeah, I feel like the character design look like the modern version of detective conan series

Came into this mostly blind; picked it up because Aimer. Surprised at the old-school style art, it's really good.

I don't have a problem with age gap relationships usually but this is quite the gap. I think the one-sided love is cute, but I can't really see a middle-aged man falling in love with a high school girl and it coming off as sweet. I'm hazarding a guess that the blond guy exists for a good purpose. Regardless of what happens I think this will be a great show.

Am I the only one who's been more tuning into the lovely background music more than the dialogue? Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for good music but if that distracts my attention away from the dialogue then that's a bad thing to my ears. I say this because I personally found that the voices were getting drowned out (at some parts) by the background music which somewhat ruined my enjoyment of the episode which is too bad since the first episode seems to nail every other aspect down so far. :( Hopefully this won't happen for future episodes because I want to consider this show as an AOTS contender for the Winter 2018 season since it's such as breath of fresh air in the romance genre and I can't stand most romance shows.

With regards to the age-gap plot, I'll admit I was very leery of it when I first read the summary. However, the first episode seems to demonstrate that the show will handle that subject in a mature and innocent manner, thus discarding my worries. As long as it does that, I have zero problems with it. If people want to have a moral debate about romances with age-gaps, then they should do it in a different thread instead please.

My main concern would be how she started to (sniff) embrace his working shirt,.. though I guess it has to do with japs being deviant and stuff. Otherwise, an another entry in exploring the mystery known as love ( AI, not KOI)

I'm still not completely sold on this show. I like the mood, Aimer's voice in the ED is damn good, the artwork is high quality... but some characters designs creep me out a bit. Like, every girl is anorexic levels of thin, it's kind of scary.
Yet these hands will never hold anything.
Thus I pray, Unlimited Waifu Works!

Well age gap is too much and irritates me a little. Anway, the animation is damn beautiful, like an art, I really like this kind of animation. And Akira looks like Sawako tho, that's why she's already at my top 5. Also Aimer, her heavenly voice is so refreshing and that ending music is pure art. Btw I feel sooooo bad for Yoshizawa, I'm just like him... Sad...

At first, I was a bit afraid. Age gap between main characters is rather huge. But once again, I was scared over nothing.
I know it's just the first episode, but I loved it. Art is stunning, characters are funny and kind, opening is adorable, ending is beautiful. I'm absolutely going to read manga after watching all of this! This may be one of the best animations I've seen. Even if it's one episode, I just have this feeling.

I thought it was gonna be a little more subtle but when she literally sat there sniffing his shirt I noped the fuck out lol

it's bad enough that he could basically be her dad but the fact that she clearly has a sexual attraction towards him is a nope for me. at least the old man is still in his right sense of mind, no idea for how much longer though. not gonna stick around to find out 😂😂

I did click the episode because I knew that Aimer sang the ED, but the episode itself was quite interesting. The colors! The eyes! It's a tough topic to depict, so I'm looking forward to seeing the story fleshes out the characters. Until then, I'll dance in the rain happily because Aimer delivers again with that ED. <3

This manga adaptation (so far) has been everything I hoped it would be. The animation is super pretty, the moments where Akira watches the object of her affections are soft and tinged with that pure-love feeling, I think they managed to capture that well, maybe even convey it a little better in the animation? The opening is adorable, the ending song is beautiful, I'm just such a fan of this series so this rambling is definitely biased but I also think the way the author approached this type of relationship shows a lot of thought/care put into it.

Anyways, I'm very much looking forward to the next episode!!

I find it symbolic how Hirata Hiroaki yet again plays an oblivious middle-aged single father whom a younger girl has a crush on (same as one of his most famous characters, Koburagi T Kotetsu, and Blue Rose in Tiger and Bunny).
