Great movie 9/10. I missed a final kiss though ><. And it kind of leaves the viewer wondering what will happen in the future.

truly one of the most transcendent and beautiful films i've ever seen!!! it so perfectly captures the fragility and impermanence of our best moments in life....................... something we don't appreciate in the now can be taken away in the blink of an eye - definitely cried tons during this wonderful film.........i'd recommend this to anyone who loves great film or art........................

one of the best movies I have ever seen.

But I did have one question, Did she ever see him again? TT.TT
but isn't that the point of the movie: the impermanence of the moment that we must treasure? i think the ending was frustrating because you definitely want to see them together, but it does fit in with the underlying theme of the film..........

Ahh what can I say loved it, loved it

I whelmed up been near crying on two occasions once because I was so happy and thats never happened before.

Only thing I disliked was that Chiaki left.

I'd rate it 9.9/10, I never give 10's.

Will I like this if I thought Summer Wars blow and the Digimon Movie was meh? Well this is an adaptation so as long as the original material is good then it should be fine.

Okay, just saw it. Good movie, I give it a 8-8.5. Difinitely better than Summer Wars but mostly because Makoto's personality is so damn likable, like shoujo heroines done right.

Tons of unanswered questions, but I guess it's intentional. Also some plot holes, I guess. But overall I can feel the emotion behind it, so it's good for me.

8.5/10 --> 9/10

Can be better but it's already awesome. Too bad I am not fond of open ending.

Ah excellent movie~
Great directing, plot, and sound. And that last time leap, the best scene in the movie.... was so breathtaking!
Too bad I just got around to watch it, even though I had this sitting in HDD for years. Definitely recommending to anyone that haven't watched it.

Would it have killed them to put some details into on the characters? Half the time they don't even have fucking faces.

Some of the backgrounds look painted, while others look digital.

I must say that Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo was best anime movie I've watched so far.
(Most of my anime movies are One Piece related)

Madhouse Studios, always in great anime shows. Looks like in movies too <3
Art was good, story was great (Even there was little things that wasn't answered) and great characters.

Same scenes all the time (Well, it was time leapt so I was waiting for this)

Makoto was starting become more selfish and more everytime she leapt through time, hopefully she finally understand what she really wanted to do...

Hmm.. ending was little boring, but still I enjoyed to watch it <3

Well, I finally got around watching this and thought the movie was performed quite well. Although it's not on my top 10 movie list, it definitely had a good pace and everything seemed to fit together well. This movie definitely made up my weekend along with Fate/Zero and Dusk Maiden of Amnesia this week :P

Damn, if I had the power of time travel, the things I'd do...

I liked the movie, but I have to give it a lower score due to the plot holes and a few unreasonable actions.
Makoto was obviously a nice character, her personality was great.
I would have really liked the movie if it had gone on a somewhat different route at the point when Kousuke and Kaho got hit by the train. Until that point I would have given it at least an 8, it was really well done.

So like this I will give it an 7, it was a good watch, but I would have liked some kind of a different ending.

This is really nice to watch right after you finish another time travel series like Steins;Gate.

Really nice movie. Not perfect, but deserves a 9/10 from me.

Too many plot holes and unanswered questions! Main reason why it loses 1 point from me.

Also, the anime uses a lot of scenes that waste time. For example, the scene where she is running to meet Chiaki. That took like 20 seconds of her panting and running. It was a bit unnecessary.

Amazing film, was more impressive than 5 Centimeters Per Second to me, due to the great mixture of comedy and drama. The story flowed well without any wasted scenes. All those repeated scenes served their purpose in establishing the implications of time travel. The ending was a bit unsatisfying, would've liked to see her time leap one more time into the future; still great though.

Why do people like this so much? None of the characters were given personalities, none of their motives were explained. I have never seen a plot with more holes and unexplained events in it. At most it deserves a 6/10 because it was at least mildly entertaining.

At the very least the protagonist has clear personality, and I would say that her two chums have shown good personality too. I also think that we can tell their motives from the movie. As for " never seen a plot with more holes and unexplained events" it is gross exaggeration and you know it. Not to say it does not have holes or unexplained events but it is not as bad as you seem to claim it is.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

The main character is awkward, nothing else about her is revealed. Her friends are given the same level of detail. I am not exaggerating on the plot hole point, so many things go unexplained.

For example: How does Chiaki know that Makoto is time leaping? Why does Chiaki like the painting so much? Who is Makoto's aunt? Why does the ending make no sense? Why doesn't Chiaki leap back to before he lost the device? Who wrote the message on the board? Why is the door in the lab locked?

^ It seems you just want everything to be revealed and explained and in that case I don't think you will get what you want. For example, the main characters may be awkward but it focuses on their relationship and how the heroine changes her view about it and herself over time, and that is the important part. We do not need to dig deep on everything about her background. In fact one would say that it is more realistic for a character to be portrayed this way.

As for plot hole, there are things that were deliberated left unexplained. The message on the board is one. And we do not need to know all the back story about why that painting matters so much to Chiaki. And I would imagine that Chiaki having lost the time travel device made some investigation and found out Makoto had it. Makoto's aunt also hinted that she got time leap power and that is good enough for us to know (of course those who are old fans of the novel that inspired this movie can tell that the aunt is actually the heroine in the novel). As for ending making no sense, I would like to hear you explain why.

Except that it doesn't, she just randomly starts liking Chiaki despite liking the other guy for longer.

Why don't we need to know the backstory? How is Chiaki's reason for coming to the past not relevant? The ending makes no sense because he should have come back using time travel immediately, there was no need to wait since by using time travel he could disappear and then come back straight away.

There are hints of her caring both and so it is not obvious that she likes the other guy more except that she seems to like him in an more apparent manner.

My question is why do we need to know all the backstory? None of the backstory is needed to understand the movie. Chiaki already stated his reason is to see a painting that is destroyed in his world. Why is that not enough?

As for the ending, I am not sure what you mean "he should have come back using time travel immediately". It is not as if his time travel ability is unlimited.

The aunty flat out says that she remembers her liking the guy, therefore she must have done something to make her think that.

Because it doesn't make sense, how does he even know that the painting exists?

When he arrived back in the future he could have bought another pebble and returned to see her again. Also, don't say that the pebbles are too expensive to buy because otherwise he wouldn't have wasted money to see a painting.
