I absolutely died during the early part of this episode with the whole "take responsibility" mix-up and Mikage's reaction to it. Classic Tokiwa. Just classic.

Pork Bowl.... you will be missed. TωT

This episode was so sad, but very realistic and I liked that. I was hoping Hachiken was gonna buy Pork Bowl alive, but I'm happy with how it all ended (besides Pork Bowl dying; but I knew it was bound to happen and the way he went was as good as it could have ever been).

I loved the bgm too!!

And so ends Butadon's life :(

I never think about the meat I eat before it ends up on my plate but man this show is making me take a long hard look.

I'm still gonna enjoy the heck out of my being a proud carnivore though
I'm Bruneian and I like anime. And Manchester United. And fat cats.

That's so not fair, I'm in tears here and he's enjoying his butadon. I hate this so much! He could have at least saved that one pig but unfortunately for him taste matters more than having a friend :/

I could never do that to my pet chickens that's why I stopped eating meat. Poor butadon was betrayed by Hachiken T^T

What a touching episode, the series built up to this moment and it delivered so hard, all of my feels.

Hachiken being able to buy the meat and then process it made me smile, bittersweet goodbye to Pork Bowl, you were awesome... and definitely tasty.

The rest of the episode was fine, albeit I ddin't like how easily he just started eating pork bowl - not when every other time he's eaten fucking anything he's made a massive deal about his first bite. Then this time he doesn't seem to give a shit. It's inconsistent with his character and ruined anything meaningful about him maturing or eating pork bowl.[/quote]

I agree with this. I cried so hard I had to run for the tissues and got the crying headache. I was hoping for more of an emotional send off from Hachiken...tearful farewell or his heart clenching with something akin to betrayal esp after Pork Bowl snubbed him as he was led onto the truck... or maybe a moment of silence or a prayer for his soul and the other pigs before eating in a solemn fashion. I was really surprised how easily he shared with everyone too!

I made sure to have a vegetarian meal ready for watching this episode lol. No one else has really mentioned if they are veg on here but I was vegetarian for a couple years once until the cravings overwhelmed me (damn bacon! ;_;)....no more red meat or most dairy bc it was hard to go back 100%. This anime is really getting me thinking about going back tho bc these characters are very stoic about all this... I know I would never be able to do the raising and killing without getting attached and naming them all and wanting to have my own farm lol. That's why I really liked that one quote in this episode about reevaluating things u took for granted....very thought provoking!

The video they all watched was tough bc it reminded me of real life ones I watched before.. I'd be sitting with a box of tissues at my desk slumped over like Aikawa if I was in that class lol

I do like how this anime shows that they take proper care and respect of the animals from beginning to end as it's not always the case in RL.

I hope things progress with Mikage and Hachiken tho! They are good for each other! <3

I wonder if Mikage has feelings for Hachiken based on her reaction to hearing that rumor.

"I raised this pig from its birth to its death, but the meat is good so I'm going to eat it without even shedding a tear."

What an unlikable protagonist... I'm not a vegan, but this show totally failed to address the difficult question of killing and eating animals, imo.
But well, the meat is "so gooood", so who cares about the feelings, huh?

Congrats. You managed to miss the message of this anime. What you said is just like those vegans who act like they are holier than meat eaters.
You don't have the same view about foods as us,Asians. With us, we eat what we can find but we also respect the foods by not letting anything got wasted. Eating is respecting life itself and the lives of the animals we ate became a part of us. Not eating Pork Bowl meaning your are disrespecting life and Pork Bowl itself. You are disrespecting the people that raised the pigs. You are disrespecting the farmers.
Hachiken didn't raise it as a pet and the teacher also didn't allow him to see it as pet. Since the he knew that it would be slaughtered. He is at a farming school and with farmers, there is no wasting meat.
Hachiken himself doesn't have the money and facility to keep the pig anyway.

I'm Asian too -_- Also have you ever heard of Hinduism, Buddhism or maybe Jainism before you start preaching about how eating animals is respecting them?

An excellent and surprisingly emotional episode, felt more emotional to it now than the previous times I saw this episode for some reason, but seeing Hachiken's characterization here feels so satisfying and fascinating to watch as usual and Pork Bowl will be missed.

I really loved this episode. I almost cried when Hachiken couldn't lift Butadon anymore because it was not as small and light as when Hachiken took care of it at first. It was touching when Hachiken bought it as a meat, prepared it himself and served it as a Pork Bowl to be shared :")

I really want to eat beef yakiniku now...
