| There's better reasoning as to why A Silent Voice has the impact it does along with its core theme/message. Also, Your Name is a very different film that tackles a different field, so while they both are very popular films, I don't think it's practical to compare the two films. |

| I don't think turning disability into a plot device is something to be sad about. It's rather a thing to criticize, in my opinion. Same with making a character with disability hollow, as if their disability was the only element defining their personality. Zerem said: That's true. | Haven't watched Koe no katachi yet, but I assume it's sadder because Kimi no na wa isn't really all that sad at all. At least I don't consider it a sad movie. It has some sad scenes, but overall it's pretty upbeat imo. ^^ |
| Your Name didn't really make me cry, i honestly found the whole twist kind of...random and stupid (Sorry to the fans). Plus, i didn't really like any of the characters. A Silent Voice was much sadder for me because i've been bullied too and it was much more relatable. |

This is like trying to make something "tastier" by putting a whole bottle of catchup on it. But to be fair, the only thing I remember about it is it's framing device (vaguely) and that every time they did the switch, the guy would squeeze the girls chest. Now I don't know if that speaks more about me or the movie itself, but....It says something if that's all I remember. |
| Your Name is stunning visually, but really nothing too special of a story. It's not bad, it's not great either; it sits in the middle with "just good". Silent Voice actually uses its characters to move the plot forward. |

| Have two very different flavors of movies with the two. Your Name has gorgeous visuals, but is yet another Shinkai film having a long distance relationship theme with a supernatural gimmick that he's largely milked variants of the same premise with in the 20+ years he gained fame as an anime film director. A Silent Voice has a bit more meat to its story involving Shouko's situation and actually hits more closer to home with the issues Japanese society has with bullying and its treatment of the disabled. |
