| So I remember writing a reply on Fario-P's forum on how to make shoujo better and one of my ideas was including big-chested female leads in some shoujo anime and manga. So I decided to ask if a big-chested female mc in a shoujo setting work? Now, some of you guys might be thinking: "But Milky, wouldn't that ruin the aesthetic?", "Most shoujo female protagonists are flat chested because most of the demographic is so I think that wouldn't work." However I kinda agree with that type of statement because shoujo itself is created for a female audience in mind, so I get what some people may say. But I think it depends on how the author treats them in general. In terms of character design, I think I have two examples of what a big-chested female mc could look like: First example is Yuuri Hasegawa from Hayaku Shitai Futari(And it's a shoujo)  I thought Yuuri would be a good example because even tough she got a slightly bigger chest size, the author doesn't make a big deal out of it or make it her personality which is fine I guess. Next example is Carol Olston from Tomo-Chan is A Girl! (Mostly Seinen)  Yes the series does have some fanservice which can get annoying but I think having Carol here is a good choice. (Despite the fanservice, her breast size isn't just what's about her.) So these are my two examples I have so far (might add more if you suggest some characters if I have time...) Phew, didn't expect this to turn into a long paragraph😅, but anyways thanks to coming to my ted talk about character design ideas. Edit: I hadn’t returned to this for a long time. But I’m happy to see everyone’s responses and opinions on this topic. And I don’t mind a large-chested fmc as long as it doesn’t make part of her personality or unrealistically large. |

| Well, where exactly do you draw the line for big? Does this count?  Technically josei, and not Japanese, but Korean, but whatever. We've seen plenty ridiculous chests in anime, and tbh I kinda like the josei manhwa designs. Not exaggerating the sex appeal ironically kind of makes it sexier. |

You know the state of shoujo manga, they are being dropped from magazines, the Manga and novels don't sell well, on top of that editors are afraid of trying new ideas.. | Shoujo is for females so I think making it cater to guys is a big mistake just like how shounen should not require including pretty boys. That is just my take on abandoning target demographics like what the west is doing (and flopping financially from doing). |

| The thing is that they wanna be appealing to that specific audience. But anyways, I feel like the generic shoujo doesn't really bring anything in 2023. I look at Kimi ni Todoke and I guess it'S a good show but it's not that realistic too me. I'd be good with anything new maybe I'll be able to like shoujo in the future because now it's dry. |

| Sure. Watashi ni XX Shinasai was quite popular during the time it was being published (2009-2015), has 19 volumes and I believe still the author's most popular manga to date. The protagonist is more big chested than the others, kinda showy too on the volume and chapter covers but still feels very much shoujo with all the sparkly and gliterry visuals. The story is quite the typical shoujo romance too. If by "working" means to bring in new fans that aren't originally the target audience, then I'm not too confident that chest size alone would make people interested if the story is still the typical shoujo.. |

| I think that would make more sense in a josei but sure it could be in a shoujo as long as they aren't unrealistically large. |

| IIRC Momo Adachi from Peach Girl was fairly well-endowed, although not massively so. Along with her tanned skin, her breast size contributed to her overall image of an "unfairly slut-shamed" character. |
