Prediction:How to create Isekai anime but not harem,ecchi and more waifubait

A power fantasy without hot chics sounds half baked. The main selling point of any big isekai like Konosuba is cute girls and ecchi.

Theres nothing inherently wrong with any of the traits you mentioned. a regular guy transported to a fantasy realm, becoming a hero and getting ALL the girls? A story like that could be a lot of fun, in theory at least. Problem is, most isekai protagonists never face any kind of adversity. They're the most powerful being in the universe and girls throw themselves at him for the flimsiest of reasons. They just get everything handed to them on a silver platter and never have to work hard or better themselves in any way. Such pandering is not interesting to watch and is actually quite repugnant especially when they go out of their way to make the protag a disgusting miserable excuse for a human being. This is the sort of person they think viewers will most identify with.

Juuni Kokuki is the only isekai anime that is genuinely good.

Popular anime and big isekai franchise are different things. And Mal rankings are not universal and determined by the people who use the site, who are mostly westerners.

It has been done before, I mean the Digimon franchise is probably the most famous isekai franchise even outside of the anime community and it doesn't have any of those. Sure maybe there's Angewomon having some bondage elements to their design but it isn't really ever drawn much attention to from my recollection.

Konosuba isn't really that big of an isekai franchise.

I may miss the irony markers, but Konosuba is the 3rd most watched Isekai show on MAL.

The true irony with @rohan121's quote is that during the 80s and 90s, major isekai productions quite often had female protagonists and shoujoesque stories. Examples: Genmu Senki Leda (1985), Magic Knight Rayearth (1994), Tenkuu no Escaflowne (1996), and of course the crown jewel of the genre - Juuni Kokuki (2002). @KeepCalmAndMal - Ascendance of a Bookworm (2019) revitalized this variant, rather than inventing it from scratch. And while true fantasy and not isekai, Slayers (1995) was the gold standard of Sword and Sourcery anime for for a long time.

The scantly clad waifu harem and teen-boy power fantasy are rather recent formula changes, I'd consider Zero no Tsukaima (2006) as their trope codifier.

they killed pure ecchi and hentai and now they are going for killing ecchi fanservices on normal shows

solo leveling for example is basicaly an isekai (it has all of the features of isekais: op protag, gamification, level ups, skills and so on). The only thing that is not there is the reincarnation into another world. but he at least basicaly got reincarnated in the "real" world.
and its more popular than all those harem and fanservice isekai together.

reincarnated as a slime has a little fanservice, mainly with shion, but has not really a harem or any other of those cheap isekai tropes. and its still doing 10000 times better than any of those trash isekais.

i see that in every post here: "anim without fanservice wont work" "anime without some ecchi will flop" and so on. thats so much bullshit i cant even start.

just fucking look at all the most popular shows. they are basicaly all shows with zero to very little fanservice.

and even if you look in the isekai genre, im honest there are not a lot good isekai because they often are made cheaply without much love, but even there the top shows are:
slime, some fanservice, but not a lot and no ecchi, not a real harem
re: zero: little fanservice, not a real harem, not an stupid op protag
moshuko tensei: yes, it has fanservice but no harem untill very late in the story, and not the typical one. and i would bet everything i have, the anime would be running good, even without any fanservice at all. and it actualy has a plot and character development.

now lets talk about the best isekai series of them all: "im a spider so what?!". the anime is kinda lacking because especialy in animations, because the budget was small. but the light novels are awesome and pretty popular. and it has ZERO fanservice, ZERO harem.


the point that isekais can only work with fanservice, harem and other stupid shit is so stupid, for real. all the popular shows in thsi world show us that the majority of people does not want and does not need cheap fanservice and ecchi tropes.
but you guys try to convince yourself that the whole anime community is like you...

ps: i forgot the "as an aristocrat i use my appraisal skill to rise in the world". pretty good rating for an isekai, and it has around zero fanservice, besides the one character with too big boobs (at least she is not running around with bouncing boobs all the time). it has no harem and it does not even have an op protag.
and its still working.

Isekai would 100% work witouth ecchi, but lets say 10% would also be lost.

But that is harder than just giving a random dude godlike Powers and a bunch of girls with bouncing tits who are in love with him.
So they stick with the shit we see each season now...
