| I like discussion of controversial topics, but I fucking despise how in fandom spaces in general these discussions tend to be taken over by hateful individuals who call anyone who places any minor criticism as "the problem" and "woke tourist who deserves to be banished to the shadow realm". Japanese anime isn't perfect and has quite a lot of flaws and things that are pretty bad and should be criticized, but the same can be said about other forms of media as well. Your favorite medium isn't perfect, and criticism with a valid reason should not be seen as an attack on it. It's one thing if you're putting out bad faith criticisms because you hate minority groups or something, then its fine to call out that shit, but people really shouldn't be just harassed and obliterated for voicing concerns on legitimate issues such as sexualization of minors, glorification of sexual harassment/assault, sexist tropes, and concerning trends such as pro-slavery shows that tend to be common in Japanese animation. Some Youtubers like Chibi, Nux, and Rev make these issues worse by actively catering to and encouraging the toxic parts of the fandom to start harassing people who have legitmate criticism by using culture war phrasing and arguments and it's gotten so bad to the point that entire vocal parts of the community for Japanese anime online has become these "Anti-woke" hate mobs who feel like they are under attack if anyone makes even the most minor criticism or disagrees with them in any minor way. Like there's genuine nuanced discussion to be had on a lot of these topics but these hateful people just turn it into an "us vs them" narrative instead of allowing civil rational discussion and I've definitely seen this site turn into a shitstorm because of so many people falling down the "anti-woke" pipeline and being so adverse to any meaningful discussion. Terms like "Censorship" and "Localization" get misused so often and used as a boogeyman to fearmonger people into becoming "anti-woke" that it feels like a lot of people just don't know what the fuck they're talking about anymore. This shit isn't even just a problem exclusive to the anime fandom, gaming, Star Wars, comic, and film spaces also have a lot of these same issues where there's a lot of nuanced topics that are a bit controversial, but the hateful people tend to be the loudest and fearmonger so many people out of fear of any minor pushback. It's just so fucking tiring tbh |

Any Anime controversy is just covert racism/xenophobia. Much of the hatred against Anime-related topics or moral tropes is rooted in anti-Japanese sentiment. Some are more obvious when they openly criticize the history/culture of Japan along with the Anime but ignore the animation, culture or history of their own country on purpose. It's only an issue when Anime does it but they don't care, try to hide it or worse "justify it" if its a Western production. Pretty obvious what they are doing. Wokeism is - and always will be - very bigoted. Leave Anime and Japan alone. I tried to avoid them but I'll always defend them if I'm very annoyed by hypocrisy and racism.

If its about weeb #357353 complaining about "censorship" or an alleged "mistranslation" then I can't really bring myself to care. If it is something more serious like Crunchyroll using AI translations or the abuse of the animators on series like Jujutsu Kaisen, then I'm a little more passionate and intrigued.
