Finally, Mayuri gets to shine again in this war. Pernida is one of the most mysterious Sternritter members but a powerful one. I find it funny how thrilled Mayuri is in this fight. Amazing that they had brief flashbacks of the first time when he fought Uryu. So much nostalgia!

Pernida's hand design is how I had expected to look from the adaptation. This fight cooked especially in the unique nature of the abilities used imo.

I mean, having Kenpachi in an episode is already a recipe for success, but add in Mayuri, and yeah, the dub is more than just in the bag. Probably the strongest muscle-brained idiot in the show, along with one of the smartest people in the show, and can they really lose? Then again, they aren't going up against any fodder sternritter, they're going up against REIO'S LEFT ARM.

Expected it to be CGI, and yeah, even with the break, Pierrot CGI department hasn't improved all that much from last cour or the first. But whatever, we've been treated the past episodes that this really doesn't matter, because at least we got to see MAYURI'S BANKAI after how long has it been, A DECADE??? Legit last time he used it, Aizen was still the main villain lol. Something about seeing that ugly ass baby gave me nostalgia icl.

Also, didn't even notice it last ep, but the ED has changed slightly. It's reversed now lol.

Good adaption for the fight. I don't think there were really many (or any) added scenes from what I remember, but I might be wrong. As questionable as Mayrui is, it's always entertaining hearing his voice actor portray him

Now this was it. Probably, my favorite episode since Bleach came back in this new look. Time and time again, it is proven that Kurotsuchi is one heck of an opponent to go against. What a scary guy to have on our side. We're lucky that even tho he's a messed up fella, he's with us.

One of my favorite Bleach episodes of all time. I loved it so much. Captain Kurotsuchi showed incredible abilities and knowledge.

Mayuri is one of the small handful of anime characters that can make heavy dialogue scenes very entertaining. With an equally disgusting new Bankai to boot. It’s nice to have this kind of content back after so long.

As for the CGI complaints…funny enough, as someone who often dislikes CGI model usage, this was fine overall, that 5 second clip of 3D Pernida only looks bad if you watch that specific clip all by itself. The CG was definitely used to better depict Pernida’s creepiness that the usual 2D drawings might not have conveyed quite as well unless you’re okay with more stills.

I think they are trying to milk Kenpachi... though his arm was twisted, he chopped pernida's head just because he is THE KENPACHI! But Mayuri was totally unexpected in the episode, my ngga Modified his Bankai too, though i am a bit sus about Nemu, why is she so silent in this situation when his master is in a fight???

This was definetly the worst episode of the cour so far, not that it's a bad episode, it's still an 8 out of 10 episode, but the first half was done kinda poorly, animations and storyboarding were a bit lackluster. Second half was solid, liked how they portrayed the new modified bankai. And I still don't understand why big objects that have almost no movement have to be made in cgi, not only in Bleach, but in the current anime industry in general, it doesn't make sense to me

Holy crap, the animation was absolutely insane for this one.

Not sure what you guys are talking about with the CGI, this is high tier CGI in every regard I can think of (and yes, even that uncanny little 3 seconds cut of the hand making open and close motions is well polished, it's just the least stellar part of the CGI).

Kubo pulled out all the body horror for this fight, and it fits no better than with Mayuri vs Pernida, seriously such a fantastic fight, and there's still half of it to go, AND this is the 400th episode of Bleach overall, couldn't be any bette of a milestone episode than this! I did wish they called the next episode "BABY, HOLD YOUR HAND [Never Ending My Dream]" instead of "Don't Chase a Shadow" because that title is the first chapter of the next fight, but that's a personal thing. I wonder if the poem was one Kubo was going to originally use for a volume but was never able to

It was a good episode overall, but defending or even praising the CGI in this instance feels like the epitome of blindly fanboy behavior. This series undeniably boasts some of the best animation and lighting I've ever seen, but let's stay grounded and avoid deluding ourselves.

CGI was to be expected, not a fan but not a surprise. Didn't ruin the overal episode for me. I always wondered why Yhwach considered Urahara to be more frightening than Mayuri. Yes Urahara is the smarter one out of the two who thinks multiple steps ahead in a fight. Remove the gadgets and prep time, Urahara would obviously be the more dangerous one out of the two. However one would assume Mayuri being more terrifying one out of the two in regards to this war because of Mayuri most likely having more knowledge thanks to him doing unethical researches on the quincies back in the days and Mayuri being prepared to do unethical things in the present too. Even if you can't predict what Urahara is planning, there's certain boundaries Urahara won't cross. Instead of guessing what he's gonna do, it's easier to manage when you guess what Urahara won't do. Mayuri might not be as smart as Urahara, but he's less restricted when it comes to doing unethical things and this as a result makes it harder to deal with Mayuri. You won't know what he's planning to do, nor would you know what he won't do. The only thing you know is that he isnt as smart as Urahara.

Yhwach considered a weaker Yamamoto of the original gotei 13 to be more frightening for the same reason as why Mayuri is frightening now unlike the much stronger Yamamoto who Yhwach considers as weak because he isn't as ruthless of a person as the original gotei 13 Yamamoto. You would assume Urahara to fall into this category too.

Mayuri is smart but so damn disgusting at the same time lol. Bro used his mad experiments to defeat Pernida, Soul King's left arm. The baby scene and the hand catapult scene were so gross, ew. But oh well at least he got the things done.

True. "Baby, Hold Your Hand" is associated with Nemu (Vol. 71) and her relationship with Mayuri, and we haven't yet seen the second half of this battle where she has her moment and where she, Mayuri and Pernida will all get their greatest moments in the entire series. As lovely as this episode was, this isn't the culmination of the fight and by extension Mayuri and Nemu's character pieces.

Yea Mayuri has always been a creepy guy and that even extends to his fighting techniques. Shooting his enemy with guys who are still alive and screaming in pain before they explode, and of course…whatever the hell his Bankai is ๐Ÿ’€ but hey the Soul Reapers are lucky they have someone like him on their side. He knows how to get the job done and showed that in this episode, with it appropriately ending with him laughing like the maniac he is lol.

Mayuri's body horror aspect is so disgusting yet you can't help but love him as a character. The Spider-Man/Attack on Titan sequence was awesome, but yea, not much to say about this episode because my favorite aspects about BABY, HOLD YOUR HAND involve Nemu and will actually happen in the next one.

Fight isn't over yet, guys. Next episode is the whole climax of the fight + has potential to be one of the greatest Bleach episodes ever, and I'm not talking about fucking animation or sakuga, I'm talking character development, seriously, we'll see a side of Mayuri that we've never seen before.

The war potential list was made by Yhwach based on "who could mess with my plans".
And Urahara was messing with Yhwach on a much larger scale than Mayuri during the whole war.
Urahara contacted every faction and gave them work on day one of the invasion.
Mayuri was only doing local things like focusing on the next fight or trying to save the next injured soul reaper.

To phrase it differently, Mayuri was busy treating symptoms while Urahara was working on a cure for the illness itself.

@Yaggamy Not really sure about that. Without Mayuri, Urahara wouldn't had a way in time to send the gotei 13 in time to the Royal Palace as an example. Because of the timing thanks to Mayuri, Ichigo's gang would've struggled even more and might have even lost if Mayuri wasn't so well prepared.

I'm not saying Mayuri wasn't necessary to win the war!
Urahara had a plan that would have worked without help from Mayuri's reishi enhancer. He had no way of knowing that Ukitake wouldn't be supplying his reishi for the gate...

@Yaggamy I get your point but that's the kinda thing I was implying with Urahara. A lot of crazy things happen in this arc and we've seen that Urahara can be caught off guard by those things and as a result you can't blame him for not being prepared if something like that happen. If Urahara has a plan that doesn't work immediately but takes time to prep and that plan doesn't work out, you would assume the back-up plan takes more time than the original plan he wanted to execute. And this makes Urahara less dangerous for Yhwach.
But let's put Mayuri into the position and something crazy happen to his original plan that it ended up failing. The question isn't if the back-up plan is as fast as the original plan but rather if Mayuri has a different but less ethical way to solve the issue because his original plan would be a plan that causes the least amount of arguments with the other gotei13 members. We've already seen Mayuri hasn't changed that much compared to his introduction in the SS are like how Mayuri murdered all those innocent souls in the Rukongai district just to maintain the balance of the world. That's kinda the point I was making.

Is Urahara a grey character? I would personally say he's gray but leaning closer to a good person. Urahara is prepared to send people to their death as long as they don't realize it even in their final moment or Urahara simply lying like he did to Rukia because his original goal was to keep Rukia human forever. This makes the possibilities restricted for Urahara and more easier to manage if things doesn't go as planned for Yhwach.

However is Mayuri the same? Mayuri is smart enough to not underestimate him with the solutions he come up with and not restricted as much as Urahara regarding the possibilities. Mayuri does make some character development but I would still lable Mayuri as a criminal despite the character development he has made. This makes Mayuri a larger threat from my point of view because not only is he smart, he's prepared to do some criminal stuffs like Aizen does.

Yo masterpiece of a fight i swear to god. Kinda pity Zaraki though, but the fight between Mayuri & Pernida was the most painfully scientific detailed fight i think i've ever seen in Bleach, not to put any disrespect on any previous Mayuri fights, but i don't really recall them that well, except that pink haired arrancar dude back in Aizen's arc, however, as much painful it was to watch the reversed-nerves baby scream in agony, the fight perse was a masterpiece. Excited to see how Zaraki's gonna take that one from Mayuri!
