Welp, Osamu making new friends and meeting people on his adventure. In this episode, he meets Charlotte although I have to say that his character often gives a strange impression. Not a fan of Charlotte and her character though.

Meanwhile, I find Osamu's two companions hilarious especially Tama.

Priestess and Furry Cat were going THROUGH it this episode lol. Also find it funny how the way we found out that the knight was that bull was because princess said he stinks... LOL.

Never knew that girls that like dying were a type, but it's the perfect type for Dazai, so not really surprised that's his type lol.

Well Osamu really will seize any opportunity to kill himself that he can get. Really didn't care much about Princess Charlotte to me she was just a bit bland.

Awesome episode, just as good as the first if not better! Loving how the author is able to subvert some usual isekai tropes and keeps things feeling fresh despite the familiar setting. Dazai and Charlotte’s story today was so good! Who would’ve thought suicidal rizz was a thing.

Firstly, Dazai getting carted around in a damn coffin is so ridiculous man 😭 making pretty girls lug you around like that is crazy.

Really enjoyed how they handled Charlotte’s coming of age story of sorts. Instead of getting the usual isekai’d hero summoned to a castle to fight a demon, Dazai is playing matchmaker lol. I understand Charlotte’s dad wanting to choose a suitor for her and make sure she was taken care of because of his age, but man at least talk to your daughter and see what she has to say about the “choices”

The lake scene was really sweet and I respect how Dazai walks the line between feeling bad for what he put his family thru with the suicidal shit, while also unapologetically living his life the way he sees fit. A lesson Charlotte and everyone else can learn

I had a feeling Charlotte was gonna choose Dazai instead of her suitors, but I didn’t think she’d wanna commit double suicide with him lmao. Never seen a girl picked up with suicidal flirting before. Even Annette who’s seen it all at this point passed out from shock. “There is no god” you’re literally a goddess girl 😭

Dazai getting Charlotte to realise how much she wants to live and start doing things the way she wants to do them was so cool. Soon as he told the Minotaur demon they wanted to die I knew what he was getting at and they pulled it off well! Long live queen Charlotte!

Really fun episode, lot of really funny moments and I’m just digging how they’re handling the suicide gag thus far. Can’t wait for next week. Oh yea and I still can’t get over how much Tama looks like a thick Fran from tenken lol

Poor cat can't even sleep in peace.
Poor guy can't double suicide in peace.

That entire episode so predictably with the princess choosing sensei and eventually becoming queen but it was still enjoyable, and that bull got messed up bad by the cat though looks likes these companions atleast won't be useless.

This Charlotte character is so lovely. 🥰

MC tried to die again, I hope he keeps failing, lol.
And he is WEAK, super WEAK. LMAO?! 🤣

If only MC was a bit different, he could've woo the princess into marrying him, but alas, he is suicidal maniac.

Aren't we getting a high quality adaptation this episode? like, movie quality...? wow, lol.
Let's hope it stays so.

P.S. You can see how old the character designs are but the animation is simply amazing.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Both Priestess Annette and Furry Girl Tama transporting Sensei to the next town over: the Castle Town of Roth to meet King Thomas and Princess Charlotte, having the king hear how Sensei slept in a coffin, that is a chuckle of the threat. And between adversaries who will become Charlotte's next husband, Sensei...just makes his point all too bluntly clear since he's not in a position to judge. Aside from the girls fighting amongst each other, Sensei takes a moment with Charlotte for her to decide betwen the warrior Gomez and minstrel-cum-childhood friend Otto, which his serious demeanor gives her some thought....to commit a double-suicide with Sensei.

As funny as it is, Charlotte's reply definitely shocks everyone, but also because her own considerations are also never taken into account, that is until Sensei did the trick...to expose Gomez as the bull Servant of the Wrathful Dark Lord...because he smells, lols. This presents a great opportunity for Sensei and Charlotte to commit suicide, though the latter doesn't willingly want to die, and eventually has both Annette and Tama save Sensei. And while he may have failed to die again, Charlotte becomes the 16-year-old daughter of a Queen, that Sensei knows she'll do well...while he continues to float around in the coffin.

Mayu Maeshima's ED is fine to good. Still, a solid show all around.

As soon as that king provided two options, I just knew Charlotte would choose Dazai over both of them. Didn't expect the double suicide wish tho. XD

How convenient that somehow Annette and Tama still don't know who Sacchan is so the pseudo-harem can go on. :P

Yeah it was predicable who Charlotte would chose but her initially saying she wanted to commit double-suicide with Dazai was crazy lol. I'm glad she had second thoughts and in hindsight I don't think Dazai believed her but went along with her whim until she spoke up.

Sensei is over here pioneering coffin travel, in the near future they’ll be all over the market lol. And with the gang arriving to the new city, we met King Thomas and his daughter Princess Charlotte, and they had a situation going on where Charlotte needed to pick a husband between a music loving childhood friend and a burly knight, well with the appearance of Sensei and his depression rizz we all knew who she’d end up choosing lol, especially after that moment they had at night which I really liked.

Only Charlotte didn’t simply choose Sensei, she wanted to double suicide with him, quite out of left field but she thankfully realized she wanted to live when faced with death by the massive Minotaur looking guy who used to be the big knight, and afterward Charlotte even went on to become queen and live life the way she wants, so I guess even if Sensei is going around wanting to die, he’s still having positive effects on people lol. Also some good moments with the cat girl in this one, the bed scene was funny and I liked her brief fight with the Minotaur, and I guess we’re just calling her Tama now huh lol, Sensei’s offhand name is sticking around looks like. And we got the ED this episode, I really like the visuals and the song slaps, another Mayu Maeshima banger.

In this episode Annette reached some religious epiphany (11:30), "Tana" was the proactive one and Sensei was practising the mental health teachings of Lethal Weapon.
Also it's funny how a minstrel of that level (I guess he was grinding a lot) can produce such trashy music.

Loved this episode!
I think it works so well, because Dazai is the most sensible character is this show.
I doesn't feel like he was seriously trying to die, after all he still needs to find Sacchan and die with her.
On the contrary, he was helping Charlotte realise what she wants to do and ultimately releasing her from the shackles of her father.
I suspect he may have even been subtly testing her to find out if she was actually was Sacchan.

I'm also surprised that the comedy-tragedy duality I mentioned in my comment on the first episode is still working for me! (My comment)
I maybe helps that the two of them are chronologicaly seperate most of the time, yet always thematically linked.
I find the anime interesting for that fact alone; I haven't seen anything like it before!

That two minute conversation really did change Charlotte's whole outlook on life. I mean from considering suicide just because to taking her own stand is some insanely hilarious growth anyone could've gone through in a matter of seconds.

Good thing Dazai isn't messing around when it comes to his will to die.. he'd even take kids along with him if it's helping the cause xD

I wonder what Dazai's family thinks about his depiction. Perhaps they don't care since he died so long ago. He's always depicted as being depressed but with a good sense of humor.

Tama and Annette are funny. Sismance! Is that a thing? Is now.

Kind of looking fwd to next week. I think he'll not be very happy being saved.

So many of this season's anime are trash, and this one fits right in with them. (IMO, Summer 2024 anime season is one of weakest we've had in a long time).

So disappointed with this though as this was THE anime I was looking forward to the most -- Dazai in another world -- and, all we got was a badly-written, not funny, not interesting anime featuring over the top annoying characters, while Dazai is nothing more than a cardboard cutout who hasn't said or done one interesting or thought-provoking thing since he first appeared.

Even the desperate to commit suicide theme isn't humorous.

Couldn't hate this more.

Dazai's harsh and straightforward but he speaks wise words. The catgirl being low level is understandable but why is Anette only level 18? Thought she was gonna be higher. Hoping the best for queen Charlotte. That post credit scene though, hope they are fine.

I like this protagonist, Osamu. He breaks the mold of the typical pathetic/insecure/loud/weak protagonists. Although his purpose is somewhat questionable and dark, he doesn't force anyone to share his fate but rather encourages others to follow their own path.

The princess picking Dazai after their lakeside heartfelt chat didn't surprise me, but they got me with her wanting a double suicide. The power of this man is off the charts.

Funniest part to me was Jun Fukuyama with the (bit?) part as the bard. Soon as I heard his voice I was like "wait... isn't that" and for some reason it cracked me up so much. I hope he shows up some more.

Close second was the elf just losing all faith in God and collapsing at the princess' choice.

Didn't like quite as much as the first episode, but still solid and kept things interesting. I wonder how long he's going to keep making them drag his ass in that coffin.

The way he nonchalant eating those pills like it was a snacks, i can't bruhh.

Bro really rizz the princess on accident.

The humour is definitely my style of comedy, reminds me of Isekai Ojisan which is also done by the same studio.

Lol that guy went into attack mode thinking he was found out just because he smelled

Dazai offering a double suicide with the princess felt a little like cheating but maybe he didnt think she was really wanting that anyway just was adhering to her wishes stated. But still youd think hed try to stay alive so he can do his proper double double suicide with his lover. I suppose even that can be hard to look forward to in the pain of being apart.

@davidyodo24

I've been watching some of the anime in my massive backlog instead :)

Will be sticking with this for now though just with the hopes it gets better, as Osamu Dazai is one of my favorite Japanese authors (his novel 'No Longer Human' is brilliant -- well, "novel" in that it's far more autobiographical than not), and the premise of him not dying at such a young age but waking up in an alternate world was really quite lovely.

Second episode though was much worse than the first, but still holding out hope there's something I can grow to love in the next ones :) (Do love his character design, btw).

Also, they are not making fun of suicide for the sake of making fun of it. This is satire and the purpose of it is to draw attention to this issue and educate people via humour and sarcasm. The princess has learned her lesson but it seems that you missed the point.
