After the Odawara Pikes Peak race, Kanata gets a breather, though Ren forgets that she's living with him now.

Even on a Saturday, Ren has to go to school and attend supplementary classes for the ones she missed at her MFG Angels job, though the same can be said about Kanata hiding his real identity as a racer that is revealed eventually. But talk about rotten timing when Ogata came to seek Kanata for upgrading his Toyota 86, it's been long overdue. Shun's recommended engineer of Team Spiral Zero's Hiroku Okuyama (the one with the S15) advising both Kanata and Ogata about improving the 86, it's just like how Takumi would've preferred if he still has his Trueno around.

While Ren helps Kanata in searching for his parents, she and her friend Wakana take a walk around Kamakura where couples are in full force for jealousy, and they come across the same cafe where Kanata is now working part-time. But his focus is not on the money, just his normal life is enough...if only Ren had her courage to ask him out. Okuyama's modifications to Ogata's 86 is internally strategic, so the "performance is power" rhetoric may backfire on him for MFG races, and when tried renewed, the car packs some serious power.

In the meantime, the trip around Kamakura for Kanata is to relive his young times with Ren leading him, though when will she have the courage to tell Kanata so?

ren should confess already to kanata

so even the genius mechanic there said kanata has more potential than takumi fujiwara

also MFG is not all about engine power so the gt86 will not have engine upgrade but upgrade on braking and handling

Now that the race is over we got more Ren and Kanata, sweet. I hope she'll be able to tell him about her work soon. They are so cute together. Ren's friend down bad for him though.

The 86 got upgraded, can't wait to see it in the next race but damn just 2 episodes left. Hoping for a s2 announcement for spring/summer 2024 with the finale.

"That does sound like something the stoic Fujiwara Takumi would say."
Took the words right outta my mouth.

Okuyama from fifth and final stage returns to tune the 86 at Spiral Zero.
Blitz calipers on the 86 dayummmm. Look at that exhaust, CG cars are a staple of the Initial D/MF Ghost franchise, but I appreciate those moments where the cars are hand-drawn.

Ogata's reaction to Kanata driving the improved 86 reminded me a little of when Yuuichi rode with Bunta.
Next, he faces the Alpine A110 driver who didn't participate in this year's MFG. Hopefully in a traditional street race.

Anyways, I liked the last scene a lot. Kanata and Ogata going for a test drive and Ogata praying to make out of it alive was so nostalgic..

Another great racing Sunday with solid overtake! And MF Ghost episodes

After the intense racing action of the last couple episodes, nice to get a slower paced episode with Ren and Kanata just chilling. Ren is so cute and such a maiden in love rn. I hope she works up the courage to tell him how she feels soon. Even if they don’t get together right away, having it off her chest will do wonders.

I like Kanata’s approach to just wanting a normal life. I think when you turn your passions into a job they become less fun anyway. Working a regular job and keeping racing as a side gig is a solid idea, his mom really raised him well and taught him to appreciate the small things in life.

On the racing side of things, the 86’s upgrades might be minor, but I’m sure they’ll have a big impact. When you got someone as talented as Kanata who we now know has potential to surpass even Fujiwara, you don’t need anything major anyway. Get out it the way and let him do what he does.

Solid episode, can never get enough of ren design

A chill episode before we go into racing again. The greenery especially was very well drawn and soothing to look at. From the next ep preview we can tell this is going to end on a cliffhanger for season 2.

nice SoL episode after those adrenaline pumping episodes are needed. kanata and ren episodes are reminiscent of those episodes where takumi and mogi (oof) would chill together after his races. kanata got a part-time job as well despite being a big racer already, still got his feet on the ground. the 17 year old lover at the end.

  • What's Ogata's reason of existence? He would be a plot device to derive the technical explanations for the audience.
  • "Power alone doesn't determine overall performance. I don't neglect the chassis."
Even though muscular strength of legs is important, the final part to push the ground is feet and shoes.

I do find it ironic that Kanata, who learnt a lot about racing at Donnington, would work at a cafe called Silverstone. That alone, as a Brit, makes me smile! =)

I'll say that I do appreciate this episode being more chill compared to the intense action that we've had. Along with Kanata's rather respectable wish of wanting to live a normal life, hence the cafe job, hanging around with Ren (I love her casual outfit, by the way!) and going sightseeing in Kamakura was rather relaxing and showcases how many pretty locations that area has to offer.

We did get some focus on the Toyota GT86 getting upgrades. Thanks to the help from a familiar face from the later Initial D seasons, Okuyama from Team Spiral, the GT86 gets upgrades to its braking system, with the Blitz branding, as well as a new intake and exhaust set. The end result, as we could see from Ogata's hilariously panicking face, was worth it.

The episode, however, did end on the shot of a certain guy by his Alpine A110 parked up, so we might get a classic street race in the next episode.

i don't see how her being an angel and confessing it to him is all that important to the plot

aside from that, her friend going gaga over him was funny. it was funny how the mom was like "oh it's lively on the second floor this morning" even though she doesn't like that he's a racer. tuning up the 86 is interesting

but most importantly, the scene at the end where he's riding passenger with snot and tears praying not to die was awesome. funny and reminiscent of the original Initial D series

Holy shit did any one see the blitz calipers on the 86

Those calipers are worth heaps in rea life!!! Haha
Just as much as brembos

I still think it’s unrealistic
That he’s not opting for Atleast a turbo set up

In real life a stock engined gt86 has only 140Kw
Barely 200hp and it’s a boxer engine… similar to a Subaru well they engine was developed by Subaru… ( BRZ )

But it’s anime it’s fictional 🀣

A good driver can take any car and drive well
But in the end you need a balance of power and driver skill

A Toyota Prius wont win against a Porsche 911 lol no Matter how good of a driver you are lol πŸ˜†

Competing against European super cars with Atleast 400-500hp more it’s ridiculous lol πŸ˜‚ not to Mention yes the 86 does infact handle well and it was designed to handle well
But against a Porsche GT3 🀣🀣🀣 your not gonna convince any real car enthusiast

Now a modified 86 with a modified engine or a engine swap let’s say a Toyota 3SGTE or even a 2jz
And a good grip or time attack tune
With racing coilvers for suspension and sway bars for racing handling and slick tires super soft best brand money can buy

Then yes in reality he could beat a Porsche 911 GT3

But the fact that he’s leaving the engine with stock power lol πŸ˜‚

Like I said a
Toyota Prius wont win you a race no Matter how good of a driver you are

If a track has enough corners and bends maybe…

But on the straight your gonna be slow…

How I know
I am 31 years old
Mechanic
And I got a track car…. Not the worlds best driver…
But It’s common sense that doesn’t matter how good of a driver you are you still need a balance between power and handling…

If your car just handles good but is underpowered

In real life you wont win any thing…. Unless your racing in mountains against heavier cars….

Intake and exhaust on a non turbo Subaru boxer engine in the 86 and it’s not just a cat back exhaust either it’s gotta be full exhaust system and headers…

Wont do much lol just noise aesthetic lol πŸ˜‚

If he did a ecu tune ( computer tune ) maybe

This is fictional…
As a car guy and mechanic in real life

Unless he’s racing against heavier cars which he’s not…

Compare the specs of the German beckenbaur dude and he’s Porsche 911

That’s got lot more power and Porsches are made to handle well
Factory race sway bars…

In real life no matter how good of a driver ya wont win lol πŸ˜‚

@Meta_Yoshi he needs Atleast a turbo kit stage one tune
To Atleast be competitive in the straights
From a realistic perspective lol

A stock Toyota 86 is barely 200hp lol πŸ˜‚

Power and handling

@Hashiriya_weeb87 First off, Beckenbauer drives a 718 Cayman GTS, not a 911 Carrera, unless he changes his car later on, who knows. Anime-only guesses only go so far. =(

Secondly, obviously he'll need to work on forced induction, along with other potential upgrades like camshafts, valves, engine displacement amongst others if he wants more power, along with better cooling systems to handle that extra power. A simple intake and exhaust change won't do much, but it'll still contribute to making the power stronger. Obviously you'll need both power and handling to make the most of whatever car you want to modify, but it's wiser to focus more on handling first. Going all power without upgrading any of the brakes, suspension and anti-roll bars won't help you if it comes to circuit racing.

In the end, this is still a fictional show, so it's not aiming to be realistic in a lot of things, which I have no problem with at all. I hope you didn't assume that I lack knowledge about what goes into car modification before double mentioning me. You do have solid knowledge, after all, although your post was a little confusing if I have to be honest. ^^;

@Meta_Yoshi

Confusing what’s confusing about it ?

99% of people on hear lack any sort of knowledge on cars and the physics of racing lol

But yes this is a fictional story…

But some people act like it’s based on true real life racing no it’s mot lol πŸ˜‚

It’s great theirs interest in cars in the anime community

But some of the comments…

You guys need to watch donut media on YouTube.. before believing any thing the author of this anime projects as fiction lol πŸ˜‚

What’s so confusing or what didn’t you understand?

You used the correct term of turbocharging forced induction correct

Was it the part of having a balanced car power and handling cause that’s not confusing dude… that’s realistic…

You don’t win races with a car that’s just stock with upgraded handling

You need both set ups…. Any one on here give me a REAL life example of a stock car with no engine mods
Winning ?

Unless it’s a hatch back that’s all wheel drive from factory
Vs sedans on a mountain…

That’s the only way for a stock car to win….

I am going back to my Mechanics forum… with people who actually have a realistic amount of knowledge

And can determine what’s engine Knock

And what’s a block and head lol πŸ˜‚

@Hashiriya_weeb87 Last time I remembered, the Cayman is a mid-engine sports car and the 911 is a rear-engine sports car. The Cayman is mechanically the same as the Boxster and has been since 2005 towards the present day until Porsche replaces the pair with EV versions in the near future, so I fail to see it being "basically the same" as the 911. Not to mention, they're very different in how they drive.

To be frank, you're not very good with your reasoning about your argument. Having knowledge is one thing, but the way you've explained it in your constant posts (Again, why do three separate posts mentioning me when you could keep it in one?) isn't organised that well. It's also hard to take you seriously when you keep overusing the "lols" and face icons while telling me that I lack realistic knowledge about what goes into modifying a car. I did study motor vehicle mechanics and have friends who do racing as a hobby, so while I don't partake in racing myself, I'm confident about the knowledge that I do know.

I know this debate is almost approaching borderline pointless, so I'll end my replies to you, since I don't want to clutter this discussion thread with what is essentially an "agree to disagree" argument. We know what we know, so lets keep it to ourselves and enjoy this series as it is.

You wanna believe a stock gt86 can beat Supercars go ahead lol

But try and rant about it on a automotive forum and you’ll be laughed at period lol

IN REAL LIFE.

A car needs a balance of power and handling

Not just a drivers skill…

If that’s true then a formula one driver racing for HAAS should be able to beat verstappen…

But that’s not the case is it…

Red Bull spend millions on engine and chassis development compared to haas

You can’t depend on driving skill and the handling of a car alone

What katagiri is doing in the anime
In real life no one is that stupid….

To be competitive you need a balance of engine mods more horsepower and handling… suspension weight reduction brakes tires sway bars ect

I am done…πŸ™„

Upgrade time!

Kanata's haircut at work looked a lot like Takumi's. But I'm glad he returned to his regular one later on. I'd prefer to have a new character by personality and look, not a clone of an existing character who is on top of that an iconic one.

I loved Ogata's reaction to all upgrades done to his car. It reminded me of Iketani's behavior while Takumi took him on a ride back in Initial D, haha.

Huh, so the weirdo from before seems to want to challenge Kanata.

Yo isn't that Okuyama that raced in a blue S15? Now he owns a cool tuning shop and is well known as a tuning expert.

It's exciting to see the GT86 getting upgrades. New suspension system, brake callipers and pads, intake and fabricated exhaust. All in all some generous upgrades to make the car a more capable GT racer...

Still I find it hard to believe that despite the money available, they didn't go to upgrade the power. If they don't want Kanata to have to re-adjust for a forced induction from a supercharger or a turbocharger setup, then they could always get a forged 2.0L race engine or get a bigger bore stroker 2.4L and maintain the naturally aspirated characteristics of the car. If I were Kanata, I'd get all the underbody upgrades, exhaust, intercooler and radiator upgrades, suspension, semi-slicks, new lighter wheels, get rid of all the interior dampeners, get a strut bar and maybe a small roll cage, and then a sequential manual shifter. I'm tempted to say a wing, but given the lack of power, a wing would've fucked GT86's top speed which is precisely why you'd NEED power. Get a Judd naturally aspirated F1 racing v8 and slap it in there lmao, high revving, ez win.

AE86 racing on a downhill race against some of the most known JDMs was somewhat believable, but here we're talking about 50+ km spirit race with varying elevation against fucking supercars ffs.
