But I get the following message:
This payment is not possible.
Your PayPal account is registered in a country where automatic payments are not allowed. Please go back to the dealer and choose a different payment method.

weird thing #1. When selecting PayPal as payment method it took me to the Japanese site, sadly I can't read Japanese at all.....
The Note says : "The paypal payment user is required to cancel the MAL Supporter before switching the plan." (FAQ - About Paypal Payment)
but there's no satisfactory explanation for this on the FAQ.

Well RIP me. I was so excited for the news and I'm still happy, but at the same time I'm so sad because even though I have the money and I'd like to support MAL, I can't... T-T

Same here. As I read the news I was happy that I now can support the side, without credits cards, that are uncommon, to pay with in our country, but then I saw this text pop up at the checkout. -_-
I hope a sulotion can be found for this problem.

Sorry, your PayPal account is registered in a country that doesn’t allow automatic payments. Please return to the merchant and choose another way to pay.

Kineta said:We are excited to announce the immediate availability of PayPal as a payment gateway for our MAL Supporter plan. Since its release, we have heard a continuous stream of requests for this payment option. After much effort and planning, it's now ready for your use.
With the numerous forum posts and private messages asking specifically for PayPal to be added, we hope this will enable more of our generous community to support MAL's continued development. I always feel a little boost of encouragement when I see custom forum titles in threads or the Supporter badges on profiles.
Thank you for your continued support! And please let us know if you run into any issues with the new functionality.
Dear @Kineta,
I got the same issue as Roy (and some of the mentioned), actually I was also one of those who requested Paypal as a payment method.
(As I assume, we probably aren't the only ones' with this issue.)
When I choose one out of both options to become a MAL supporter, I get the message that I need to add a credit card to my paypal account.
I don't have a credit card, otherwise I wouldn't have requested the Paypal method. :P
Can you please change the settings for paying with Paypal? I'm also able to pay other sites, online shops, etc. with Paypal - so I guess it is possible.
I know it might be more paper chase. You're probably running the supporter plans on an automated system - with auto cancelling of the supporter plan, if someone does not pay the fee again. I could imagine that at least. Nothing wrong with that.
For example you could (or of course the person who is responsible for this) add an one-year payment - only for one year - without a recurring payment request.
After this year, or before the subscription year ends, you could set a reminder (mail) to sent out to the users. To tell them that they might want to pay for another year, before their supporter plan is cancelled.
Might cause more traffic. To minimize the added traffic you could add this payment method on the same site, but only make it accessable by scrolling down the site? For example, with a link to an other MAL site (for the one year subscription) saying something like that in the link text: "You're interested in becoming a MAL supporter, but the Paypal payment doesn't work for you, because of not having a credit card or because of restrictions of your country for automated payments? Try our one year subscription! No credit card needed! No recurring payment methods!"
Anyway, I think it is worth the added possibility. When there are customers who are willed to pay, you should make it as easy for them to pay the money to you. To quote an article of the business insider "15 of the 30 richest countries in the world are in Europe". Credit card payment is although by far not that common as it is for example in the US. I can confirm that, due to living in Europe, Switzerland. We also often pay by card (directly debiting the bank account) in our home countries, but credit cards aren't usually needed and they usually cost extra money to keep, too. Might be one of the reasons why it isn't that common in Europe. I also think European people are more sensitive about the topic of possibly getting into debt.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I'd subscribe because of being interested in supporting this site, because you're adding your little part to improve the actual situation of the anime industry difficulties - by working together with Crunchyroll for example. There are many anime and manga interested people all over the world as you know for sure by using this site. But not many anime are accessible (without big costs) outside of Japan. It seems so at least from Europe. There are many sites pirating anime episodes and many people use these sites, because of lack of possibilities which are affordable. (Or lack of knowledge about it.) Probably most of them are people who're going to school or are studying. Of course, there are also some who only pirate because it doesn't cost anything for them, but everyone who really likes anime and at least cares a little about the future development of the industry, might reconsider using such sites if there were other affordable possibilities and would know about these and also if they knew which damage it does to the industry to use the illegal streaming sites (or torrents).
Another great thing would be if all the seasonal anime would be accessible from one source (I'd prefer crunchyroll - or MAL of course :P) with subtitles and not from different ones'. (Crunchyroll, Daisuki, Netflix, Wakanim, Anime Serien, Youtube, Viki, Funimation,...)
If someone is interested in watching more than one series per season and these say "two series" are only available from two different official sources by paying for both sites, they are less likely to subscribe to any of them. I wander from the subject,... Just trying to raise awareness and trying to think about possible ways for problem-solving.
What I intended to say was, I'm interested in the supporter plan because of being interested in supporting the anime industry, not really because of the premium extras. (Although, I might try the optional features - but I really don't need them and because of these I, at least, wouldn't subscribe.)
For some others these extras might be something great and worth to buy, I guess. ;)
All of this might sound like a complaint, but it isn't intended to be one. I'm actually happy that you're working together with Crunchyroll, for example.
Keep up your efforts!
Forgotten_Memo said:Ah that's great. PayPal is so much more convenient for me.
By the way, are there any plans to allow gifting MAL supporter plans to other users? Such a feature would be great for giving meaningful rewards in club competitions or gifts to close MAL friends and would also allow members to further support the site.
I totally agree on that! Although, I think a one-time payment would be preferred for such gifts, too. |
