Omg wtf is this show! It so good! From the music to the art I’m in love!

My favorite moment was when she fell in the water and met the undersea dragon
Ahhhh that was amazing

Great episode!

This show has to be some kind of visual porn.... The art is so fucking good, especially the way the war reacts to light and any other thing.

We got more of Elia and Lindel's story, poor Lindel got hit in the face eventhough he was only tryna help.

The whole sequence with Lindel's song and the water mirror was so well animated.

I thought Chise and Elias won't meet as she was busy making her wand, until the mirror water moment. Beautiful!

The questions that left me:
The stove never on.
The bird died.
Why, oh why?

So, everyone shouting about how wonderful that singing scene was, teary eyes and all and here i am thinking it was sickly sweet and kinda silly xD. It totally felt like those singing disney moments, lol.

I thought she was gonna use the wood from that one dragon from earlier in the season like he told her, oh well :c
Didn't she? Lindel just did a lesson on woods properties in passing.

Well he tells her about the different woods, then it pans to look at the first wood with the fire sprite on and she says she first came there, and then he says he had him dry the wood, but dunno if they're talking about the wood or the sprite lol

Was there some deeper meaning to the fact the fireplace wasn't lit? (Because he told her it was cold despite the fact it was on...) Am I reading too much into this? I don't think I am, why else would they show it unlit at the end?
Why interpret it as if he lied?

It's in the other way round, he says it's cold without her even though it's summer and he has the fire on. Then after they speak, there is no fire, meaning he no longer needs it after talking to her.

That could be one interpretation, but I think the other one is more likely simply because

1) I feel like they would've shown him specifically turning it off if he just decided he didn't need it anymore --instead of just showing the dead fireplace (plus there's no signs it was recently blown out, no embers)

and 2) they stopped the peaceful music and then cut to the ominous scene of Silkie burying the bird then the very last scene we see is another dark, SILENT, scene of Elias' back and then the empty fireplace. I feel like that last scene would've been more upbeat if the meaning was something heartwarming like your suggestion.

ALSO, watching a few scenes again, when he was talking to her through the mirror there was no background light that might have come off from the fireplace. The room was dark and the only light seemed to come from the bluish hue of the mirror. Plus we couldn't hear any crackling of the flames, but we did hear them in the beginning when the light was on and Silkie was in the room with him (actually we even have a view that's showed the flames in the corner crackling). Silkie never turned it off when she left the room so this leads me to believe that after she left Elias was upset and blew it out himself.

About that I assumed the waterbowl was in a different room than the fireplace. Never saw something like a waterbowl in the study room.

Yes, the floor looks like stone instead of hardwood/carpet and there seems to be vines or some kind of greenery in the background. So a different room is likely. Why mention the fireplace then...

eh Elias is probably a nut xD Still love him tho

I feel like they are just scratching the surface of Elias backstory. Wished we could have gotten more. I'm interested in what Elias had done in the fairy kingdom which might prevent his return even if the Queen pardon him.

Yep, I'm also thinking in a different room, or even somewhere outside.

As of why it isn't shown in an upbeat way or more literally. I don't think it would've fitted with the tone of the rest of the episode, that was way more somber in Ellias' end. And doing so in one shot still gets the point across.

Although i've seen this part of the story way before in the manga. I can't help but feel warm and fuzzy. Their story is somehow heartwarmig anf fluffy at times.

It's nice to see both Elias and Chise express their emotions.

I'm either going to drop this anime, or put it on hold.
I'm sorry. I've been trying to like this anime genuinely, but I can't.
For some reason, the dramatic magical seasons rub me the wrong way: I HATE the music score used, I hate how hard the anime tries to shove into your face on how magical it is.
I can't help but think that maybe I just feel this way because I'm watching it weekly. I dunno.

It is nice that we get to know more about that world. It is great that they are showing us how Chise makes her wand - one can say that it's irrelevant, but it's nice to see such tasks. On top of that the scene with faeries and a Lindel's song was superb - animation and music were absolutely stunning.
We also got to know more about what kind of "person" Elias was in the past - to be honest, it fits him, his persona. We also saw his struggle and I can't wait to see what will happen next!

I just binged these 11 episodes so nope, it's not because you watched it weekly. I feel like the show's really gunning for its magic/visuals to carry it while the rest just falls flat. The romance too but I'm not a fan of either of the two characters so it's a miss for me.

I actually find the visuals very bland.
I don't know why, I just feel very confident that if I watched this daily, I'd like it way more. Maybe because when I watch anime weekly, I have much higher expectations for the episode, I expect things to chop-chop, be more intense.

This is probably the most beautiful episode of Mahoutsukai no Yome. With Lindel being "little" Elias' mentor and legit taking care of him. Lindel telling stories about being with Elias, and when Lindel started singing while those elves were dancing with Chise then that scene between Elias and Chise. Ohmygod.

That freaking creature in the lake or whatever is that body of water was so majestic.

Was it Lindel's seiyuu who's singing? ;-; I'm in love with that song and voice. ;-;

5/5. ;-;

I will never tire of praising this great anime, the animation, scripts, music and characters are so well developed that each episode is a delight to all senses.

A job with dedication, care, commitment and most importantly, love, gives rise to excellent works that without a doubt must be successful. Mahoutsukai no Yome has everything mentioned above and more, giving life to scenes like this:

as much as I like the two main characters of the show. I have really an issue to get a feel for the magic in this world. It still feels kind of ambiguous. It feels like they are putting a lot of focus on Elias and Chise, which is not bad but than they maybe have to be more efficient with the world building.

Maybe I am just missing an overall arc to this.

Magic is supposed to be ambiguous it’s modern fantasy that makes it systematic and bland like chant fireball and boom. In mythology and folklore, which this show takes much of its inspiration from magic is basically anything. You borrow the powers of gods and fairies to work miracles and anything like that is magic

The magical, fairytale atmosphere is absolutely the crux of the show, which is something I really like about it. But that's... about it. I'm enjoying it... more or less, but I wish there was more of a plot, I guess?

It's weird, because I adore Mushishi, and sometimes I get a similar vibe with this show. Somehow this show fails to capture the strength on an episode-to-episode level that Mushishi had. I feel it would be stronger if it was purely episodic instead this pseudo-episodic, pseudo-linear narrative it has going on now.

It seems to be centered around the Elias/Chise dynamic, which I want to like more than I actually do I suppose.
