I'm a relatively new anime fan, who primarily watches seasonal anime.
I like to be precise with scoring the anime I've watched, so I've used some features in unintended ways.
When viewing my list you can find under Storage a decimal score for most entries.
To help with sorting (and rare approximate scores) I've used the Priority feature.
An anime with score 8 and Priority High is like having a score of 8+.
These scores also correspond to decimal ranges like this:
X+ => X.166... - X.5
X => (X-1).833... - X.166...
X- => (X-1).5 - (X-1).833...
I've used the Storage type for the same purpose, but the way the list is sorted by Storage is confusing.
The equivalent decimal ranges for Storage are these:
Blu-ray => X.35 - X.5
NAS => X.2 - X.35
EHD => X.075 - X.2
VHS => (X-1).925 - X.075
RDVD => (X-1).8 - (X-1).925
DVD => (X-1).65 - (X-1).8
HD => (X-1).5 - (X-1).65
So, my (to the best of my ability) sorted anime list is this (using Storage):
https://myanimelist.net/animelist/gorkthe134th?order=4&order2=13&status=7
or this (using Priority):
https://myanimelist.net/animelist/gorkthe134th?order=4&order2=11&status=7
(Sorting by Priority or Storage seems to work only on desktop, unfortunately)
Note: I'm only scoring anime I'm up to date with, which means seasons I've completed (even if I've not seen the next one), seasonals from which I've seen everything released so far (1-2 episode tolerance) and not dropped or on hold.
Regarding my yearly wrap ups, this added precision cannot be taken into account, so keep in mind that some results may not be entirely accurate.

What I care about the most in an anime is usually the story. That said, what I call story is really a mix of the events, the setting, the characters etc., so a more accurate (and more technical) term for it may be "writing". I also value good direction and voice acting highly, and I, of course, factor in things like animation as well, they are just not as high of a priority for me.
In general, I try to eliminate any biases I could have at the moment of rating, in order to give a score I would be satisfied with no matter the time I reevaluate it. That said, the thing I am ultimately ranking is, basically, the experience I had when I watched the show (at most including some extra context I got later), so not all time related biases can be eliminated without rewatching.
When possible, I use the 10 pure scores as anchors (pure score = X.000), and try to find where in between them I would be most satisfied placing the series. The specific score doesn't really matter, as long as the surrounding anime and the relative distances feel right to me. This is how I interpret each pure score:
10 - A masterpiece every aspect of which is executed perfectly.
9 - The result of going above and beyond in what the series does best, whatever that may be.
8 - It has something unique or it just clicked with me and I can't tell you why.
7 - Solid show. Enjoyable. No major complains.
6 - They had a good idea, but there is an aspect of it bringing it down.
5 - Nothing special or there was an idea that vanished relatively quickly.
4 - It was not just mid, there was something bothering me all the time.
3 - It's not savable, yet not the worst thing ever.
2 - To score something this low, it must've been promising, but they butchered everything.
1 - If the perfect show is one you can't help but love, the opposite is one you can't help but hate.
Regarding my favorites, I am allowing myself only one anime per franchise. The chosen anime represents the franchise they are a part of and franchises are what's ranked in the list.
Exceptions:
* Avatar: The Last Airbender is wrongfully not included in the database. If it was it would give it a score of 9.93 and place it in the #2 spot of my favorites.
* S̶i̶m̶i̶l̶a̶r̶l̶y̶,̶ ̶I̶ ̶w̶o̶u̶l̶d̶ ̶r̶a̶t̶e̶ ̶A̶r̶c̶a̶n̶e̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ ̶9̶.̶3̶5̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶c̶e̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶#̶1̶0̶ ̶s̶p̶o̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶m̶y̶ ̶f̶a̶v̶o̶r̶i̶t̶e̶s̶ ̶(̶#̶9̶ ̶w̶/̶o̶ ̶A̶v̶a̶t̶a̶r̶)̶.
I have not completed the second season yet. When I do, I'll fix this. (Season 1 on it's own is 9.63).
* I've watched a lot of Makoto Shinkai films, so I chose one to represent the best of them.
Respectively, my favorite characters also contain only one character per franchise.
Note: Keep in mind that my favorite characters are not necessarily the ones in my favorite stories, but the ones that stood out to me the most in some way.
My favourite people is simply a list of the people I know of and the work of which I like the most. There are always, of course, unsung heroes, but if I like something and I know the person responsible for it, that person is a candidate for the list; as simple as that.
I don't have a strong opinion on company ranking, but, for completeness' sake, my "favourite companies" are the ones that have most consistently released shows that I appreciate, regardless of whether or not I have rated them highly.
