Wow, that was pretty intense... Makes me want to become good at pool just because.

That old man was something else, and a twist at the end. Was not expecting that...

This was an interesting watch it was like Kaiji meets Jigoku Shoujo! I know it's a training project but i really hope they continue this a bit further someday.

That was intense! I was asking myself how are they going to stuff a good story from this premise in 24 min at the beginning, but that didn't felt like 24 min at all! Didn't expect such a good fight scene either! Good fight!

The smirk at the end, I really wonder where he went! He wasn't really a bad person(it only showed that he's a bully), right? But he went in the elevator with the demon on top, I do think he went to hell....Why the bartender didn't tell us? :I

Going by what the bartender said. Its left up to how the viewer interprets it what happens.

But it seems the old man went to hell.

I liked this...a lot.

The last bit of dialogue where the younger guy went off on a tangent about how lives are different but that's what it means to live and why would anyone try to classify us as being similar has really resonated with me.

Some of those character designs (the bartender), how very Saraiya Goyou of them, I dig it.

I'll rewatch this in that gg release in a little while.
Edit: Ok done that.
Echoing what others have said, this could have been awesome to have a few more episodes or something.
Ended up going into my extended favs.

It seems most things point towards the young guy going towards heaven and the old guy going to hell.

If we look at their lives, the old man was beating people back in high school and the 'smirk' at the end. Sure, the younger guy cheated on his girlfriend but atleast he regretted it(unlike the old guy).
Not to mention the faces that where shown above the elevator.

Yeah the signs point that the young guy went to heaven and the old guy went to hell.

Oh the irony though because the young guy looked absolutely defeated in comparison to the old man.
Heh, you have to ask yourself who the true "winner" is in this case.

It's two of my favorite things right in the title: Death and Pool.

Dug the bartenders as well.

Anybody know of any other pool anime?

This was definitely a lot more awesome than I originally thought it'd be. Glad to see that the old man was such a badass and even if he really was the one who got sent to hell, I'm sure he'd handle it like a boss.

It worked for Trapeze, so I reckon it should work for this type of show, too.

I believe the old man wanted to go to hell. He seemed like the kind of guy who would have fun there. Maybe he requested to go to hell?

What the younger guy said really touched me on how people aren't equal. I'm surprised to find such better values in a 24 minute episode than a 24 episode series.

I like little loli girls with broomsticks as much as the next guy, but I prefer my anime to have a little more depth and badass jii-sans are always welcome. There is hope yet for the anime industry, good on you Madhouse 9/10.

That was really good. And kudos to Madhouse for the nice animation! The setting was really interesting and the characters are not boring. Although, I really wanted to know where did they end up since that old man smirked before the elevator closed. Btw, that old man is awesome.

It woulden't work as a full series I think though.

the 'reveals' and 'mystery' where part of what made it so good. Maybe a few OVA"s to reveal some about how exactly it works, but 13+ episodes just would not be as good.

Really cool aesthetics especially bar and pool table area. The concept itself seems to make it work only as a one shot. It'd be hard to imagine this as a movie or tv series.

I like the grounded dark fantasy this had with the bar owner and woman. Those corpses were pretty creepy and the game itself is sick too. Just used this comparison recently but has some similarities with Catherine, a game made by Atlus

That was amazing, loved everything about this. But you know it filled me with agony with how they pretended they were going to explain everything at the end. I desire to know as much fun as guessing is. xD But yes, I feel like the older man is the one who went to hell but he had his last bit of fun out of it all. That fight was pretty sweet.

whoa. it thought it would be an average special with a shitty animation, but damn, i was so wrong. the animation and colors were so great and i also liked the atmosphere and the story.

the only thing that bothers me is that apparently no one knows for sure what the old man was saying.

I'm honestly a little confused here. The female bartender doesn't seem to know who went where, so were the faces above the elevator doors just meaningless decoration?

I was wondering about the same thing..

Madhouse has overshot my expectations and I am perfectly fine with that. Wow. I am going to have to watch that again someday because it was simply amazing. No other way to get around it.
Definitely the best out of the Young Animator Project too, by far. The characters, the story, the art, how they did flashbacks... nothing went wrong.
Solid 9/10 for me.

I liked it a lot. I could definitely see this as a 6-8 episode OVA with different people playing the games and either coming to terms with their lives and realizing the bad things they have done and regretting them and moving on or those not coming to terms with their pasts and going to hell for it.

"Better to reign in Hell..."

The old guy was clearly a dominant, confident personality, so being a mere person in Heaven wouldn't suit him. He had no regrets.

The younger guy was a flawed and cowardly guy, so going to Heaven is perfect. Still wasn't a blessing to him, just a lesser curse as he obviously has many regrets.

This was astounding, I can see a lot of thought was put into this. The entire scene with the man's speech and the hug from the bartender afterwards, really hit me. I also loved the ambiguous ending as I think deciding who went where will really say something about the viewer.

This is the best thing I've seen this year, would kill for a series.

Was the scene at the end where the bartender was holding the 2 balls with hearts on it (i think) important? Maybe I'm just looking into it or something.

Either way I really liked it. I saw Little Witch Academia right before it which was also good, but this had e thinking and was more original (not to mention LWA was very cliche and predictable).
