unfortunately none of the jokes landed for me but it was high energy enough to keep my attention. its looking like the main character of this detective show will play second fiddle to her butler, which is odd but whatever i’m sure she’ll get her time to shine later down the line

I’m meh on this anime since I feel a little lost in the mystery, but I’m hopeful it will be better hopefully I’m going watch at least up to episode 3 and if it’s not my thing I’ll drop it.

I only decided to watch this because the studio is Madhouse, but Miyano, Mamoru being the male protagonist's VA is a very welcome surprise and is enough reason alone for me to continue watching. The main detective duo are an idiotic pair and just watching them make me feel like my brain cells are dying, but whatever, at least they're somewhat entertaining to watch.

WAIT YALL AINT TELL ME THIS HAD A SAWANO OP??!! With a cute female lead?? Bitch you know this top 5 already 😭 I’m a simple man. Nah but this was fun as hell. We’ve had a ton of detective series lately, but I love how this one doesn’t take itself too seriously. Reiko and Kazamatsuri are a riot!

Very fun first case here. I’m really excited to see what the twist is because no way it’s as straight forward as it seems. The girls had beef with Mizuho, but they surely wouldn’t have tried to kill her in broad daylight. I’m thinking either Mizuho staged this or someone else is trying to exploit the situation and put them against each other.

Fucking died laughing watching Reiko and Kazamatsuri use process of elimination on the suspects, most unserious detectives ever man. Of COURSE it’s the Butler who’s actually the best detective in the room. Given he damn near narrated the whole first episode, he surely saw what happened. The suspense is killing me, give me the next ep!

Also, the art style is soooo good. Reiko is pretty af, she slays in her formal dress fit and the detective suit. Get you someone who can do both! I also just peeped the artist for the novels is Nakamura Yusuke who does the art for my fave band, Asian Kung Fu Generation and Tatami Galaxy!

That was surely a Kaito Kid white suit rip off from the inspector!
@Alfyan
And his character design also came from Clayface, from Suicide Squad Isekai.

had a few cameo in 2 other cases and the movie where the mystery was set on a titanic like ship on the way to Singapore

Wait, is she a Sonoko type of character?

I glad you like it.

Have you checked Kowloon Generic Romance tho?
Aside of romance it's also sci-fi and mystery. No idea if it will stay as good as the first episode (apparently they are rushing the abaptation), but so far, so good.

@alshu yes yes let's not forget the Asian street food. Sci-fi aside, it look realistic take on Kowloon, the sci-fi well it hasn't done anything good to better the quality of life but it's very interesting.
The build up reminds me of the romantic back story of Kowloon murder case in kindaichi returns series.

It was ok. Nothing special, but the mystery was interesting enough. I didn't really have any complaints, but also don't really have any compliments. It is Madhouse though, so I will see it to the end.

Looks great, acting's great. Kinda slow though, and not particularly fond of any of the characters.

Yeah, exactly!
Not necessary the same vibe, but a similar [japanese] take.

This anime is more like a J-Drama than an anime. But I think that's exactly what makes it unique and worth a watch.
@TheBerserker I was thinking the exact same, lol. It was a fun premiere, and here's to hoping it'll be able to hold up.

I've only watched half of the episode and I already know that it's not for me, the characters are too irritating and the comedy doesn't work imo.

The overall tone is too silly for the quite serious things that are happening on the screen, and it amuses me (although it wasn't the purpose of this anime) that no one checked the victim's pulse or gave him help, they just assumed he was dead right away xD

Just as I suspect, the main girl will be the butt of jokes. At least she doesn't look like a complete idiot.

First episode was watchable enough, felt like a different type of cheese than you usually get from anime, strong cheesy J-Drama vibes with the exposition delivered through rich girls talking to each other and multiple cartoonish goofs.
@smoothw you are correct. It was a j-drama from 2011, and that was based on the novel from 2007. back then, both novel and drama were highly popular.

Time to rewatch the live action, live action was 40min episodes from memory, anime is half that, I am not holding much hope on it. Plus the actor and actress in the live action is better than the anime characters.

I was waiting for it because I have watched the drama adaptation and I really liked it. But the end of the first episode feels a bit off, like they should have been cut the ep in a more interesting way to make audiences feel more curious of the next ep I guess.
Let's see how the story will flow.

Can anyone help me understand why the rating for this is so low? I had planned on starting this but discouraged after seeing the low rating (I have this urge to finish everything I start so don't wanna start something that I won't finish) :\

That was hilarious, had such a good laugh watching the first episode.

We got another Tatsumi Koutaro XD
It's like Mamo-chan is voicing himself even the character design looks like it's an anime version of Miyano Mamoru XD

Wasn't expecting Sawano Hiroyuki to compose the OP of this type of anime, but it's good as usual, Nakajima Kento's voice sounds great with Sawano's music.

Kazamatsuri and Reiko is such a chaotic duo, kinda makes me wanna ship them XD

But really just how did Kazamatsuri become an Inspector...

I don't know why but I found all the main characters so likable hahah. The seiyuu are really good.

I always love light mystery anime like this. Hopefully it won't suddenly become boring in the middle like one comedy-mystery detective anime that aired last year and before.

Anyway, I guess the culprit is the short-haired one who was crying. She's the only one who isn't wearing the green pendant.

Oh and... damn Kazuya. This is basically a case about the ladies around him right? Lol. His ex, Mai, who seems to have overdosed on sleeping pills. The victim this time is his cousin, Mizuho, who was set up with him. Then there's the crying short haired girl and the girl who just got proposed to xD

Police was contacted after the lawyer found the body. While arriving at the hotel Kaito Kid called Reiko to let her know. Reiko changed her dress and went to the scene. The victim was alive all this time. Take her to the hospital, man.

Also, I thought Mizuho (the victim) was the fiancee at first but she wasn't.

bro the director is making absolute gold out of super limited animation.

Its kind of silly as a mystery, but the butler calling the mc a moron was hilarious and tells me the show is fairly self aware.

Okay, it has a shaky start. The titular character, who seemed classy, doesn't seem to act like a detective. She was not observant enough to notice who this other girl likes.

Her colleague, Kyouichirou is so insufferable.

It looks like her butler functions more like a proper detective.

Instead of a serious detective story, this seems to be slapstick comedy. I'll see if I'll like it after Episode 3. If not, it will receive a low score from me.

From the first episode, I saw that the events were simple and unexciting. The case was very simple and did not call for any excitement or suspense. In addition to the fact that the anime's events moved at a very fast pace and did not reveal any important events, which made us jump to the conclusion that the story writer would just invent a killer out of their head without any specific evidence. At first glance, it may seem that the anime revolves around investigations, but in reality, it focuses on comedy, which definitely detracts from the appeal of its story. I think it is stupid that most of the policemen and investigators do not know about Reiko's dual identity since she doesn't change her name or face or hair color. I hope the situation improves in the coming episodes.

I was curious about this one since it’s made by Madhouse, and it’s actually not that bad. The comedy element caught me off guard, and while this episode’s case doesn’t seem that interesting, I’ll at least finish it before deciding whether to keep watching or drop it.
Also, it’s always nice to see Mamoru back and the character he’s voicing couldn’t be more perfect.

Fictional detective works often maintain a serious tone due to the themes of death, vice, and consequences, but if you enjoy the romantic subplot of the married detective couple that combines solving cases with comedic couple dynamics like bickering and squabbles and balancing their couple goals, then you're gonna go wild for this one! It reminds me of Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime sort of dynamic. I personally prefer the serious type of detective, like L and Edogawa... (there's also Sherlock/Poirot anime, Columbo type character appeared as a nod in some other anime)... and when it comes to comedy for me, it has to be more generic and not focused on couple dynamics.

I have to say that both Reika and her partner are really bad detectives.
So far, the comedy is questionable. They introduced a bunch of characters.
There used to be a series called Death in Paradise. The first couple of seasons weren't bad. The lack of technical resources was easily explained. They don't have them because it's a small island in the middle of the sea. There are only four police officers. Those four people do everything. If you need an examination or something similar, you have to wait a long time because the materials have to fly back and forth. This is how the author explained the lack of technical resources. Is there not a single camera on the floors or in the elevators of such a hotel? What about interviewing witnesses and staff? Who went where and who was where? Most of them have alibis and can name the people they were with at the time of the attack. They didn't even bother to record the time. They started dancing around the testimony...
