THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

Eh, I think the episode is okay. Kinda back to the causal style of storytelling again and it's a lot about Haku and the preparation for an invasion. Dat delivery mission though.

In he meantime, I think Haku's connection with the others is getting better.
I hope the story picks up a bit more. Lol a drunk Haku is always a funny Haku to watch.

Sorry Yamato, I love you guys and all but I'm gonna have to respectfully tell you all to fuck off.....Tuskuru will always be #1 in my heart and I will not stand by this

Still, I was surprised to see that Karura was still there and hadn't left to help out Tuskuru =o I wanted to see Haku and Kuon have a moment together though so that aspect was essentially my only gripe with this episode

Well it was about 90% sure that there would be an invasion but they went ahead and did it.

Still, this episode was quite good but at the same time every scene with those three annoying idiotic creatures droved me mad!

Truly what is their purpose in the story? I can't see any... the only option that they can have some usage if they are there to get killed at some point, as I would be glad to see it and it would give the other characters motivation to fight.

Of course not against Tuskuru as Tuskuru are the good guys. Yamato go get wrekt with that God complexed emperor of yours!

tbh this story is already telling more than the first season did

the first season basically told the chunk of the story in the last 5 episodes so im fine with a bombshell then a calm episode

So we get a set up episode. A calm before the storm, so to say, where we sum up Haku's story of misfortune and showcase how the upcoming invasion impacts the cast and especially Kuon.

Its interesting overall to see the story being told from the "bad guy" point of view for once. We are used to seeing Tuskuru overcome threats, so building up and developing the threat they have to overcome and showing it all from that point of view is an interesting approach.

In the end, Haku is conflicted between his fear of tragedies of war and his duty to his biological family. The fact that the key element of the family he made in Yamato has ties to Tuskuru also does not help. I think its clear that Haku deep inside understands that this whole situation is wrong, but is torn between the care he has for people and country he lives on, painting a morally gray landscape where neither of the choices are purely good or bad. Wanting to help people he knows makes sense in terms of his character and showcases his development as a person, since Haku of First episode never would have accepted this job.

We obviously end it on Karura's semi ominous words urging Haku to stay by Kuon's side no matter what happens. A quite ominous note, making us question what happens next.

They already implied before that Karura and Touka are basically Tuskuru spies within Yamato. IF they are still here, they most likely think they have not completed their goals yet.

Things are looking crazy right now. I do not know what to expect, but something tragic is bound to happen. Touka and Karura is still there. Who knows what the heck can happen. Why would Yamato inavde Tuskuru? Is it because of some information not given in last week's episode? Sounds a little ridiculous don't you think? But I do not know the reason fully. But I hope to find out later hopefully.

As explained last week, The Emperor's goal is to restore the human race that became extinct and turned into The Curses. Yamato is invading Tuskuru in order to dig up the remains of The Iceman in order to gain some samples that could make his plan a reality. Essentially, that means digging up Hakuoro's grave, which Tuskuru would obviously take offense to.

Those embarrassed fujoshi's was hilarious.

I honestly don't know which country to root for lol. I guess tuskuru, since they haven't done anything wrong and the only reason yamato is invading is because of the emperor.

Not only they would take "offence" to it, but it would directly go against Hakuoro's express wishes that they let him sleep as long as possible. No telling what may happen if he's woken up. He may well go nuts, separate in two again, and rip Yamato a new one with or without Amaterasu.

I'm thinking they want to do the latter and dig up his remains for the research. But I'm sure if they mess around with his grave, they're going to end up prematurely unsealing him.

I'm not sure if there's any "remains" of him lying around, as in, i don't think there's a dead "body" of him resting in that tomb. It's implied that he's in a death like sleep. Fat chances of them getting samples without waking him up. Yamato probably doesn't know that tough.

We know that they're the ones who sealed him. As far as I know, what can UNseal him, if anything, is not specified.

I agree. Also, I doubt The Emperor knows the details about how The Curse came to be, nor how Hakuoro chose to sacrifice himself for the greater good. He may have "good intentions", but The Emperor and Yamato are definitely in the wrong here, and things won't go well if they gain the upper hand in their invasion.

The emperor was working on a completely different research to save humanity and probably(Crazy theory) was saved up because he honestly was working out of good intentions to save humanity instead of the greedy research they did on iceman. - And with save i mean, get them out of underground, the gene research etc...

Now THIS is how you do character development without any combat or anything in a series like this. The way Haku always keeps his frustrations (mostly) bottled up despite all the crap he puts up with always bothered me, so seeing him drunkenly vent about how he's always the one to suffer (which is pretty much true so far) was something that was definitely needed. This episode also really helped show how Haku has changed since the start, as I bet he wouldn't have gone to anywhere near as much trouble to find Kuon earlier in the series as he did here.

And hey, all the filler episodes have been shown to have a very slight purpose as they helped Haku figure out some prime locations to search for Kuon.

Omg the opening sequence just made me rage so hard and feel so mad—actually not just the opening, the entire episode. I wonder if I would still feel this way if I never watched season 1 but I assume I’d still be. I mean the people have been given no reason for why such a well off nation would need to invade another nation that didn’t provoke them. They’re only reason is that the emperor said so. And all these mindless citizens agreeing to it. Fine, even if you forgive the dumbass citizens, all the main characters piss me off (especially that fucking Nekone). Like there is no cheering up Kuon, you’re asses are literally invading her country for no good reason (and it really isn’t a good reason).

Haku really needs to just tell everyone to fuck off.

Like honestly if they were all suddenly to plunge in war the very next episode and face off against Karura, Touka, Benawi and all the other awesome people from season 1 I would want these losers to lose and for it to result in death. Good riddance. Atui is annoying af too.

My real question is why Kuon is still in Yamato though (why is Karura still there too?) They need to abandon this shit country and go home to whoop ass.

Ougi still rocks though. You can spare him.

My thoughts exactly. She needs to assassinate that emperor or go home.

It makes me wonder if in the game, it is known by the other characters that she's from Tuskuru.Anyone can sort this bit out? Cuz the cheering up Kuon part made me grit my teeth with how stupid it is.

Right along with everybody's attitude of "It's okay to invade them because the emperor wills it, it HAS to be the right thin to do, we must no question his unfathomable will!". Yes, they do so because the people of Yamato blindly follow the Mikado, but honestly, it just makes me want to give up on the whole lot. I would have been more interested if for exemple Nekone questioned it a little bit, even without the Kuon connection.

It's episodes like this one that makes me wonder why we stuck around this long. Episode 18 and the show just never lived up to the potential you could see in the first couple episodes.

First, what the heck are Kuon, Karura, and Touka still doing there? The moment war is declared and soldiers are being sent to kill your people...it's time to go home. Spy time for the latter two is up and done. You are two of the most powerful fighters in the entire country, get going!

The whole "let's cheer up Kuon" just seemed stupid. I mean those characters can't be naive to that degree right? Your people are off to destroy and conquer her country. This isn't a "oh Kuon is depressed for some reason" or something normal. This is an invasion of her homeland.

I don't know. This whole episode felt weird. Just very underwhelming. Next....off to kill Kuon's people (yay?)

All of this.

It really makes me wonder how the VN was because I can't imagine Leaf fucking this up so bad. Alright, there was a bit of character development for Haku but that doesn't excuse the remaining 15 minutes of going around "looking for Kuon" who appears in the end of the episode anyway like no big deal while also trying to amuse us with pointless characters and cringy attempts at comedy. Serious shit right off the bat, Haku is going to deliver the supplies but Kuon won't be happy about it
Haku telling his side of the story and not finding Kuon in her room, then searching for her through the streets, good stuff.
Haku getting drunk and letting it out was quite a scene lel
Facking Kuon was sitting on those stairs
AYY MY KUON-chan HAS RETURNED!!, still how the fuck did he fall to that place, ceilings were broken, pains were endured.

SoL isn't bad, and stuff like both Anju and Munechika being a fujoshi makes it clear what it is what's supposed to raise her moral.

But having several episodes wholly dedicated to onsen, fujoshi etc., only to cut out a war meeting where several of the eight pillar generals are against invading Tsukuru? Similar, we didn't see anything about how the war went so far, or anything about Karura' and Touka's acutal spy activities. While seeing Haku went was nice, it was basically again just drinking sake.

Sorry, this just shows that those episodes where not about character development. It was just that you can't not have character development when you constantly throw in a new character each episode.

If they where serious about character development, they wouldn't cut out people not only questioning, but basically outright saying he is wrong, in a country where people can not even imagine that the emperor could be wrong, and where dinner is more important than the fact they are in war again (right after the first one ended), and this time even without any reason - at least we haven't seen that they were told the reason.

We also didn't get to see any of what Kuon thought about all this so far, what she talked about with Karura or how the rest of the cast reacted when she came back etc. Heck, this was the perfect opportunity to show another of this bath/sake episodes everyone is so fond off.

I also wonder why people aren't crying foul - after all, it was not a 1:1 adaption of every single pixel, usualyl thats enough to wish the whole staff, their families and any people they might or might not know to hell.
