So I was watching an anime where someone says the phrase "onee-chan" and I shriveled up with subconscious cringe. This is due to all those "onee-chan" jokes which were funny some years ago but now I just can't hear the phrase and not cringe. But I know this is just me and this is not the topic of this forum.

Its just that the act made me think why is "Ara Ara" so popular? I just genuinely don't get the fact about why this phrase is so popular as it strikes me as any other Japanese phrase. From anime to memes to every other platform. Do people really like the phrase or is it just a meme that got famous? And if you like the phrase you can also tell why so cause I am genuinely curious. Is the reason as subtle as "I just like it cause I like it" or there is some real reason behind it?

People find it erotic when a anime girl says it. Simple as that.

I think it's just because it has a calming sound to it's phonemes and because of the type of characters and voice type it is associated with. Personally I don't care all too much for it.

Seeing people complain because Makima and Vermeil didn't have the "ara-ara" voice made me realize how bad that trope is. I feel like some anime tropes are just there because "everyone did it before, so why shouldn't we do it again"; I mean, it's not like the obligatory "sneezing when someone talks behind your back" scene is going to add anything of value to an anime.

I genuinely love Ara Ara because it's hot, seductive, cute, funny, and memeable. Also, the fact that such a simple phrase can make people feel all sorts of different emotions is kind of fascinating to me in a way. Some people get annoyed by it, others laugh, some find it hot, etc.

I like the idea of a hot older woman coming onto a younger man.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

With things like oreimo, and eromanga sensei I always thought the younger sister fetish was more so a thing. It is a very common joke in anime like even in black clover. The ara ara older sister fetish seems a lot more niche, but I guess it may get more attention through shota fans.

Consider for a moment, the ideal sex life for the average otaku. Does he wish to be active and protective, to be the one to put effort into attaining his relationships, and grow his strength of character in the process?

Now, what is the "Ara Ara"? It is a saying said by characters going for the exact opposite style of appeal. All you, the recipient of affection has to do, is sit there and listen, and the joys of the world will be place upon you, without any effort required on your part.

That is the appeal; That is why it is popular: Because it panders to the fantasy of the otaku being perfectly sexually attractive, as-is, with no need for self-improvement, as the women will come onto you.

Of course, to the well adjusted individuals of the world, this is utter asininity, which is what we should all see it as, because they are fictional characters, and a relationship between a fictional character and a human, especially in this way, should never be. It encourages sloth and hedonism, and discourages effort being placed into oneself to pursue relationships. But to the otaku, whose attitude towards relationships are faintly hopeful at best, and, in all likelihood, highly nihilistic, such degeneracy is seen as perfection.

Does that answer your question?

"What is the appeal of Ara Ara?"

If the intonation in which it's said doesn't make you sweat at least a little bit, you don't have a soul.

To me, “Ara ara” is also one of those phrases that just sounds fun to say and rolls off the tongue. There’s the Japanese way of pronouncing it, where the “r” sounds like a “d,” and also the non-Japanese way of pronouncing it, where the “r” sounds like an “r.”

“Ararararararararara” sounds like “oraoraoraoraoraora” from JoJo, so yeah, there’s that too lol. The goofiness and silliness of it is part of what makes the phrase interesting to me lol.

I'm fine when an anime character says ara ara. What I can't stand are vtubers who lower their voice and unironically say ara ara to the viewers and they gobble that shit up.

Bonus point if the ara ara is said in heavy english/american accent.

Well, it's pretty obvious that this is a stereotypical saying of older young girls with mature personalities. Those who love such characters also love Ara Ara. Just like troubled teenage boys saying "kuso" or tsundere saying "just don't think that I...."

It's more like R and L and a little bit of D which is confusing as fuck when I hear it described that way but basically it's some tongue position between those three.
