Maybe there are guys like that? I'm not really for certain. For me, personally, I'm not a fan of romance. But I don't mind experimenting with some shows from the genre.

People could like whatever genre of anime according to their preferences and everyone is different. I also prefer sol and romance than action/thriller since they are my fav genre of anime.

Used to love romance/school themed anime nowadays I avoid them like the plague , specially these Shoujo anime that disguises itself as a shounen like Horimia and Shikomori san , I can't stand watching a single episode of those without cringing out of my mind or losing interest on faster pace .

I still prefer action/thriller to romance. The main problem with those romance Anime is that the relationships and characters are sometimes unrealistic or unreasonable and often fall into some kind of tropes or cliches. A bunch of girls with different personalities fight over a guy just because he's the MC is really ridiculous. Characters who always getting misunderstood and can not even express their feelings clearly to an absurd degree is somewhat repugnant to me. I didn't hate romance genreand even enjoy some series with Romance element but in general I still don't like romance-oriented Anime.

Yes, it is great. It's my favorite genre.

Maybe, at least for me I can control my emotions when I watching romance anime or irl.

I used to like action series. In fact, I am introduced to anime thanks to this genre.

However, I started to like them less and less. I am more drawn to other genres, romance comedy being one of them (probably my favorite genre), so it is good.

I still can't really watch shoujo though, for some reason....

Btw the answer to your second question is "I don't think so".

I guess it's really common, and not necessarily related to emotion explotion or something. In fact, many males watching romance series tend to adapt their feelings to the characters, in which they perhaps already develop something like rollercoaster emotion immunity.

Also it's not really embarassing, a male that like romantic things has his own charm.

I don't think liking romance anime as a guy equates to being more easily emotional exploitation. It just means you like romance, that's all!

I have read your list. It is not normal but I am not normal too. Like you, I like romantic anime and spend 95% of my time watching it (has complete over 200). If you are lonely, perhaps we could share our experiences sometimes.

Why should it be bad? If you like it you like it, don't be so concerned over rumors or others' taste

I wasn't a big fan of romance myself, to be honest, but then I start to watch Yuri, and holy hell when the lesbians kiss my world started to spin and I  yell,,,YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

But I have no interest in watching heterosexual romance. Sadly that and my love for Yuri and lesbian romances/ships make some homophobes very angry and hostile toward me. Couldn't care less about some haters and their little tears, let them cry =P

So enjoy what you want. Life is too short to be concerned about some toxic people and their approval. Be proud and praise what you love and enjoy yourself, NEVER back down for haters =)

For a male tastes:

Code Geass
5 Centimeters per Second.
DearS
Hand Maid May
Another

not much alas.

For girls just any shoujou or joseoi anime with another 'generic collection of flaws' girl and yet another senpai who will of course notice her and, despite all flaws that would turn away IRL men, would date her.

Why is this even a question? A lot of guys on this site, like me for example, like romance, family centered stories or in general slice of life more than action.I don't think it strange.

...

Now I am curious whether this particulary dumb spambot that commented on my profile after I have commented here is linked to only this thread or this happens with users commeting on other threads as well?

Cant say about Men in general but I do enjoy romance quite a lot. I wouldn't say one genre is better/more favorite then the other but I can say that I enjoy them both. In fact I mostly read Romcom manga and mostly watch Action/battle anime.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

The more commonly held belief and view, as I've always heard it expressed, is actually the other way around - romance and general emotional dramas are more generalized/stereotyped to be the province of girls and women versus boys and men. Boys and men are stereotyped to prefer action, war, and anything with heavier amounts of physical fighting in it (even applying to the sports genre as it still entails physical competition). There is no reason to expect this stereotypical view in people's minds doesn't equally apply to anime the same way it does to other mediums of art and entertainment.

As a male, all I can personally say for myself on the matter is that I prefer romantic thrillers.

I really don't know how to answer this question, seeing as I don't exactly fit into the group the OP is looking for. I don't really like Action, but while Romance is among my favorite genres, so is Thriller.

Trying to satisfy the OP's question, I don't think it's generalizable in that sense. See, I'm extremely crybaby and I really appreciate watching works that can bring me to that state. But even though romance is one of my favorite genres, what keeps me from liking most romances so much is not the genre itself, but the presence of comedy. I really appreciate when romance is coupled with drama and, on the other hand, I don't like Rom-Com very much - and the vast majority of romance works are Rom-Coms, so they're not for me. Perhaps because my individual way of thinking about romance seeks a lot for intensity, exorbitant feelings, metaphors and passionate speeches and less for cute, relaxing, humorous and happy moments as in these works.

But the point I want to make is that there is no such simple generalization in this case. For example, I have a friend who is a big fan of Rom-Coms, but he definitely doesn't have the ease of being moved by works that I have. I think that each person is different, although, as mentioned above, there is a whole culture of association between the male sex and action and between the female sex and romance, historically and socially forged.

There is no wrong with liking rom/romcom. People can change their preference anytime.

About emotion explosion, it depends on how impactful the story and character development. Usually, more dramatic, then more emotional.

Sadly, many shounen-seinen rom/romcoms nowdays are still just self sert insert for me until this season, i find a good one after so long time.
