I wish sites would make it more obvious what the sub is.

Good. Except for the boring office parts.

Not much happened..

Junior high school girls committing suicide, falling off an old building and there were no suicidal notes or any indications of murder found on-site. At the same time, there was also no reason or logic as to why these girls did so.

Anyhow, this movie is more of a slice of life drama with strong supernatural elements rather than what I had expected. It is also a TYPE-MOON production in which the characters also appear elsewhere, not mentioning that the atmosphere and location also appear in other places. The animation is top-notch.

Pretty good.

Good thing I'm playing Tsukihime right now otherwise I wouldn't understand the Mystic Eyes.

Yeah yeah...

Story is good, not really great. But this is a kind of non-chronological series portrayed in the movie so it's kinda confusing.

9/10 for the great Characters, Animation and Sounds... :D

Also Shiki blushes is moe... XD

I give it a 9/10. Good action, and the animation was awesome. I liked the feeling of the old buildings. Creepy....

The characters are great.

I like how Shiki was in the end. Kinda cute

Okay...This was a total disappointment

Animation and sound were excellent, but everything else was just boring...
Since I haven't read the novels and it seems that the rating goes up I while give it a chance up to the 3rd movie.

to be honest, I have a problem with rating this movie. I haven't read the novel, since it's unavailable in English (at least as a whole) from what I know. so, the story itself maybe wasn't that confusing, but I had this feeling I'm missing something. still, it was enjoyable and I really liked the art, sound and characters. I guess it's something along 8-/10 for me.

I'm with you. I enjoyed the OVA but it was a bit confusing. I didn't even know there was a novel as this was just a recommedation to me. I still liked it even though I know I missed a lot. 7/10

Very nice introduction and overall above average in all departments. The only thing I didn't like was how confusing it was at first... since I haven't read the light novels yet. The characters definitely seem to be interesting as well as the story. 8/10

I set aside an hour for myself this afternoon and finally watched this movie after constantly teasing myself with AMVs and MADs. For the first movie of the series, I was really impressed! The animation is gorgeous. I kind of find it pathetic that that I got excited over something as simple as Shiki moving her new prosthetic arm. That's what I get for loving the art of animation so much. The voice acting is top notch as well. I especially liked Takako Honda's performance as Touko. Her voice didn't have that "anime seiyuu" kind of sound to it, so it made the character sound more realistic. I was able to understand the philosophies and theories of the novel a little more as I watched this movie, but I'm not going to wait until all the novels come out to watch all the movies. This was a great way to set up the series, since it left more questions than answers and it'll leave the viewer wanting more. 8/10.

P.S. Was anyone else bothered by how Shiki lived in this movie? I know she's not real, but the fact that she lived on mostly water concerned me.

Why are people bitching about the Häagen-Dasz product placement but don't mention the fridge full of volvic water bottles? o.o
Hm. Mysterious. =D

Animation and sound were beautiful (oh, nothing new...), but the story seemed to lack something in my eyes, and the whole philosophy talk was not quite my cup of tea because it was a bit wishy-washy in my view...

So it's 8/10 for me, because it still impressed me despite what I pointed out above. :3

That was really interesting.

The characters were perfect and expertly laid out. The story was deep and filled with lots of beautiful quotes. But the best and most beautiful thing was the graphics. Although you could sometimes see the layover between the drawing and the computer animation it was with out a doubt still a masterpiece.

I regret waiting so long to watch it.
So lovey, I am touched.

Although I still only gave it an 8/10

All style, no substance, probably because it was too short. I believe there are already two constructive critics on this movie in this topic so I won't add anything more.

I hope it gets more enjoyable by the next movie.

You know when you're reading a book and you catch yourself not actually reading, but starring at the words. This is the first time that has happened to me with an anime. I still remember what happened, but at the same time I feel like I didn't watch it.

ooooook...can anyone help me to understand this?as i got it,those ghosts that fly around the floating girl are the ghosts of people that died a long time ago.so...why did shiki say that the murders will stop after 8th?i mean, what does the number of ghosts flying around the girl that makes them fall have to do with how much people will she make to fall?and another thing...what was the matter with that boy mikiya?
edit:ok,now i'm even more confused-at the end touko says that 8 ghosts of the girls who commited suicide were flying around her...THEN HOW COULD SHIKI SEE 8 GHOSTS IN THE SKY AFTER 5TH MURDER?furthermore,it is said that kyrie herself was the 8th victim-which means there should be7 girls who commited suicide+kyrie, and not 8+kyrie.but when shiki fought them, there were 8+kyrie.but...if kyrie was the eight victim, that means there was one ghost that didn't die...but back to the beggining...why are there flying ghosts of people that didn't even die?

It was... wired.
After some time really looking forward to watching this series I found some time for the first movie. At first, I thought it was boring but then... I don't know why but I really enjoyed it. The story was confusing though. The philosophic stuff was understandable but Shiki's prediction of the deaths wasn't. How could there be 8 ghosts after only 5 suicides if, as Touka said in, those were supposed to be the ghosts of the girls who committed suicide? The character development was also quite lacking but as this is only the first movie I'm actually eager to know them better since they were quite intriguing, especially Shiki.
The art, soundtrack and animation were gorgeous. Truly amazing.
But really, about the story. It's not like it was bad, it's more like I was missing something.
It's a 8/10 anyway.

Graphic, music was very good. Especially Shiki's "killer" visions was great but this lines was too long. They went outside the body.
To much philosophical bulsh!t. I love this kind of movies but their just don't fit to this. Even in one episode of Serial Experiments Lain where all episode was about terms etc was better.
And what about this flying/floating things? I don't get this even after Aozaki's explanation.
Maybe original work(book/vn/novel) is better?

btw. don't spoil me but say yes or no, is there any chance that they explain more about Shiki's family and other

Srry, for my English but I'm half asleep ;)
