Whoa, this episode took on a slightly more serious tone. I think it's interesting that we find out more about Ryuunosuke and how she's living without his mom. Obviously, they still managed to add a lot of cheeky humor in this because of the show's tone. I find it entertaining when it's balanced out.

Hope she gets more screen time this season. She's also much more hotblooded than I had thought. Cute to see how her family is like even through photographs.

I totally get why they made Lum's hair shiny in the remake, but it's a bit puzzling why they decided to give EVERYONE shiny hair.

As Ryunosuke passes by a friendly mother and daughter at the entrance of the public bathhouse, he encounters a sleeping raccoon dog hanging from a tree in a residential area on his way back. He decides to pick it up and deliver it to Ataru's house. Invited to dinner, Ryunosuke reflects on his own lack of a mother while enjoying the warmth of the Moroboshi family. It turns out that Ryunosuke's mother didn't die but rather left.

Ryunosuke experiences a rough morning as he is embraced by his half-asleep father. Unable to remember his mother's face, Ryunosuke, along with Ataru, Lum, and others, embarks on a thorough search of the house for an album containing a photo of his mother. Onsen Mark walks solemnly, for it is about to visit the homes of students. The destinations include Ryunosuke, Mendo, Shinobu, Ataru, and Lum. The home visits promise to be anything but straightforward, setting the stage for an unusual series of encounters.

From what I saw of the original show, I realized I'd forgotten how annoying Ryunosuke's dad could be. It genuinely tugged at my heart when Ryunosuke sought comfort from Ataru's mom. The scene with Lum perched on Ataru's shoulders while on the swings had me laughing—it was funny. Also, this episode threw me for a loop regarding the speculation about Ryunosuke's dad possibly being Ryunosuke's mom. Onsen Mark getting some focus in this episode was a nice touch. The format with three stories or chapters in one episode left me wondering if it was rushed or faithfully adapted, but overall, it felt good.

And hey, at least Onsen Mark is gonna have a break from the chaos in his class, even if it just for a brief moment.

Urusei Yatsura not having a good OP and ED challange (impossible)
1:34 There is a pun in the name of the bathhouse. It's called わさびじょう湯 (wasabijouyu, "yu" at the end meaning "hot bath"), which sounds the same as わさび醤油 (wasabi-jouyu lit. wasabi soy sauce) - soy sauce flavoured with grated wasabi (used for sashimi, etc.)

Ryuunosuke's dad is the worst dad and worst husband in the world lmao
I didn't know this, but in the ED there are a lot of references to OPs and EDs from the original anime. This is really cool!
There is a scene after credits! And it seems like there'll be more parts, nice.
One of the best episodes imo

The visuals for the OP sure fit it like a glove. Ten really picks the most random of places to nap in. Its funny seeing who has the real power within Ataru's household. As lie's go that one was pretty elaborate. Too bad about that album though. But man Ryo's dad as a baby sure was creepy. Such a silly reason for Ryo having no memory of his mom though. Looks like the time for the annual home visits is finally here. Curious to see how many houses he can make it too in the end.

Ngl I didn't expect another Ryunosuke-focused episode in the Remake. And it was remade very faithfully too. I was sure that some scenes with Ryunosuke's dad would get cut or changed like in Season 1 but from the looks of it, pretty much everything was intact. Impressive.

I kinda wish these side-character-focused episodes were more common in the Remake like in the original but it's kinda hard to do due to the limited number of episodes.

I said this before but Ryunosuke's probably the most tragic character in Urusei Yatsura. She was forced to live like a boy since she was a child by her lunatic father and she never knew her mother.

You can tell where all the ideas from Ranma 1/2 came from by watching this episode.

Interesting, so they're gonna split the Home Visit Blues chapter into 4 parts as post-credits scenes of different episodes. Not sure why they couldn't just make a full-length episode about it but the idea's kinda cool I guess.

The next episode is going to be another full-length episode. I'm excited about it but I'm still salty because...

Wow the OP is so good 😩 they don’t miss at all with UY songs and visuals

Man I know it’s a parody comedy series but damn Ryunosuke’s dad lying to her about her mom being dead, coming up with this fake backstory, etc, was really fucked up.

All that commotion just to find out he didn’t even know who Ryunosuke’s mom was lmao. Still think honesty would’ve been the best policy in this case so she didn’t get her expectations up.

Ryunosuke’s probably got the saddest backstory of any of the cast. Not only does she not know her mother, but she’s also been living as a boy her entire life and her dad still doesn’t acknowledge her as a girl. Gets played off for laughs, but that’s got to mess you up. Especially when you see people like Ataru with their happy little families. Escaping to Ataru’s house at the end of this episode was probably the best she’s felt in a long time.

It’s nice to get side character focused episodes though! I’m looking forward to next episode with Ataru and alum

Great opening.

The story of Ryo's father wasn't quite as dramatic as in the og anime, but they kept the spirit of him being one hell of a storyteller(liar) and the other scenes also seemed surpsrisingly faithful so it was easy to recall them, in particular the lastt part with dad on TV lmao. Hilarious episode in both versions.

4,5/5

Welcome back to Urusei Yatsura Thursdays😀,

Not such a banger as last week, but this was hard to top.
And also side character episodes do deserve theirs existence.

I like that the series, in addition to its humor, can also strike such tones. Not every comedy series gets this right, but seeing Ataru's parents care for Ryunosuke warms your heart.

Like 0451 said, the third adapted chapter was only the post-credit-scene. The episode itself is an adaption of chapter 176 and after the commerical break chapter 177.
So they did 2 chapters in roughly 20 minutes, which is very faithful adapted.

So, yeah, Ryunosukes father's defintely greatest jerk in the series. The only consolation for me is that Ataru's gang and everyone else also see him as crazy and are on Ryunosuke's side.

But I also have to say that the constant fights between Ryounosuke and her father never fail to make me laugh. Although their behavior is largely repetitive and they both beat each other up every day, it is somehow still quite amusing to watch them.
The ending with the big explosion, which showed how shocked everyone was because of the Ryus dad really made me laugh.

Glad I'm not the only one poiting this out. Was really cute.😍

Really looking forward for next week. Did not expect doing "Electric Jungle" at the beginning of the Season, since its part of the last sixth of the manga (Chapter 301-304 of 366 in total). Made me wonder if they'll jump forward and backwards within the chapters or they more focus on the post-300 chapters in this seasons.

Anyway, nice sophomore episode of this just beginning journey.

I've wondered for a while if they were going to address Ryu's mother situation and here it is nad it is as silly as I expected it to be. Nothing beats a mom's cooking and when it came to Ryunosuke that what's started it all. His father surely is a weirdo, a funny one, but a weirdo. Also, the animation quality may have gone up from the last season as I don't remember each scene looking as neatly in detail.

Always loved Ryuunosuke’s episodes in the OG and it’s the same here, I’m especially finding myself really enjoying her new VA, I really like how high her voice gets when screaming. And the bits in this one were good, Ryuunosuke’s mom continues to be a mystery in the remake and it is just made more confusing by her dad, I’ve always wondered if he was telling the truth even once but you’re probably better off never believing him lol. And like another post in this thread mentions, this was a pretty faithful episode, only thing I wish it had that the original did was how increasingly wild the stories of Ryuunosuke’s mom got, I’m pretty sure it involved World War 2 and even the Titanic lol, for me it just adds to the lunacy of Ryuunosuke’s dad but of course I liked what we got here too.

And it is interesting that their making the home visits into post credit scenes, I think it’ll work out but it is a shame it won’t be a full episode or at least half of one because I remember it being a great one in the original, oh well. And based on the next episode’s title I am pretty excited for a character we’re going to meet, it’s a character that did not appear in the original much so I hope to see more of them in the remake.

Pretty enjoyable episode. I forget to mention that I like the ED song more than the OP. It's vibe, aesthetic and the music just sounds better. Ryunosuke's dad is a total asshole but he's the only family member that she has. It must take a lot of mental fortitude to stay sane with such father lmao. The tiny bits of Ataru's mom trying to shove in all the dad's portion for Ryunosuke is really funny. Man, poor Ryunosuke is just never truly get the happy ending is just tragic. At least they add Kotatsu neko beat his ass too. I don't really like how they try to slip in the third part of the teacher visit. That particular chapter is a pure gold of Onsen mark bad luck from every single visit except for one. He basically visit the main core characters parents so it's a really weird direction to only adapt Ryunosuke's part just to fit the runtime then slip in the other ones in the future episodes. I think the third part is just unnecessary tbh since they could just panned the show a bit longer instead. Next week, we got a full episode adapting four chapters in total and this one is pretty big for the Atalum's relationship and yet we haven't got their first date "Tanabate" chapter and the space rescue chapter for their proper development, really? I hope that they aren't ruining their development though. I still want to see the dolphin date chapter if it ever get adapted.

The Moroboshi household is an experience Ryunosuke didn't have growing up.
fuckin lost it when Ryunosuke's mother's name just kept changing in her dad's stories. She isn't even dead.
That whole reveal at the end made it even more sad, having to get any pretty woman by the beach house to pretend to be her mother for pictures he never got to took with Masako.

The story of Ryunosuke, as she is invited to Ataru's place for dinner after bringing Ten back home, which he was sleeping on a tree branch. Despite living with her dad whom she wants to know what she was like since she passed away before Ryuunosuke could see her in the flesh, But, all her dad ever shared was his crush, of which her mother being a nurse...and a pro surfer in one, it is a rather dramatic story of lies that doesn't make any sense for comedy lols. In the end, Ryuunosuke didn't get what she wanted, but at the very least, she is still alive and simply left him due to his antics.

Despite that, Ryuunosuke is rather enigmatic that she could know how her mom looks like, but that her father is holding the photo album...which is full of her father's antics and not her mother. And despite the "regret" crap that he warned her not to, she finally can learn about her mother...though he's pretty much a ladies' man to request women to help him take care fo Ryunosuke...which he totally forgot about it.

Oh well, Ryuunosuke's better off in the Moroboshi family instead.
