I'm going to be really honest, I have not seen anything that is this good for a long long time. I stopped watching anime for a month or two just because I couldn't find anything good but this anime has restored my faith in anime.

I just stumbled upon this by accident and OMG what an amazing piece of work. This is one of those anime where you just connect with the anime and it soothes you. Brilliant!

The performance in this episode was great as well, Beethoven would be proud. I'd really love to see the two MCs fall in love.

Let's see what else it has in store for us.

But, I think she knows that Watari's gonna ditch her. That's kinda' sad, 'cause I know the feeling. Been through it.
But damn, friend A, you say.

I don't blame the guy for sleeping. I like classical music, but symphonies often make me sleepy, especially because inside auditorium it is dry and warm. Though solo tends to be more melodic and less sleep-inducing.

I envy musicians that can play from the heart like Kaori. I can really relate to Kousei since he learned by sight-reading. It doesn't really help to learn like that when you're young because elements like dynamics, tempo, and key signatures get distorted and it takes longer to realize that music is art. It's not supposed to be played so rigidly (although classical music demands the rigidity).

I'm pretty sure this anime is a major hit with musicians. The contrast between Kousei and Kaori is highlighted. Kousei was all about winning and not enjoying the music; Kaori plays the music her way because it's from her heart and couldn't care less about winning.

Like Kousei said, it was her own piece eventually!

Begin to strike the keys, although the sound they emit is sweet, much remains to perfection...

I loved the way the pianist was looking at Kaori to see whether she would do a fast pace again or take it back slowly :D
The movement halfway through was a bit sloppy for a moment but still overall amazing play.

I can already tell where this is going though, Kousei is most likely going to be Kaori's pianist.

Well, this was indeed a eargarsm, or auditive orgasm. She cover-ed the piece as she wanted.
I also knew she was not gonna win because she didn't follow the contest rules but what I didn't expect however was a Public Choice nomination.

The nervousness she showed in her hand while asking Kousei how she did, shows that she also has some weight over her that we will eventually know about.

PD: Kaori is weird with Kousei, jaja. They are cute and weird together, mostly weird jaja. How is that thing of "substitute"? WTF That's crazy jaja.

Outside of her playing music she doesn't seem like good character... like she's an entirely different person when playing music than when she was waiting on her "hot boy crush"

So far I like this. I'm a fan of shows and movies in which characters struggle musically and do music performance, I've seen a bunch. There's a lot that's not animated here which is a bit of a bummer. I have as of yet to find a music anime I like as much as Nodame Cantabile but this has potential.

Cool to see Kaori in action, she was beautiful on stage. The lack of confidence in the MC seems a little over the top but it's obvious he has a bit of a dark backstory with music so I'm going to give him the benefit of a doubt for now, hoping his redemption comes early so we can see some other stories as well!

This is getting great quickly. Twenty minutes have never gone by so fast.
Although it surprises even me, I quite like the classical music side of the story more than the rest of it. I've never been a fan, but the animation and the music are just amazing.

Classic music is a niche thing and I don't belong play something like from the playground instead. Also this is probably because of the hundreds of school based romcom anime I've seen but I think I'm getting numb when it comes to romance with these teens. I's fair to say that I almost don't give a fuck about these ships.

I really enjoyed this episode, the flow and some particular moments reminded me of a Wong Fu production. Also, how the judges reacted to Kaori's performance and how they scored her reminded me of how Irish step dance competitions are, basically the same things happen when taking risks.

Production quality isn't Kyoani/Hibike level but the performance was nice.

Yup I think I already know how the story's going to play out. I heard a bit about it's ending and I can see the picture now. Bad dynamics or not, this should be an interesting watch. Also, events in this episode seemed less forced than in the previous one. My hopes are up.

Thrice. That's how many times the soundtrack swept through me with it's soothing effect. That is something else, 4 years I have lived without it.

Characters look charming to me so far. Watari has confidence and popularity among girls, but does not blindly live by it, he seems rather concerned about other boys who aren't in par.
Arima is that intelligent and analytical guy but having personal contact renders him unable to express his true opinion (I interpret it this way).

Guy who performed first got so much attention, really :)

I was disappointed when they did not animate the playing of the first three people, but then they went all out with Kaori's performance and it was great. Wonder how many episode it'll take them to make him play the piano again.

Everyone knows who Arima Kousei is, I'm sure he'll make a comeback soon.

Both Kousei and Kaori are great musicians, but there's a huge difference between them here. Kousei plays to be number 1 and make his mother happy and proud, while Kaori seems to play just for the joy of it, that's why she doesn't care whether she won or not or whether she's following the actual piece that she's supposed to play down to the exact pitch.

But never mind that for now... Listen to how great Kaori played it! I'm no musician, but that's amazing to hear!

Honestly, I just want to see him play the piano again. Maybe that will be the 12th episode or so, to finish up the cour? I imagine that is what the show is building up to you. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about classical music, so the first three pieces sounded basically identical to me, but maybe that was the point, in that Kousei was the only person able to distinguish the differences because of his trained ears. Kaori's performance was certainly more interesting, because a) it was different and b) it was actually animated instead of still shots. I can see where the judges are coming from, docking points like that. What the mass favors isn't always artistically the best piece of work, and her performance was certainly blasphemy by that standard. He's going to be Hatori's substitute, huh? Curious to see where this goes.

That performance gave me chills.

This is what I thought K-ON was going to be -- music driven and inspiring -- but I am still deeply hurt it was about moe nothingness. I hardly had any expectations walking into this anime and mm.. This is going to be good, huh?
