... I was just testing you.

Nah, I missed that entirely, but the necklace definitely confirms it. Eruruu looks to be the only primary character missing from the OP unless I missed her, too.

Just to save you from expectations, Eruruu will not have a proper appearance in Uta 2. She might appear in Uta 3, where the setting starts to go back to Tuskuru.

If their people are starving and desolate wouldnt it be better for them to try to ally themselves with Yamato rather than fighting it. I guess I'm just having a hard time believing their motive for this invasion or how they can get their people behind it. Also seems like we're going to have another noble hearted woman on the wrong side of the battle.

It's not that easy to form an alliance between countries since you have to compromise national interests on both sides. First and foremost, these nomadic people don't have anything to offer Yamato, especially since they're already suffering from poverty and starvation. Moreover, from the looks of it, Yamato certainly doesn't have any interest in acquiring their lands, considering the terrible drought that they were suffering from.

Did big black fire monster in OP is Kuon? Did she also fight in defending Yamato and transform to monster mode?

Bad decisions.

Clearly the anime studio did receive a script for at least half of the game when they were creating the show - they merely chose the inferior of the lot.

Properly done build up that established characters and their relationships and built up a world for Haku(and us) to care, as well as an identity and life for Haku to want to hold on to.

Finally see some actions. Love the OP and ED, good job Suara!

So they are sending Rurutie and Atui to fight? Does Rurutie really knows how to fight? I think she will use her bird to fight like Aruruu did with her tiger.

And that scene where Dekopopon-fat guy was being ignored was pretty funny.

Still, I really want to see Haku in battle, maybe not battling, but planning battle strategies and stuff.

but we know haku can fight though
remember when the pricess was "captured"
haku fought with that general guy

It's finally starting to get better. While the first half felt only like it was made to introduce all the girls/harem from the VN the 2nd half seems to be more action, politics and war. Hopefully this continues through the next episodes. They probably timed it so the real plot would start with 2nd half and the new opening. I still think it woul have been a better idea to have started with this earlier (and introduction of all the girls a few less episodes and bit shorter).

What I like: Haku (he kept me from not dropping in the first half). And now that tea drinking and talking with the emperor and talking about politics ... I like such things. Also the bandits seem to have a reason to fight. Not just evil because evil. (And of course a new girl ... daughter of that bandit leader of 1000.)

Dekopono-sama ha ha the emperor was right. It sure is more fun with him. Probably some funny scenes when he'll get pwnd by the bandits. Also the funny mage guy will get screen time again.

Not really, that's pretty much how the VN went. Haku doing things for Ukon, while the female characters gets introduced one by one.
My one complaint that was actually changed into the adaptation is the non-inclusion of Haku's past, which should happen in between the first half, but they'll probably use this in the 2nd half.

Do keep in mind that Uta 2 is planned as a cliffhanger to Uta 3, that's why the story is structured to be like that.

I wonder how the battle will look like, will it be like Aeslan Senki or Kingdom? Is Haku a military advisor now or a general? Very bad story telling when they shoehorn that two little teenage princess into the battle next to Haku.

I figure Haku (along with Kuon) will accompany Rurutie and Atui and serve a their adviser/aide. I wouldn't see them fighting directly on the front lines, but rather as a supporting role, like guarding supplies, creating a diversion or doing some kind of mission behind enemy lines.

Not to mention we already seen Atui display a superhuman level of strength, when she accidentally sunk entire boat.

And even without that someone has to represent the said generals.

Let's face it the first half the show is not going to appeal the majority of watchers.

It was very slow, it had countless, pointless SoL scenes that added nothing. It had just unnecessary amounts of fanservice like a bath scene nearly every episode, entire episode dedicated to yaoi shippings, sex slaves and a lot of the fanservice isn't even going to appeal to the average fan since it's aimed at fujoshis and lolicons. The character introductions took too long and there were many cringy attempts at humor that fell flat on it's face.

I think we can all just be happy that they're actually moving forward with the main plot of the show instead of wasting time with build up and introductions, which could have been handled much more quickly and smoothly.

Yes and no.

Akuruka = A special kind of Mask
Akuruturuka = People wearing Akuruka.
So in other words, Akuruturka is a title for Oshutoru, Mikazuchi, Vurai and Munechika.

While I agree that the build up and introductions could have been handled better, what's being done in the first half is hardly pointless. For one thing, the scene where Rurutie reading letter strike a great contrast to any other previous scenes in the same room, which can only be done by giving sufficient amount of time in the SoL part to bring the effect. And if you consider the positions of the main cast right now and how they get to this point, there is very little that could have been skipped.

Also, it's not quite right to say that they spend too much time on baths. The bath scenes on and before ep6 are spent for some good character interactions, and it's actually a lead to get Kuon meeting Karura and Touka. After ep6, there was just a brief one in ep9 and another at ep10.

It's just that anime don't have that much time to present the rich experience of life in the capital, and it seems missions in actions are being cut away to bring up the point in ep11 where Haku got to face the fight with Oshutoru, which has much meaning in the structure of the anime adaption. I do wish they spend more time on world building in the capital rather than some hit or miss jokes though.

Hurray, I finally regained hope in this anime as while so far Haku as protagonist really did not disappoint and kept me watching the series, there really was about 4 too many episodes about "pretty much nothing". The first episodes were great, but then the most of capital episodes were nothing, now however it's time.

Hopefully those times wont return and the second half of the season will be more war centric.

As for this episode, it brings hope. Especially with the new opening that shows those guys!

BENAWI, even though he never got enough screen time in first season and in this one he will probably appear during one or two episodes max, also without much role, he still will remain one of my favorite characters in the series.

At the same time though, the new opening is a grief as I did not see Hakurou there! Just for one scene, for one second, show me Hakurou saying even a single word and it will be +1 in score :)

We have seen characters sit in hot springs or eat delicious food thousands of times and it already contrasts strongly with the opening where bunch of starving people are fighting over an earthworm. And the contrast will only get starker as they surely won't have the privilege of such things if things get really serious.

But those baths aren't Yamato baths - they're Tuskuru's.

Also, a person's experience in another country shouldn't be limited to just bathing and eating. If you're going off that, you might as well just stay in hotel and just order takeout.

Haku and the gang really could have explored Yamato a bit more. That being said, I'm pretty mad that the anime skimmed over Haku and co.'s introduction to the capital. Seeing the major landmarks was actually pretty interesting, but we only really got to see the huge road and the temple. Pretty lackluster if you ask me.

I was also pretty disappointed that the anime spent so little time on Anju's reveal to the public. In any normal society, an event like this would have extreme cultural significance. It was also an opportunity to introduce all of the generals earlier. Unfortunately, all of this was shoehorned into the last two minutes.

Rurutie and Atui are going to battlefield for obligation and education. They just need to help the Yamato army to show supportive effort of their father. No one expect them to take command, and the army of their home region isn't here for their command. They're childish, then harden them with experience. That's education.

By rich life I mean the rich experience, including not only the good stuffs in life, but every aspect of it. There is just too much to present that those baths and foods are just tip of iceberg. Travel a bit to get ingredience for good food, dealing with shit(literally), patrolling at night, sharing ups and downs - there's no way the anime can present enough of it unless they make another series dedicated to this part like FMP Fumoffu. So it's the question of how do they make that life endearing while having to rush through the checkpoints.

We have seen delicious food sold basically on the street(alongside it being wasted) and through the "normal person's life" through eyes of Haku, Yamato already was built up as country of rich and privileged.

If we go with what we have seen in the first season(Tuskuru's architecture, lifestyle and problems), the contrast between the lifestyle is even bigger between Yamato and the "barbarians".

Sure it might be a little simplistic but it works well to contrast with the things those people do NOT have.

Ina way I'd even say that showing the difference between what a "newl person" would see in the country works even better than an actual lesson about the town.

And that's what the normal life elements are already used for - using the difference between lifestyle to show difference between Yamato's privileged society and the outside, using the room where most of fujo comedy bits happened in a chilling moment where Rurutie and Atui receive their letters(hell, having someone like them who have been mostly carefree, become incredibly serious in that moment), showing someone as innocent as the boy who crushed on Nekone, marching in the army, showing Nekone's trembling hands - none of that would work without what was achieved in the last 12 episodes. It all works to show a contrast of all those people thrust away from their "everyday idyllic bohemian life" and into hell.

They are still something they have access to in Yamato.

Food and hygiene are two most crucial elements of a "comfortable" lifestyle. Two elements, the quality of which defines the quality of your life and the mental state you are in Thus they work well enough as a contrast.

Fai
Please stop being such a fanboy. You are not convincing anyone here that the first part was well made. I think the only ones who liked the first part were the ones who liked the slice of life and all the comedy stuff. Anyone expecting some sort of proper character and plot development will complain about the anime.

It's ok if you think everything was fine, but don't try to impose your opinion on others. You are clearly doing that.

OBORO!!!! And androg twins.
Who's the guy with shoulder loli?
Witsu hype!
I didn't expect the first half but I liked most of the worldbuilding/comedy (too much on BL books tho), old & new characters were fun especially Haku, the few plot points were alright: OTOH there's Kuon saving Haku, Ukon's village, Haku learning the world & to work, Slime backstory, bug fight, bandits siege, move to Yamato, Ukon secret, Onsen Inn, Karula/Touka's secret mission, finding work, 8 generals + Anju intro, BL writer's secret, merchant's secret, Deko's corruption shipwreck & Atui proving herself, squid?, the Red twins as "benevolent thieves" who share the gold shower (the Robinhood act is related to Oboro, explained in recap 01, possible foreshadowing), Anju antics kidnap & growth, Ukon testing Haku revealing his strong fan ability, twins under Haku's order, priestesses & they can teleport???, Mito stuff...etc. Probably more if I rewatch...sorry not so few...
Lol Deko jumped the gun, messed up the whole generals plan. So only the two royals have cavalry to chase after him. Quite interesting how different the 8 generals are (instead of born in the city, they seem found by Mito from outside) implying their army specialties, different ideologies... Vurai too spartan, even Haku got scared by him.
Poor Maroro...

So the two princesses weren't random, but represent lords. Rurutie Southwest from the capital (based on those maps). Atui South on that long peninsula/islands. Atui's a great force, but can't imagine Nekone & Rurutie fighting...maybe as mages.
Tokifusa (funny ears general) in the West.
Starving invaders Northwest.

According to the map they shown in Episode13, there's no Tuskuru country as you quess. And yes, Tuskuru is in an another land far from the mainland called Japan in our present world.

Yes, the 2006 is a predecessor. Utawarerumono is a trilogy.
