Man, Lilisa with a guitar really is something lmao

She needs to control her emotions better. The character dynamics between her and Otoha is still so amusing. Their character clash is played out like a battle while emotions runs well. I like how both characters are protrayed as polar opposites. But yeah, Lilisa picking up a guitar again feels like her own character change. OP song is still crazy and catchy lol

I’ve truly seen enough. AOTS. Love my rock lesbians sm. Another amazing episode, but this one was a bit harder to watch than the first because of how Lilisa tries to hide who she really is and what she likes from everyone. Girl, classy ladies can have fun and like rock too tf!

What’s so funny is that even if Lilisa told all the girls in school she loves rock and it helped her learn English, etc., everyone would just praise her and find it amazing because they look up to HER. Just like she and Otoha have a lot in common, I’m sure a lot of the other girls at school have also had their roles thrust on them by parents/family and are looking for an out too. Lilisa and Otoha could totally start a revolution at this school if they were more open with their interests which I’m thinking is probably gonna be the direction we go in. Love a good personal liberation and development series. Otoha’s just what Lilisa needs to really be free.

ALSO LINKIN PARK MENTIONED OTOHA I LOVE YOU. Imagine if they did like how BTR did with the AKFG covers and did LP covers in this show.. I’d die

Ultimately you can’t run from who you are forever. Never in doubt that Lilisa would show up after school to play with Otoha lmao. Can’t wait to see their second “collaboration” next week!

Lilisa getting upset about Otoha talking about their “intimate experience” in front of everyone was funny as well girl it’s too late for that, we all know what y’all are 😂 great episode

So in short, the episode was just about Lilisa hiding from Otoha, who’s trying to pursue her to play instruments together. But instead, Lilisa keeps running around—getting hate from her stepsister, hating herself, Otoha, and wanting to be a proper lady, all for the sake of her mother’s happiness.

But after noticing Otoha’s dedication to drumming, she gets curious and decides to have a rematch.

I’m... okay? Maybe it was fun, can’t really say—but it’d be nice if the story moved on from this cat-and-mouse chase.

It was the cutest way when Otoha asked Lilisa to come back to play with her, but it seems like Lilisa keeps holding back from playing again.

It's great to see Otoha starting to hang out with Lilisa more often, it's like she finally found a friend who is on the same wavelength in music.

I also understand Lilisa's stance and goal more now, becoming a proper Lady is her goal now, and she is willing to sacrifice her pleasure for her family to live a more prosperous life.

Otoha turning into a stalker to get the band member she wants and Lilisa having a hard time.
Well it seems they are getting closer somehow tho.
It also seems like Lilisa has a lot on her plate maybe it's the same for Otoha drums must be a good way for her to relieve the daily frustrations.
With any luck we will start with another session in next episode.

These two interactions are such a delight to watch, so much teasing haha.
We also get to learn a bit more about Lilisa's circumstances, which helps to understand why she refuses to play the guitar so vehemently.
Hoping she'll get along with her new stepsister at some point.
At the end of the episode Lilisa can't resist and join the music session once again, but this time we'll have to wait next week to see the outcome.

A treat to watch, this episode was so much fun, had great characterisation, great voice acting, plus bangers OP and ED themes.

I’m not really interested in a character like Lillisa who is voluntarily imprisoning herself in the cage that is high society. I’m more interested in Otoha doing whatever she wants despite being in the prison of high society.

The self aware Yuri bait is brilliant.

Otoha as girl is carrying so many red flags. But she is passionate and doesn't have regrets. While Lilisa has lots of baggage. Intresting dynamic.

Japanese people speaking English is so weird...

This is really bad. Already by the 2nd episode, one can feel that studio is desperately dragging out the story to fill 20 minute TV playtime, as the scenario lacks sufficient substance. There is no mercy in the post-Garukura era: it's plain obvious that Rock is a Lady's Hobby (and Ave Mujica) are entirely fabricated and farcical assets, offering no lasting value to viewers.

Truly, nobody among the animators had enough courage to speak up and tell the mangaka they'll omit those "Shikanoko XXL sized" blonde antlers from the MC? Scriptwriter didn't have enough common sense to drop the pretend Marimite circus and transfer the story into post-COVID real world? If mangaka doesn't allow all that, then don't animate the story but find a more worthy source material - rather than continue the karmic cycle of producing bad, worse and even worse anime.

Chinese fans are already voting with their feet: Bilibili critics dissed Ave Mujica as an utterly failed venture which offers no value beyond the hype and Rock Hobby will face the same response. Music anime production can't remain the same post-GBC: all of visuals, soundtrack, characters and story must become magnitudes better!

2nd episode and this is already a 10/10 show for me.

Problem is, again many people come to this show and assume it's going to be another Bandori-like story. But no, it's more like GBC and everyone's on drug lol

The characters are supposed to be going f*cking crazy and over the top, and I can immediately tell the team knows what they are doing just by watching OP and ED

Meanwhile some people are complaining "OMG the character should really know how to control their emotions" WTF bro? Try going to a gig and tell everyone there the same, I bet you will be warmly greeted by middle fingers LMAO

My only complaint is... manga is even better and CGI still needs to catch up. But hey at least we have Band Maid cover of every song in manga, what else can I ask?

Another solid episode, and I loved the references to famous bands like Linkin Park, and the sock part when they mentioned Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Now I don't know what to think of Otoha. At first I thought she was hiding her true self, like Lilisa, but now it seems like that bitchy personality is part of her, something that comes out when she gets on the drums. Hopefully this time Lilisa will put her in her place and she will be the one to insult and then they will form their band.

Lilisa's mother is also a mystery. She acts like she's from a noble family, but in Lilisa's flashbacks with her father, they seemed like a pretty normal middle-class family. Also, the Suzunomiya's maids did not pay the same reverence to her as they did to Lilisa's half-sister. Perhaps Lilisa's mother also feels out of place in her new role as part of the Suzunomiya family.

Seeing Linkin Park mentioned was crazy.

So ultimately, her plan is revenge against the upper class and by extension, the family her mother married into. Makes me wonder what happened to her father. She seemed to be at least 5 or 6 years old during her flashback, and she got along with him well. Perhaps he passed away?

Hopefully the yuri undertones dialogue doesn't become common or grating, because it'll get old quickly.

Argument is still valid, but small correction; the "CGI" you're talking about isn't CGI, it's rotoscoping, or at least something similar. The studio animated over actual performers playing the instruments

OP and ED are heat as expected, loved the songs and visuals for both, the artwork in the ED looked especially sick. And wow, Little Glee Monster huh, I know one song by them and it was ED1 for My Hero Academia Season 2, I really liked that one, very nice to hear this group again.

And here I thought Otoha’s shit talk would kick Lilisa into high gear, well I was wrong lol, she’s actually actively avoiding Otoha who is chasing after her and trying to make another “collaboration” happen, pretty surprising but it made for a funny episode. Now what I was right about was Otoha’s outburst at the end of the first episode was pretty much her getting caught up in the moment, understandable I guess but maybe choose your words better even if your lost in the sauce lol. But of course Lilisa trying to resist returning for another rock session was futile, we all know what the show is about, she can’t avoid her rock & roll destiny lol, so it was nice to see her finally visit Otoha, now let’s see how the revenge match goes in the next one because that was quite the blue balling ending.

I also really liked the very cool direct references to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Linkin Park, personally I’m not the biggest Chili Peppers fan but maybe I just need to give them another try, Linkin Park tho is like my childhood so big thumbs up for that one. And I also found the bit with Lilisa’s stepsister Alice to be an interesting one, I wonder if we’ll see her eventually partake in the rock music, if they wanna get experimental they could probably fit a violin in there, or better yet, maybe she could call it a fiddle and join a bluegrass band, the possibilities are endless lol.

Was a masterpiece of an episode all the way through, until the exact moment Lilisa lost the battle against the drumming temptation. What other reason could you possible need aside from loving the guitar you should have long forgotten? Per your own words, you got mercilessly ridiculed, verbally abused, and rejected. Here you go, easy once you think about it right?

That's why it is important to keep your emotions under control Lilisa, else you're just impulsive, and although that ain't ladylike, i know you don't care about that crap, you just wanna prove to everyone your mother ain't a disgrace, & that she's a mother deserving of the Suzunomiya surname despite being a commoner, who birthed a perfect young lady who's 1 day gonna be a noble maiden, so that her mom can be proud, which is a beautiful dream to have.

My only problem with the impulse you have, ain't that it's unladylike, but the fact that you're gonna reap what you sow all over again, and you're a prideful lady, shameless much? I'm disappointed in you Lilisa, but if you actually manage to turn the tables around Otoha in the upcoming episode, unlike last time, then i'll seriously, and literally, be most proud of you, to the moon & back. Please, do not disappoint me anymore Lilisa, thank you very much.

@LeWatcher

That makes a lot more sense.

Tbh, felt far too "perspective shifting", while lacking the processed methodology used to keep vertigo symptoms away in humans. That we see frequently in film cinematic passes on very wide shot film.

Ie IMAX documentary or generated-emulated landscape exposures. Like you'd see in a museum here in the United States.

At least thats what it has felt like to me. But, abnormally symptom inducing for myself. To the extent I had to look away in EP 1 and a bit here in EP 2. During those scenes.

It must be due to quality of implementation + minimal computation with real animated frames by frame.
Leaving actual spacing, or something, even in its motion.

Honestly, not using CGI to that effect, least not in totality. Is notable enough on its own.
Even if some of us probably have grown used to the technology eliminating, and providing a band-aid experience, to its original predecessor.

I'd say... It's not "unwelcome" overall. At least not to me.
Where it fits in a scene and is not shoehorned for the sake of following a trend.
Or to/for purposes of its use in the first place.

I said this in last episode's discussion thread, but I really like how well the music does the talking in this show. Even though all we get this episode is a simple basic rock drum beat, it's performed in a way that really works. Then the hi-hat starts getting opened, and things get serious. All while the voices of the two characters complement the drums in an almost melodic way because of how on-beat the lines are delivered. Then the crash cymbals come in...

In terms of the animation side of things, this is decent as well. It's nothing too special, but it's prettier than most seasonal anime. The OP and ED visuals are great as well.

I can't take this show seriously all the time though; there are so many unintentionally funny things in here. Or perhaps it is intentional since it's a parody; I don't know. Suzunomiya's twintails are just funny to me for some reason: any time she stands in front of a door frame, I wonder how the heck she fits through it. Any time she stands next to another person, she's like meters away from them. When she goes stealth-mode to avoid Kurogane, her hair moves more than her legs when she jumps. And so on. And then we cut to her in the past with shorter twintails, which just broke me.

Finally, is the black cat that was stretching this episode going to be an recurring character? Seems like it, from the OP. I guess they have a pet now.

yep, those who are really high class don't have to have good manners because their family connections and wealth excuse them from behaving well. I'm at a private boarding school in the UK and most of the really upper class people vape, use slang and try desperately to look cool. another thing this anime doesn't seem to understand is how a music teacher should act. the violin teacher in this episode literally tells the main character that she's shit and walks off. how are you supposed to learn from a teacher like that?

I'm gonna be a bit harsh, as someone that liked the first episode a lot: This episode is bad.
The reason that it is bad is that we barely learn anything new and the story barely progresses, you could easily cut EVERYTHING here save for the encounter with the sutdent council president and the scene at the music room.

What do we learn here?
That the protagonist's step-sister hater her? We knew that from episode one.
That she quit the guitar, was from a poor family and her mother remarried? We knew that from episode one.
That she has to put a facade all the time to look like a Yamato Nadeshiko? Episode one.
That she needs to become a Noble Maiden? Episode one, again.

Even worse, the episode repeats... itself. Did we REALLY NEED three different occasions where our protagonist rejects the invite to play the guitar once more? Wasn't the first one already enough?
That might sound like nitpicking from my part, but mistakes like these are like cockroaches: If there's one you're seeing, then there are other four somewhere that you're not.

I just like anime which respects my time.

@thewiru
I even theorized at first "Oh well, maybe in order to episode one be so concise they had to move small fluff to future scenes", but at this point wouldn't it be easier to just remove that fluff altogether? Being able to do these scenes later comes with a cost: An overhead of trying to replicate the conditions of the original scene, hence the "repetitiveness".

Let's use an example: The scene in episode one where the protagonist's mother is speaking to her and scolding her for yawning out loud, and in the back of the corridor you see her adoptive younger sister seeing displeased with the scene.
Unless you're speedwatching it half-asleep, that tells you everything: The younger sister is more proper and is annoyed by the idea of a "bumpkin peasant" joining her family.

Alas, I assume that some people ARE speedwatching it half-asleep, because then in episode two we need another scene of the protagonist talking (Nothing new) with her mother, but this time her adoptive sister makes it VERY EXPLICIT that she's annoyed by the idea of a "bumpkin peasant" joining her family.

I invite people to watch (Or rewatch) the episode with that in mind, you'll notice this happening a lot.

Band-Maid's OP really is something else, I'll give it that. Little Glee Monster's ED is alright too.

Lilisa on the outside is portrayed as the fine lady, but no thanks to Kurogane, she still suffers from the vestiges of her past...or is it?

Kurogane appearing towards Lilisa in both her rock and fair lady temperaments, and it pisses Lilisa all the more off....because she just wants to know when she can play with her next. Though her perfect Engrish being learnt from the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers...she almost gave her game away, and that got the attention of Kurogane all the more to stalk her for literate communions with bands like Linkin Park. But if anything, Lilisa's ladylike-ness being losing to the younger stepsister Alice, even for one who can't exactly play the violin right like the latter, the desperation of being the Noble Maiden wears on her sleeves.

In the face of the Student Council's president Yukari Fujimurasaki, Kurogane shows her ladylike elegance, though Lilisa missed her chance no thanks to the "friend" next to her. But it comes clear that Lilisa can't take herself out of the beat, as a challenge from Kurogane finding her hobby, whereas the former has given up everything to achieve.

The challenge risen once again, will Lilisa prove that she's all but moved on, or is there the fire that still burns within her?

I don't like anime atmosphere. Everything about school and the way of behaving seems exaggerated and a bit ridiculous. even They way in which the She protas interact. If the anime is I focus on music I will follow her
