This show has some really good looking characters, Yaomei being another example.

Episode's character chemistry is still familiar although I also enjoy watching Reiko and Yaomei together. There's a bit of mystery about Reiko's past as she seems to have no memories of it. It gets even more interesting when it seems a photo connects someone that looks like her and Kudou. Good stuff imo, they're building more into both character stories and the plot itself.

Reiko has made a new friend, Yaomei. She seems reliable and has been a great help to Reiko with matters of the heart. But it makes me wonder why Yaomei went through full-body plastic surgery.

It looks like the current Reiko and the one in the photo are the same. She looks so pretty with those earrings. It’d honestly save a lot of episodes if she just told Hajime how she feels.

That creep at the end gave me chills. I’m wondering if he has some connection to her past or if he suddenly developed an infatuation with Reiko.

Man the other Kujirai is pretty different with how she talks and act.Even if she did lost her memory can her behaviour change that much?

Was wondering why Kudo has a japanese name instead, got that answered. But Reikos and Hebinumas also are japanese names, wonder if that something too.But man that guy really is a hebi/snake huh, also clearly history with Reiko.

Edit:Also guessing there will be no visuals for the ED,more time for scenes which is good for the pace theyre going.

It's neat how "Kujirai A" has a nice little friend group going but it's funny how quickly Xiaohei made peace with the "noise monster" next door.

And man, they made the lemon chicken look way too good. Kudo isn't fooling anyone lol

What an episode, the part that caught my eye the most was when Kujirai A was at her place and all those Kujirai B's were just around her house. That part with the OST playing in the background was perfect. The guy at the end was so weird, like, what's up with his tongue? Is he a snake? Why was he like that? And is Ichika related to him???

Anyways, great episode, I really love the story so far. Next week should be interesting as well.

Much more depressing tone for this week’s Kowloon Generic Romance as Reiko seeks out more info on her past self. Felt really bad for Kudo honestly, having the person you love in front of you physically, but not mentally has to be torture.

Things did turn around at the end thankfully with the two of them making up after that earring bust up earlier in the episode and having honey lemon chicken together!(looks delicious btw). I know Reiko didn’t have anything, but good intentions, but wearing the same earrings as the other Reiko probably wasn’t in the best of taste.

I think it’s funny how even with amnesia or missing memories, we always become who we’re meant to be. So Reiko is naturally drawn to those earrings and thinks they’re cute!

I love Koga Aoi so much, she brings such a fun energy to every character. Yaomay is so fucking pretty I love her already. Just the sort of girlfriend Reiko needs as she deals with this.

What the fuck was that rapey ass anti aging consultation at the end though. The way he said Reiko’s wrinkles had no ages and smiled after he saw her file has me thinking it may be a clone situation rather than amnesia.. if that’s the case, what happened to the OG Reiko 🤔 left this one with even more questions and can’t wait to see what comes next!

When you are so desperate that you trauma dump on the first stranger you have to meet.

So Kujirai A would be the normal voice without much smoking history.
ANd Kujirai B have a...sexier(?) element that Kudo really loved.

If a cosmetic procedure can give those antenna, a ahoge is possible. Sounds nice.

I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m loving it! It’s interesting that the cube in the sky wasn’t there during the flashbacks and also that Kudou was feeding Kujirai’s words back to her. The doctor seems to know something too, it almost sounded like he was implying she was a robot when he said she wasn’t cold. I don’t think a robot would have passed the blood test she took earlier though!

I don't know, but I'm starting to believe that Reiko isn't really Reiko. Kinda like on NieR Automata where everyone is an android, I think she got cloned or something, and that's why she doesn't have any memories from before. The fact that Kudo rejects her but not fully leads me to believe it is the case. There's too much weirdness in this one episode (or maybe I'm watching too much Sci-Fi).

In any case, both Yaomei and Reiko are beautiful. No discussion about that.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

Why would Reiko show Yaomei the photo and tell her the story, even though they just met for the first time? and become friend soon after? just like that?

and Reiko told the doctor she lost her memories, so she always knew she lost her memories but she doesn't know the reason behind it?

and the bartender just leave the job without any notice? maybe he hold the key to all the mystery

This is what I'm thinking since episode one. I think that the thing in the sky is projecting something & keeping an eye on the subjects of such programme. Also, the eye drops that she's using must have something to do with keeping her mind at a certain state. How the doctor talked to her made me feel as if she was dead & he brought her back somehow.
But yeah, this is definitely some kind of the Truman Show.

The fact that her ears aren't pierced must mean that she's not the same person as the Reiko in the photo. A copy? A clone? Someone who got (or was forced into) plastic surgery to look exactly like Reiko and somehow forgot about it?

Yeah, that was strange. Also, "Reko-pon"??

I wonder if this is just awkward writing, awkward adaptation, or an intentionally surreal storytelling. Like, this might not be reality.

This anime's such a little gem! I see now why it's aired on Saturdays (now replacing my Sat go-to Solo Leveling). Anyone who's born in the 80's, 90's or grew up watching Hong Kong kung fu movies would get this nostalgic vibe with the HK backdrop that they did such a great job of! In the beginning I was curious to why the characters' designs have such a 90's vibe ie: hair styles, then a little into the first ep I understood the point is to let us viewers get a taste of that golden HK era now on its way of decline. Even though the main girl's name's still in Japanese but all the environment artwork's done well to represent the old HK vibe. I'm looking forward to learn how the sci-fi part of the story to unfold. Great aesthetics!

@CyanopicaCooki
I definitely agree—but I have to admit, they’re actually doing a decent job of speed-running the story. I honestly expected worse.

That said, I do miss the small moments of mystery they left out. Like the eerie buildup around the strange noises coming from an unknown residence before we find out it’s Yaomei. Or Kudou’s skepticism toward the new pharmaceutical company—how he warned Reiko that no business offers services for free and they were probably collecting data. (Especially sorry to lose this, because
)

It’s not just the nostalgia that’s getting trimmed down, but also that lingering sense of unease. Still, i can’t say that those moments were absolutely necessary.

Very interesting development regarding the city's world building and all the mysteries around MC's past life she forgot, especially how she tries to look the way she allegedly looked before but it seems like it's perturbing Kudou. Also that creepy doctor at the end is very suspicious hmm I wonder what kind of role he'll play in the story.

I think they mean the same sense of nostalgia that the characters in the story feel.

In the manga you really start to feel it along with the characters, because it spends a lot of time exploring the city and enjoying summer with the residents.

There’s a lot of meandering slice of life moments that don’t directly add to the plot, but are good memories that help you understand what makes Kowloon so special to these characters. It’s emotional build up.

OK WTF IS UP WITH THAT MF AT THE END??!!! Creepy af. Uck I hope to not see him again.

Good episode. We got introduced to Yaomei + Xiaohei this ep as friends of Kujirai. Focusing mainly on Kujirai with Yaomei. We got a bit of nice progress as well. He at least ate some lemon chicken with her.

that smile on her face when he admitted it was good was great.

I'm also surprised with how open she's about the whole Kujirai B thing with Kudou with Yaomei but I'm glad she has someone to share things with. Interesting how it seems the dynamic before was reversed with Kudou being the newbie while Kujirai was the senpai showing him around. We also have the disappearance of the guy at that goldfish cafe place. I hope he's safe.

Also with Yaomei saying she had work done on her entire body I wonder if Kujirai has too maybe with that company before? Also gotta say they both are fine af. Love the character designs so far

So does purposely omitting information from the viewer makes it mysterious? Because from my point of view, everyone pretending her past self didn't exist is just a mayor flaw because apparently some people do remember her like the butler. Maybe the spy device in the sky caught on to the inconsistencies and spirited him away.

This has to be a different Kujirai doesn't it. The lack of a piercing, the wrinkles with no history, it all adds up to some kind of clone or copy of the original. The doctor guy is utterly creepy. No clue yet what his purpose is but he is clearly heavily involved in her history. Did he create the present version of her?

As a reader, the pacing does feel rushed but I'm enjoying it as its own seperate thing for now (considering the supposed anime original ending, meaning it won't be the same experience reading as it is watching it, same as the author's other work imho, After the Rain was similar after all. I wonder if Mayuzuki-Sensei personally asked for those changes or if she was strong armed by the studio and director to go with the changes..)

Reiko is now in pursuit of her past self since she really doesn't know her and through that we get a flashback of how she was back in the day. It's truly night and day in her behaviour and personality but copying her looks just won't do much in this situation. Blonde girl is shill though I find it a bit unsettling that she's full of plastic surgery. At least that's minor compared to that last guy. My god, what a creep.
