I don't even care if the romance in it is lame or there is no actual meaningful character development between potential love interests. If a Romcom can't even make someone laugh it's just a lame romance drama filled with comedy that isn't funny. |

| The best anime romcom is School Rumble, hands down. Most of the shows mentioned above are not romcoms -- which by the way stands for romance comedy. What part of March Comes Like A Lion is funny to anyone? What part of Clannad, Welcome to the NHK, Little Busters, Honey and Clover, Ao Haru Ride, Spice and Wolf, etc., are comedic? Hell, some of these, like March and NHK, aren't even romances. |

| I'm not a fan of rom-coms. The overwhelming majority of romance works that I enjoy are serious and mixed with drama, especially with regard to the treatment of the romance element. That said, probably my favorite "Rom-Coms" are the ones that would be controversial to classify, and that I see a lot of people differing about the classification. NHK ni Youkoso! would be my favorite, while Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny-Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai would be my second, precisely because they are works that treat this and other themes with great seriousness, mixing them with messages and psychological reflections, and are much more embedded in drama than comedy. ReLIFE would complete the podium, taking advantage of what some have already mentioned above. However, if I were asked to choose a Rom-Com only among those with a dominant comedy presence, I would probably go between Nisekoi and Urusei Yatsura (2022). They are not amazing or phenomenal works, but among the combination of genres, they are the ones that worked the most for me. |
