I love the character and body expressions of this show so far. The main stars seems to be Lilisa and Otoha at the moment but that school they're attending has a vibrant energy vibe. Their chemistry looks fun to watch so far too.

Got to also see some of the instruments featured in the show as it has music as part of its theme. But yeah, I like it this start. Lots of potential imo.

Man, these girls are the literal definition of what japanese people mean when they say “oujosama”. I mean hey, not just their school, their looks, the way they talk, even what they talk about is truly befitting of high standing people lmaoo, except the main girl.. the blonde girl is barely putting up an act. Knew it straightaway, but yeah, I know this one point would make up for a lot of hilarious stuff going forward. These girls will need a lot of effort to prove their point of “being yourself is what matters”, but yeah, I think this show is going to take it easy for now.

As you see, the black-haired girl who oozes the aura of “oujosama” just by breathing had that worst kept secret, and nobody even knows, at least that’s how it felt like, except until Suzonomiya found out. The face-off was hilarious btw, I mean they really went hard and proved they indeed have what it takes to be a “rock lady” lol. Great start imo, and I bet nobody saw the black-haired girl coming off like that in the end lol. Really, there are more girls like them, so will be looking forward to their appearance as well. Still, can they STOP teasing stuff… people, like ever will take the wrong idea xD

Now THIS is what I've been waiting for this season. Easily in my top three most anticipated of the season, for good reasons as well. One being that, well, seeing as GBC landed in my top five of last year, I just KNOW this is gonna be yet another banger like it, so. I mean, off the bat, this has sora of that same feel to it... well kinda.

I mean, obviously the plot isn't ANYTHING like it, I mean here we have Miss Suzunomiya, who legit just a couple of days ago was nothing but a commoner, but here she is now. At a prestigious academy for girls of royalty. A poser, you could say. Who, yeah, under that mask of being a "noble maiden", she's just based asf lol. Like legit mid convo with this other girl she just flat out says in her head "I'm tired as fuck" lmaooo.

Though, so much for that "noble maiden" role, because little does she know that picking up that guitar pick that Miss Kurogane had dropped would spark up something that she's gonna take to the grave. That ofc being, that well, could you guess, THE GIRL'S A ROCKSTAR LOL. But you know, for a second there, she almost left scot-free.... That is all flushed down the drain once Miss Kurogane hits her with the ragebait of the century, and in other words, just flat out calls her shit at guitar for not wanting to play LOL. Who wouldn't fold in that situation, be honest.

So ofc, we gotta see them duke it out on their respected instruments, who yeah, looks like Miss Kurogane wasn't the only undercover rockstar around here, BECAUSE MY GOD ONCE OUR GIRL BREAKS FREE OF THE VINES, SHE FUCKING GOES CRAZYYYYYY. First episode in, and yeah nah these girls are GAY. And really, for a rock anime like this, who else then the GOATS themselves to do a OP, MY FUCKING GOATS BAND-MAID, was just the cherry on top to EASILY PREMIERE OF THE SEASON.

In case you didn't know, BAND-MAID aren't just helping on the OP, all that glorious CG is actually all them. Just wanted to put that out there.

Endorsed by Bocchi the Rock! mangaka Aki Hamaji, this is mangaka Hiroshi Fukuda's coming-of-age music series, and his 2nd anime adaptation since Spring-Summer 2013's Mushibugyou, after more than a decade. Will this be the next Girls Band Cry derivative?

The Oushin Girls' Academy where girls of elegance and top eite brass are only found, the new 1st Year girl of Lilisa Suzunomiya...feels like she's in school being so out of place against many other daughters of high society, following word-of-mouth on the road to become the the highest degree of honour that is the Noble Maiden, ensuring future prosperity for her family. But the chance encounter with the popular school maiden that is Otoha Kurogane, dropping Suzunomiya's handkerchief and what seems to be a guitar pick. The next day in school, Kurogane coming to find that exact guitar pick (which Suzunomiya has it), she's too embarrassed to say anything out of line against the Madonna of the school...that is until she stalks Kurogane to an abandoned school building offsite, only to see her vigorously playing drums from a rather popular band.

Kurogane being pleased that Suzunomiya has her guitar pick to return to, she offers her a free session, though giving away the fact that she played one because she recognized the pick itself. However, Suzunomiya having thrown her hobbies away to focus becoming a Noble Maiden, and not wanting to waste time away playing music, which Kurogane challenged her enough to have a face-off. Needless to say, the musical battle with Suzunomiya on electric guitar and Kurogane on drums respectively (with the realistic 3DCG by Graphinica), it shows the power domination between the two, reigniting a lost love for the former, and for the latter to diss her being not good enough...this IS the real Otoha Kurogane.

WOW, this premiere IS FIRE. Gonna see myself enjoying the heck out of this one.

Not bad at all. Funny start with a good looking animation.

Lilisa <3 Otoha.

This doesn't seem to become one of those dark, overly dramatic band anime we have seen lately. I want to watch something wholesome and more positive this time.

I’ve seen enough. Anime of the season. Lesbian rock band, great music, beautiful art and amazing CGI? Welcome back girls band cry.

Had high expectations since it was announced and first episode surpassed em. Had shades of GBC, BTR, Kaguya-sama, Tensei Ojisan(Suzunomiya having to pretend to be proper all the time) and Kakegurui with Otoha design and degenerate true personality lol. Combining a ton of shows and characters I like into one series is always a sure fire way to make me like a show, plus a story where music is used on a journey of self discovery and exploration is always good.

Lilisa must have felt like she was a bird in a cage with how stuffy and uptight everyone is towards her because of her family name, even her mom acts like a stiff! Has to feel like hell never being able to be yourself or do the things you want to because of the expectations placed on you. She could not have bumped into Otoha at a better time because it looked like she was about to explode!

Speaking of bumping into each other, I know a lesbian awakening when I see one lmao. That meeting scene was so good. Looking forward to seeing our two leads relationship develop! The music sounds great as well, I love Japanese alt rock, kinda get tricot and MOTFD vibes from a few of the songs we heard, can’t wait to hear more! If the 3DCGI is gonna be that well blended throughout, we are eating very good. The way they visualize Otoha’s overwhelming presence when performing is great too. It’s crazy how far CGI’s come!

Very good first episode, excited for more.

The school is a bit exaggerated in setting with what a ojou sama is music wise even if she had to give up music she could have played classical guitar but i guess the author never considered that.
Instrument which the guitar looks like a PRS Stratocaster the ones in the flashback was either a Fender or Squire Telecaster and the amp was clearly a Marshal.
I liked that the showed the finger techniques the main was using Otoha's play style also looks nice.
Both characters have some issues they need to work out tho.

So far the anime is off to a good start, the art direction is really solid and I also like the character designs.
It’s funny to see well-off girls doing rock music in an elite all-girls school. I’m just a bit worried it might get too dramatic between the characters later on especially since the blonde ojou-sama seems to have a complicated backstory with her family.

The anime's okay for now, nothing particularly good. Had a few funny moments, and Lilisa's little sister might actually hate her. Her backstory about her father and whatever happened that made her mother remarry is pretty intriguing.

The CGI hair sucked.

Nah, Otoha definitely had a personality change at the ending for sure. ๐Ÿ˜†

Lilisa and Otoha's school is like Tsukinomori in Bandori series, an upper class all-girls school full of gokigenyous and desuwas, the same school where the Morfonica girls came from.

A strong start to the anime. Its 2D animation is nothing special, but the 3D animation is where it shines. It looks fluid and the motion capture is done by the members of Band Maid. I guess this will scratch my itch for a girls band anime this season, while waiting for the next instalments of Bocchi, Bandori and Girls Band Cry.

the premise is just... yikes

the portrayal of rock is so fcking bad, its like what a 60 yo thinks is rock/metal
rock is not only loud and angry, its emotional and powerful

but hey, there's girl being semi gay (but not really, because author has no balls) so people will eat this shit up

also whoop-de-fucking-doo at these girls being unhappy, i know theyre basically kids, but how unfortunate you must be to have your financial stability basically set for life, really hard life there not worrying about anything besides "waah i cant do everything i want" chumps

production is nice tho, very good... but i dropped the manga and for sure im dropping this... i dont know why i even watched this first episode lmao

@Mikarin_Enjoyer If I got a cent for every time a Western audience applies Western standards to the Japanese market and thinks their favorite title isn't gay "for real" because the creators "don't have balls," I'll be a billionaire real quick. This is a parody of MariMite, it's just as homoerotic as it needs to be for that setting. There was no talk of romance at all. At least not at the time of the translated chapters, lmao. If you're willing to drop this just because it doesn't satisfy your shipping needs in the first episode, then this really isn't your cup of tea.

@hoshimachinova The schools in the anime you mentioned are just your average all-female schools, while this one is a direct parody of traditional all-female Catholic schools. That's the whole point of the main gag when you get a hyper intense female rock band. But yes, it's close to Morphonica and Ave Mujica.

@MadanielFL It seems like girls rock band anime is progressing with each show instead of just being another musical bishoujo show of a certain genre. Which clearly sets them apart from Jpop/idol anime.

Also, why is the online so dead? Is the anime having another problem with licensing on Western resources?

@LostSpectre This is a parody of MariMitte first and foremost. The homoerotic subtext here is part of the setting and the main running gag. There was nothing "real" in the chapters translated so far, except for imaginary yuri BDSM fanservice and light ship baiting. But obviously, I don't know what happens in the manga next, although the anime is moving pretty fast, there are still at least 4-5 volumes ahead. Translated at the moment are 3-4 chapters at most. You get an idea. But considering it's a modern Class S male-focused comedy, I think you can at least safely call it yuri bait.

what a nice surprise! Lilisa trying to fit into that refined all-girls school environment while struggling to hide her passion for rock was super relatable. And when she hears Otoha absolutely killing it on the drums in the old school building? That felt like the moment things really started heating up. The chemistry between these two is promising—especially after that other side of Otoha showed up. I can’t wait to see how their friendship and band (since it looks like two more girls will be joining) develop in the next episodes!

ps: I thought she was going to smash the guitar on the ground and set it on fire lol

In a luxurious school for girls, Lilisa is determined to become a famous lady in her school.

But surprisingly, after her meeting with Otoha, a little flashback of Lilisa revealed that she was actually a true rocker. However, at this moment I was curious about what Lilisa's next actions would be, I would be happy if she returned to being a great guitarist. Also Otoha, she is a charming and elegant girl, I like her drum beats and the moment when she tries to provoke Lilisa.

I look forward to seeing their chemistry in the future, also the whole first episode is really cinema.

Not a bad start. I like how expressive the characters are, and I like Lilisa, she seems fun. Those twintails are... something else. How does she get through doors? She have to get two extra plane tickets for those things?

I am not sold on the CGI, it feels stiff. It's not the worst I've seen but they look plasticky and the actual movement seems pretty limited. They look like action figures, especially with Lilisa's playing.

I'm on board though, I think there's a lot of room for growth, interested to see where it goes. 6/10 with some potential.

What a nice first episode!
The setting (rich girls school) has been done countless times, but somehow I found it to be a pretty refreshing take on it.
The two main characters are interesting, their pasts and personalities are cleverly teased, and the way they interacted, got along but also clashed was amazing. Also, hats off to their VAs for basically playing two characters each, considering how different their voices are whether they're in good girl or bad girl mode.
The music was pretty good (although didn't like some bits of the animation) and so were the yuri vibes.

Perhaps the strongest start this season so far imo :)

@ShiroAlex MariMite inspired the yuri cliches, not the other way around.

@LostSpectre At this point I would compare it to Kakegurui and JoJo in terms of parody homoerotica. But whether it will be something literally real in the future, I don't know. Too much is untranslated. Maybe it's like Kakegurui won't be a full yuri in the literal sense of the word, but will introduce various yuri subplots or characters in response to positive fan reaction. Either way, it clearly has yuri fans as one of its appeals.

This is why I don't like hyperbole and overuse of post-irony. But in the end I just tend to ignore it for the most part, lmao.

Loved, loved, loved the characters, set-up, and music. But that CG is really distracting... I get that motion-capture CG is the only affordable and sustainable way to animate the band sequences, but some 2D sequences or even GBC-level of CG would have pushed this over the edge.

@Mikarin_Enjoyer I do argue too passionately sometimes, but I don't think that simply questioning someone's opinion is in itself the same as trying to have the last word. Especially if it's really about the setting, not trying to bait someone.

I only block people who don't know when to stop or who clearly provoke me into conflict many times. I haven't noticed that with you. But if you can't handle even the most basic clash of opinions, then okay. This is my final answer, I'm not going to argue for the sake of arguing.

So last spring I skipped both of the big all girls music anime that season, being “Girls Band Cry” and “Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night”, and once that season ended I went back for those, and boy did I find out how bad I screwed up lol, GBC in particular I would have loved to watch weekly. So I’m not making that mistake again, I saw a show about prim and proper ladies straight out of “Maria-sama Watches Over Us” playing my beloved rock & roll music, so I’m watching it weekly this time lol, and this was quite the good start. Production seems very nice on this overall, the CGI isn’t amazing but it’s definitely good enough for me, and I like the art style a lot too, the “angry” faces these girls can make look amazing, the designs are nice so far as well, even if Lilisa’s hair is quite wild lol.

But regarding the episode itself, besides the last 5 minutes or so it wasn’t anything that special, it was standard stuff for the first episode of a music anime, you gotta have the main characters meet and whatnot and of course they don’t mesh well at first, but man that personality change with Otoha was something else lol, I’m guessing she gets so in the zone that she loses all composure or something, but I’m ngl I wouldn’t want to speak to her after that myself lol, thankfully Lilisa isn’t me and she won’t take that shit talk sitting down. The backstory stuff between Lilisa and her dad was also really sweet for what little there was of it, I’m sure he was hell of a dad, he did something right in getting Lilisa not just into rock, but playing guitar too.

And if the music Lilisa and Otoha played is any teller of what we’re gonna hear in this show going forward, I think we’re in for a treat, very excited to hear more! And last but not least, was not expecting that Otoha ass and dominatrix fanservice, more of that please lol.

Wtf was that, these two have lots of screw loose๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Rich lady snobbery was so irritating in the first half. And how Lilisa huge twintails are allowed in this strict environment. I hope background characters stop acting like npc all time and few cgi shots during their play was off putting.

Except these very good start. Liked the premise and character. Nice yuri bait aswell. Promising.

The CG is what it is. Looked weird during the performance at times, like it wanted to be 2.5D somehow. Very cool that BAND MAID did the motion capture though.
Anyway, who cares about the CG when you have a storyboard as great as this, full of playing with reflections and such. Watada is truely amazing. ๐Ÿ™‡๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ

I'd be lying if I said the CGI scenes don't bother me, but I can look past that if everything else fits, it wasn't a bad episode, it was pretty nice.

Wow, it's just gorgeous, from the classic yuri trope of girl academy, Maria-sama ga miteru, to the music, to the behavior of the characters especially Otoha, it's a masterpiece.
@ShiroAlex Interesting information, this scene is even hotter in the manga original, although the scene in the adaptation has its cherry on top.
