Had been waiting till the thread calmed down to post, so here i go

Overall i'm not really looking forward to the second season. Having watched the entire first season and it left too much to be desired of. The Aincrad arc in particular, was such a huge mess filled up almost entirely by completely disjointed and disconnected episodes that made me feel as if i missed few episodes in between. Most of the side characters were either weak, uninteresting, or simply pointless plot-wise, since the show never seemed to be able to develop them properly and instead throw them away once the purpoe they're written already done off. What's more infuriating is how stupid the conlusion of such arc was written. It completely broke its own established rule and turned the hero Kirito into God-mode to finish off the seemingly unbeatable GM, for the reason that the show didn't ever bother to adress. It's one of the most narratively flawed conclusion i've ever seen in anime (the other one being Chaos;Head and Blood-C). Though to be honest, i burst into heavy laughter once the main antagonist, the creator of the game itself, forgot as to why he started out the entire crap to begin with. A really laughable villain which was probably similar with those on scooby-doo.

The second arc (Fairy Dance) IMO was a pretty significant improvement from the first. More coherent storyline, more reasonable world building, and perhaps i'm just a sucker for Fairy species. What's troubling me the most though, is how easily they degrade Asuna from a badass heroine into mere damsel in distress. It's annoying. It sucks. And it practically renders her character development during first arc (assuming she actually develops during such arc) meaningless. some stupid my-not-actually-little sister-want-to-bang-me which i find tasteless in most anime, turned out to be the strongest flavor here. And again, its conclusion, by unrealistically having Kirito bend the law of the game itself to defeat the final boss, was extremely silly and once again provided a cheap laugh for me. But eh~ overall the show was entertaining if you turned your brain off completely (Err~ Was i really that shallow?)

Anyway, i'm probably going to consider watching the second season if :

1) No stupid Deus ex Machina that break the game's established rule for no apparent reason aside from making Kirito look even more badass
2) No random girl popping out and fall for Kirito only to ends up being friendzoned
3) No cartoonish villain that do evil thing for extremely silly/shallow reason

And nobody's forcing you to pay attention to them.

The reason why the shitstorm looked very glorious was because most people pay more attention to haters and trolls instead of focusing more into people who genuinely intend to discuss the show. No matter what kind of crap they spew on the show you like, so long as they don't personally attack you, what's with the hard feeling over it?

I think I'm more excited to see the controversy surrounding each week's episode discussion than I am to see the second season itself. Still, for some reason my heart started racing when I first saw this news. Actually looking forward to it more than common sense should dictate.

I was expecting it to air during the summer season to be honest...
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Everyone in GGO use guns, Kirito use swords and that works for him.

Augh! I loved SAO so much when I first watched it. (Despite the corny romantic plotline etc etc.) I watched the "episode" yesterday and I love how they ended it. I thought it was going to be a one-off thing, but I'm really, really glad that there's another series coming out for it.

...tbh I just really like it for the art wahhhh.

All of my '^this'.

They should have taken the first whole season to do the Aincrad arc.

A lot of people would be surprised but SAO's novel feel closer to Bakemonogatari in term of character development than your usual shounen. I'm not kidding when I say that three quarter of every single books is about inner thoughts of the characters.

NO NO NO NO
Monogatari's char development is WAY different(and better) than SAO's(any volume).
Yes it does a better job than shounen like Naruto,FT and Bleach but Monogatari? No.

Sigh, calm your fanboy hormones for a second and read the sentence again.

"SAO's novel feel closer to Bakemonogatari in term of character development than your usual shounen"
>feel closer
>never said it was exactly like it nor one of them was superior to the other.

I also think that -monogatari novels are better than Sword Art Online novels. My point is that the way the character thoughts are emphasied a lot in the SAO novels make it closer to a work like -monogatari instead of a badly written shounen with a emo character that got a harem just like the anime made it seems.

It's been a while since I've watched an anime that has a really OP MC since Beelzebub or Mondaiji. It's only something in an anime that can give me the chills. In the end it all comes down to your tastes.

SAO's first season was my gateway to watching a lot of anime's and since then I've come to realize its flaws and decided to drop its rating to somewhat more realistic and 'friendly' to the MAL community, though it's an anime that will always have a place in my favourites.

At the time it was a really darn of an awesome show when you've barely recognized the different flavours of anime but after watching a few more really good romance anime, like Chihayafuru, I could not help but cringe when re-watching SAO and how they dumbed down Asuna role so bad in the second arc.

THOUGH despite all that, you can't ignore the fact that it was a really enjoyable anime. ESPECIALLY if you are a newcomer and had only been watching 'The Big Three'.

The source I got from is actually a summary of someone who read the web novel in Japanese before Kawahara took down it due to licensing problems. Currently LN vol 13 which is dividing, is still very very far from the very end of Alicization.

Well definitely if I conclude Alicization as a whole, it's way better than the four other arcs since it has heckload of sources to back up with (from LN vol.9, could be written all the way till vol.18).

If given more opportunity to expand GGO or SAO arc, I think it would be also great.

Whoa, that long? That would be a pain to turn into an anime.
But yeah, I actually thought the end of Turning meant that the arc was nearing its conclusion, but damn. Maybe this is what the author originally planned to write, and the past arcs were experiments or something.

Well if the author decided to drop the OP/somewhat senseless crap after the Administrator arc, it would be quite short, maybe till volume 15.

Cause from what I gathered in the summary of the web novel (spoilers to the max, not even reading Dividing which is LN vol 13 could help. but i may remember wrongly, but this is how the story goes after that)

As I said it's web novel which was removed later. Not from the light novel. The story may or may not change depending on how they end off the Administrator arc . And serious why Infinite Stratos do this shit too when it was like more of a harem show.

Err... Let's resume.
Removing inner dialogue, focusing on important points, focusing on flashy things, ecchi things, and the main character, extra episode that is crappy and doesn't makes sense, 8-9 LN volumes in a 24 episode series so about 3 episodes per volume...

Yep, yep. That's about what every single LN adapted gets served. Except that most of them never get 24 episode, let alone a second season.
Stop complaining, SAO doesn't have it half as bad as some other LN adapted. And that's definitely not "A-1 style". LN that didn't get served this during their anime adaptation are only the lucky one.

I liked the first few episodes of Sword Art Online so I'll give it a watch in hopes that it doesn't depreciate in value as the anime continues. And I really hope Kiritio doesn't break the game again via the power of love or some ridiculous junk like that. Also, I want to see other supporting characters receive some more screen time, it's like they get introduced in one episode and then we rarely see them again.

you know, I loved the SAO in both anime and LN, and don't have any problems with it, but reading this I can't help but laugh and kind of agree with you

Nevertheless, SAO anime was great, and I expect the next season will be just as great and illogical :) cuz anime logic

how's the writing on this "GGO" thing ??
is it gonna be better, stagnant, or even worse ??
please don't tell me there will be any damsel in distress, and over-excessive amount of romance bullshit

I can't quite believe that some of you honestly thought that the commercially most successful series of 2013 along with Attack on titan, wouldn't receive a sequel. Regardless of your personal opinion of the show, that is an extremely naive assumption to make.
