So, the flashback comes first huh, and it was speeded up. I hope the next in Liore they also speed it up, because it's gettin' boring.

This episode was very good. I am a previous watcher of the other series, but I am not going to compair the two.

This episode is fast-paced, but I bet to viewers that have not seen FMA or read the manga, get a good jyst of what had happened to the Elric brothers. They can't dwell on it for several episodes, so it had to be fairly quick-paced. I do beleive they will constantly go back to their past and strengthen and lengthen certain points of it. For now this "quick-summary episode" is all we need to continue on the show.

I have to say... Alphonse getting eaten by the gate is 10x creepier to me than it was in the other anime. I know I said I wouldn't compair, but my friend pointed this out to me, and we agree it's kinda freaky. Well done.

I really like the appearance of the gate. I wondered how they'd translate it's appearance into the anime, and they did it very well! So I am happy.

All in all, not the best episode, but a nessisary one. Now I can't wait for the next episodes that shall come out! :D

There was something about the animation in this episode that was weird. Hopefully it will be just a one-episode thing, like ep 4 of Gurren Lagann. The preview looks like the animation will be back to normal for next ep.

I find this new series pretty boring honestly and I was a HUGE fan of FMA's first series, I got all the DVDs and watched every episode at least 12 times, but for the life of me I couldn't even get excited about this new series :(

I was really drawn into this episode and couldn't believe it was only 24 minutes because of how glued to the episode I was. The story is moving at a fast pace, but I like it that way since I've seen the first FMA anime.

Let's face facts: 112% of people watching this series watched the first one and a good number of those read the manga as well.

Not me.

I didn't think of it as fast paced, I liked it. I got to see Winry! She's a cutie, I was spassmin' when it showed their mother in that horrible zombie state. Poor kiddos.

I do not remember the first couple of episodes being as emotional as this in the previous anme, however I did drop it so there you are. All in all it was a good episode, very emotional and more of an explanation etc, very fast paced but there is nothing wrong with that, fits in perfectly.

What brotherly love there is.. Really....

This is better than the 1st series...

Animation, Sound, follows more the manga, characters > 1st season...

This really looks like the fix of the first series...

Wasn't a bad episode.

I'm liking Miki Shinichiro as Mustang. Winry was quite cute in this episode. It's probably gonna take a few more episodes before I can get into it fully.

After I finished watched the episode, I just thought one thing :
- Wow, the gate is really amazing, They made it beautifully, very different from season 1 and 2. See in the difference in the first season and the second one.
In the first there are lots of eye and mouth smiling everywhere (It's so creepy, ya know), then in this gate there just one big gray eye. XD (the eye is so cool !)

"I'm an existence that you folks like to call me 'world, in other words 'the universe', in other words 'God', In other words 'truth', in other words 'entirety', in other words 'one', and I'm you"

Wow, watching the whole part where Edward is brought through and learns everything was really neat, it certainly cleared up a lot of questions for me. Overall since I knew the story it wasn't a particularly strong episode for me, but it certainly wasn't weak or irrelevant.

Oh! Gosh, after reading all of your posts it is easier to understand! I was thinking "Oh goodness, how could anyone have understand the manga at this pace? D:" but is seems that these first two episodes are just for introductory purposes, right? :)

So (is this right?) these first two episodes are not following the manga, they are like catch up, and in the next episode the plot should start to follow the manga?

Hehehe, Al's face was so cute when Ed and Winry had their moment! ^_^

Also, did anyone else hear the Fuhrer saying (during the exam) that Ed has a lot of "Pluck"? LOL!!!! What on earth i pluck? ^_^;

The first episode was all stuff that wasn't in the manga. All the stuff in the second episode is in the manga, but A LOT of the details were cut. All the important manga plot stuff is still there, but this one episode covered about four 30-paged chapters. Which leads to the issue with pacing.

Hope that helps.

Finally after the big hiatus my wait for the dub has been rewarded.

This episode was kind of different from the original, and I am interested in this Truth character. I hope we see more of it because the gate always confused me.

Next episode looks like a scene for scene remake though.

Wow I actually liked this episode mainly because I haven't seen the first season and I have no idea as to what happened to the Elric brothers in the past, but now I know something about them, lol.

I was wondering though about how does Elric do Alchemy without that circle thing. Did he learn it when he was in the other dimension when he was still a child? And also, I kinda like that Winry girl. I hope she appears in the future.

Oh and that thing they created that was supposed to be their mom? Is it still alive? I wonder, I wonder.

Yes, seeing The Truth gives you the ability to perform alchemy without drawing a transmutation circle. The hand-clapping basically *is* the circle.

Don't forget that this series diverges sharply from the original storyline starting with episode 12 or 13. However, most of what happens in the first 12/13 episodes (that also happened in the first series) happens slightly differently, and those slight differences become important once the story diverges.

In short, stick with it. You'll be glad you did. If you're not convinced by episode 19, then I'm completely at a loss.

They showed us matter for what we got for like 40 eps or so in the original FMA. For everyone who didn't watch FMA this is probably too much information, but probably this time they want to concentrate on things other than the matter many of us already know of.
By the way, Ed's eyes really looked more "dead" than "burning", but what ya' know.

Quite an interesting and sad story Al and Ed have. If a way of reviving someone isn't widely used, being forbidden instead, there has to be a reason to it. What they did is understandable though, since they were just kids. I wonder what would happen if Ed tried human transmutation again... Does he remember the whole "Truth"?

So, from what we've seen in the preview, that High Priest who supposedly creates flowers from nothingness actually has a Philosopher's Stone. And that pink thing that disappeared when Isaac died in the first episode was also one. I thought they'd be a bit rarer...

The concept of equivalent exchange is rather interesting too.

I'm not sure what you are talking about here. The scene where Mustang said he'd join showed Ed with eyes with absolute determination, like he's found a purpose.

I really liked how they handled this actually, particularly the scene where Ed met "The Truth", him saving Al, the scene between Winry and Riza. Pretty awesome.

Great episode they managed to put the past in a very compact way with explaining all the main points of it and IMO it might even be better put in picture than the original!

Liked the global story behind it quite compact quite good pas speed of the story and just the great FMA feeling to it!

Up to the next episode! Seems we'll be seeing the episode where the original started!

they manage to speed things out without making it rush or so :P

the animation outside their house when they're about to perform the transmutation is freaking amazing!

showed how Ed and Al tried to transmute her mother.

Ed talking to "The Truth" which they didn't give an entity in the first season.

did he learn how to transmutate because of that??

they didn't explain that much in the first season but it's probably the same.

Roy Mustang and Riza as well as the old lady saw the transmuted circle.

her mother looks more disturbing O_____O

Winry talking to Riza at the beginning is much more fitting than they meeting towards the end.

wow Ed look like a broken mess there compared to the first season.

it seems Ed and Al went straight ahead to Izumi and studied with her without needing to go to Hughes(funny thing is Hughes first met Ed in the first episode).

and wow Ed vs King Bradley face to face!!

as soon as Ed drew the lance to his face King Bradley already drew his sword in an instant O__O

King Bradley seems to be more dangerous this time around :P

so he does recieve the "Fullmetal Alchemist" title from him just like in the first season :P

it seems they're cutting alot of fillers this time around which is understandable since they want to go straight to the point.

now we're off to Liore :)

amazing episode :)

pretty good, but it REALLY RUSHED the details of Edward's PAST. I feel this episode coulda been split into 2-3 episodes lol. Lots of DETAILS like training with Izumi, the Alchemy test, and the letters from Edward's dad to Mustang, etc....... that were shown in the Original were breezed through or overlooked. Once again, It's a darn good thing i saw the Original. So i'm not lost at all.
