I've been binging this show for the past day because it's been TOTALLLY awesome so far.... However, the dialogue/events in this episode and the last is absolutely awful. It's like they had 5th graders write this stuff. I'm not going to bother dissecting it. So many things and interactions are so bizarre and weird and childish and nonsensical etc etc. It's like the writers have never had a real conversation, nor experienced real things in life to have come up with the weirdness of these 2 episodes. Why does anime have to have such weird cringy dialogue sometimes -_-. The guy who beat Subaru up seemed fairly normal, at least. lolll.l.......Things will probably be better episode 14. Hoping these last 2 eps were just a momentary blip in the radar. |

As much as I feel bad about what happened to Subaru, he did earn what happened to him! This would have gone smoothly if he just kept his mouth shut. Yet again...Julius was a pain in the ass. I was actually hoping for a miracle that Subaru would be able to beat him!lol |
She got him back. If you understand the characters well enough, you'd know she did! |

TK8878 said: I can't get over that this episode even happened. Sure, there were nitpicky contrivances & conveniences throughout this anime so far, but it never truly affected much until now. None of it even compares to this arc contriving itself to shreds just 2 episodes in. It threw nearly all of the plot developments thus far out the window for the sake of forcing Subaru into a fall from grace so sudden it has to destroy his character to do so, because unless he's suffered severe brain damage (which is never so much as implied) even he would not have forgotten the lessons his near-death experiences (and those of his "loved ones"!) taught him. "Don't worry Rem, I believe I'm a dense idiot who barely manages to do anything of worth but it's okay because we all can lean on each other and find meaning in doing so. Now excuse me while I refuse to let Emilia do anything meaningful by attempting to swing a major political meeting in her favor and duel an imperial knight who dared to display basic knightly formalities to MY EMILIA all by myself even though I promised her I'd rest and get my magic gate injury checked out on her dime!" Plus it's all made so much worse when other established characters also make thoughtless decisions themselves, as well as the slew of numbingly barren new characters stepping in and doing the same. These candidates are cruel jokes. Emilia is naïve beyond hope if she thinks a communist monarchy (North Korea anyone?) is going to improve things, much less one under her stuttering, cloistered direction, NEVER MIND that Roswaal wants to use his influence in that scenario to attempt to kill what is effectively Lugunica's god. Meanwhile the lavender loli only wants to enrich herself, the new blonde bitch has her head too far up her ass to even avoid stalling the meeting through her own impatience, and Felt suddenly wants to obliterate the whole nation to establish an anarchy. Crusch Karsten is the only candidate whose goal isn't either fundamentally backwards or completely and solely self-serving ~ to tell this medieval society that the government's official position is that the god of their religion & folklore of the past few thousand years needs to shove off and leave them be. Yeah, good luck with that. Meanwhile not even the so-called wise men of the council don't so much as whisper amongst themselves about how screwed they are. It's way too much to be intentional, and this ending up as a "twist" would be insulting. This totally sums up my thoughts on the episode. The entire thing seemed more like a joke. I actually didn't like Subaru from the start (he was too annoying for me) but this just went so far beyond that. And same with the other characters' behaviours, be it the old ones or the ones newly introduced. |

Mayo-13 said: This totally sums up my thoughts on the episode. The entire thing seemed more like a joke. I actually didn't like Subaru from the start (he was too annoying for me) but this just went so far beyond that. And same with the other characters' behaviours, be it the old ones or the ones newly introduced. The whole introduction scene for all the royal candidates was pretty rushed (compared the Novel version). But let me make some things clear: 1. Subaru is an average teenager with tons of personality issues. His success during the dog incident got over his head and he started thinking too highly of himself. He thinks of himself as the protagonist or hero of that world. He also viewed Emilia as some "perfect heroine" who will blindly agree to whatever he says and will support whatever he does. Or that she will understand him without him explaining anything to her. This lead to a misunderstanding between them. 2. Emilia has her own way of thinking. She thought Subaru is doing all that because of her "half-elf" status. (When Julius asked "Why?", Subaru had replied "Because she's special") She feels that he is looking down on her as someone incompetent. Subaru wasn't even letting Emilia complete her own speech and stand up for herself in the palace. That is what she meant by "special treatment". She doesn't realize that Subaru is doing that because he loves her and just wants to see her happy (being hated by everyone around her for most her life, someone loving her is a far too unrealistic dream for her to imagine). And Subaru also doesn't keep the promise he made to her (being a Spirit Mage, promises and contracts mean A LOT to Emilia). She also feels that Subaru will just get hurt if he follows her (which is true) hence she feels its better to push him away to keep him out of trouble. 3. The show makes sure to punish Subaru severely for every mistake he makes to eventually make him realize his shortcomings. He will actually realize his mistakes and how he was wrong later on and will try his best to correct them. All this is part of Subaru's growth as a person. 4. Despite the kind of "first impression" those princess candidates gave off, they're actually quite capable and have a lot of potential. The Dragon Gem wouldn't have selected them otherwise. Anastasia was orphan and poor, but she rose up and established her own big business (Hoshin Trading Company) which controls lot of the flow of capital in re:zero. Now becoming the ruler she wants to count this whole country as one of her possessions as she does take good care of her belongings. Priscilla might be very haughty and arrogant but that doesn't mean she cannot be a good ruler. As for Emilia. She is very naive, innocent and plain. Having suffered lot of prejudice and discrimination she somehow just wants to make a country where everyone lives as an equal. Racial tension and discrimination (between demi-humans and humans) is a big problem in Lugunica and there was a big war 14 years ago due to this. If you observe in episode 1 there are demi-human exclusive restaurants, bars and houses, separate from the ones for humans. Demi-humans are allowed to eat and live in only those exclusive places. 5. The actual royal selection will take place after 3 years, which is a LOT of time for Emilia, Felt, and other candidates to grow and develop. They might not be perfect right now, but the fact that the Dragon Gem chose them says that they have lot of potential to grow and become a good ruler in the future. If they were already perfect characters what's even the point?. We will be seeing more character development and screentime for all of the candidates and they will develop. Emilia being the main heroine will be getting TONS of development in the future and she'll hopefully grow out of this naive and immature person right now, to a mature and worthy ruler by the time of the actual selection. Same goes for Felt. Reinhard will be personally training Felt and he'll make sure to bring out the best in her. Reinhard has a divine blessing that guarantees that he can bring out the best in any student he teaches. 6. This series is very BIG, the entire season 1 (25 episodes) covers just around 15% of the whole story. Even the source material is only around 50-60% complete right now. The royal selection is one of the big plot points and will most likely happen towards the end of the series (by that time all these candidates would have got tons of development and growth). |

Hey youtube fanboy, stop gas-lighting people! :p Anyway, just felt like adding to what was said: How communism and monarchy can go hand in hand is a bit difficult to comprehend since communism seeks to completely topple monarchy. NK is more like a monarchy since people are at the mercy of a tyrant (from the same family line) and men/women are expected to conform to traditional roles and follow their 'songbun' caste system (caste and communism are not possible, and NK follows "Juche" which isn't well defined either). Communism despite its supposed advantages, diminishes the worth of every person's hard-work by distributing fruits of labour among those who haven't worked their asses off. In the context of Re:zero, this doesn't apply to Emilia well because she hasn't said anything worthwhile regarding that. Anyhow, much of what was said earlier in 'NK' quoted comment was mere fomenting on an incomplete adaptation of Re:zero, by treating it as a complete one. We also don't know what the previous form of governance truly was, before the ruling party/family was mysteriously killed off (were people unhappy? assassination? etc. etc). As a result, we are then slapped with 5 seemingly different ideologies in the Council meeting, the latter which was just a litmus test for all involved candidates. It isn't as if the candidates are set in stone and won't improve themselves. If all ideologies were the same then it nullifies the need for conflicts in the political part of the story. Emilia's pledge came off as a form of 'western democracy' (liberal democracy as it is understood). She wishes for equal rights & treatment towards demihumans/humans, plus her speech came across like a 'demi-human-lives-matter' movement of sorts. She should be placed somewhere on the lines of democracy since "every voice is equal" fits her character well. The way the show presents it, her naive stance is rather futile, owing to her own background and her 'Season 2' reason for becoming the ruler. Because both humans and demi-humans exhibit disdain towards her witch-resemblance. Anastasia's pledge came off as her wanting to establish oligarchy. She is capable of taking care of her people because she was presented to be the only one throughout the show who actively employs demi humans in higher off-positions as normal humans. I would argue that Anastasia idealizes a core part of what Emilia wants to achieve. The royal court for that matter, the anime did not show any demi-human in higher positions of power either. Priscilla's pledge, she probably wants a full blown monarchy herself. Aside from glimpses of her personality that was shown, much of her is shrouded in secrecy. Crusch's pledge felt like a textbook definition of fascism and maybe she really is the most capable of pulling it off. Felt is the wildcard anarchy entry. I do agree that her presence is like a joke and befits her "hey-I-just-turned-15" mentality. At this point in the story, it doesn't really explain why Astrea family would want such a radical thing. ================================================= The reason why all of this appeared intentional is because every candidate is a greenhorn in this political game, and because their benefactors want their share of the benefits/personal goals by getting closer to the Dragon. I do know that the novel/manga plays the sequence out in a more convincing manner. The anime does however present Emilia's candidacy to be weirder than necessary by making it 'Subaru-specific'. Makes the old men look bored with their jobs as well, by showing how they were convinced of her candidacy by a boisterous young man making it loud and clear that he is into Emilia xD. |

while many are saying subaru deserved it or calling him out for lashing out on emilia... I for one side totally with subaru....lets face it he is the only one who could save her if she was under any threat as many of you have seen later on..so him following her is totally justified....many saying he is weak need to understand that his character doesnot have any hidden power if you want that go watch some other PG13 show where an mc would get an ancient power suddenly when faced with a much more competent villian as they remember their dead parents..his character showed courage as he didnt backed down against julius and he called stood out for emilia when even these "HONORABLE" knights were just standing there as those nobles lashed out....and if he didnt told emilia about how much he has done it would be fucked up as he has literally died for her so she should at least listen or support him....SO NO HE IS NOT ANNOYING OR HIS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IS NOT SHIT AT THIS POINT but makes his character more natural and sympathetic |

Felt characterization still the same in the first arc. Yeah, i was worried that she got forced on to that conference. But, okay, she was the real candidates by the glowing insignia. Great. Now, its time for the real issues? Nope. They need to passed some useless confrontation that ended with useless Subaru's attempt. What a joke, man. Subaru's act childish here to protect Emillia. He chose the wrong attempt only to get dumpsterred by the real knight Julius. The whole election times got cancelled because of that. Its very nice to had such a break. What could you do, Subaru? Atleast i got to seen Rem again in the next episode. So, yeah, not to be my bad episode, so far. Only to Introduced how naives Subaru had on his reaction. Only to served how wrong the path he chose right now. Still, i might think positive over this episode. To conclude some improvement on Subaru's characterization, his view over that cruel world he must faced everyday, his worst relationship with Emillia, and make the progression even further from now on. Not bad, not bad. But, please, use your usual logical mind plus added some kindness to solve that situations, do not brought back a blurry feel to that shit, o great wizard, Subaru.... |

This ep provided a bit of a different tension compared to the ones preceding it. Towards the end, it felt like a soap opera fight with the intensity cranked up 5 times harder Must really suck being Subaru...but the simping he does here is unbelievably pathetic, he deserved what he got coming to him tenfold Not one of my favorite episodes but definitely one of the more memorable ones |

i hated watching this ep so much lmfao the second hand embarassment was SO STRONG on multiple occasions i had to stop and take a break xD HOWEVER this was a smart move, kudos to the writer for making subaru look so horrendously despicable. i have never despised a main character like this. the nerve of him to waltz into a foreign country's election proceedings, make statements on "behalf" of someone who didn't even want him there, and then dare to call himself a knight when he has no understanding of the importance of that word in their culture?! oh and the icing on the cake, that outburst at the end maaaaan what an ugly look subaru. i have so little sympathy for him at this point. his cocky attitude was terrible Shi-rho said: I can only speak for myself here, but I thought this was the most "human" reaction I have ever seen in an anime. Subaru works his ass off all the time, even dies, all for the sake of someone who never will understand his pain, that person, even though she is not to blame for this, wants to cut ties with him and doesn't get what he went through. He even went so far as to make up the excuse of doing it for her, just so he can lie to himself to keep going and not go insane after all his horrible experiences. When he snapped, now that was perfect. It was a perfectly human reaction. Do you (= whoever reads this xD) not sometimes, at least partly, think that people should be grateful for what you do for them, after you constantly help them out? Shouting that out, and telling Emilia that she should be god-damn grateful, was the most natural reaction anyone in his situation could have ever had. He is just a normal guy after all, not a generic-af hero who shrugs off everything and doesn't get any mental problems, or just slight mental problems. i do think this is a good point, but i disagree that it's natural to expect people to be grateful for your favors. i think that's a very specific personality type that we've seen subaru happens to possess. as evidenced by his main character syndrome, subaru kinda has a huge ego/inflated sense of self-importance. i was just kinda shocked that he reached his boiling point all at once in this episode, i kinda feel like they didn't build up naturally to it? it was a bit sudden idk. i suppose he got a lot of confidence from fighting against the mabeasts (like when he tried using the same magic trick against julius in this episode)... and he was kinda a nosy butt in the last episode too when he tried "saving" that girl... idk i still feel they could have foreshadowed it more, that stuff was normal subaru behavior but this ep he disrespected emilia way too hard, it felt like it was too sharp a turn oh another thing i really liked from his shouting match with emilia is when she called him out for putting her on a pedestal. he really does have this perfect image of emilia, that's kind of a compilation of her best moments in all of his respawns. but she's not perfect! i'm glad they pointed that out |

With that, the buildup makes more sense when observing his behaviour over S1 in retrospect, in case you haven't worked out any theory from your side yet. Nevertheless, his inflated ego around Emilia was also due to her own actions, unbeknownst to her: She was quite protective around him during the Mansion Arc if you look at it. Gave him food, shelter, teaching lessons, job etc. She stood up for him when others were busy pinning him under suspicion. Plus, factor in the lap-pillow scene and the 'date' he desired with Emilia in Memory Snow OVA, he mistook her actions as someone who just understands him: his thoughts, his actions and struggles very well....all without any explanations from his side (cue in the Satella plot-device too). Then, as you said, he built this perfect image of her and this misunderstanding was hurled right back at him by Emilia herself. |

I loved the first 12 Episodes. I watched them in the span of 2 days and stayed up late because I usually do not have time to do so. I loved the idea of the show. I loved the struggle and mystery about the witch and i was enjoying the strange loneliness he feels and the dynamic of it. Despite that in this episode the protagonist seems to lack any ability to think straight and has no self awareness. Why would he pronounce himself a knight? It was so cringe and bizarre. I wasn't even able to finish 14. I lost interest fast and I now realize I just really don't care about Subaru or his journey anymore. Before I felt invested but he now doesn't even come off believable. I know they clearly wanted to have some break between him and Emilia but this was a really sloppy way to do it. Also I understand they want to show a gap in love between them because Emilia does not remember the memories he has with her but even with those memories, his love for her is creepy. He is like Yandere creepy about her but not even in a good way. I don't know if the show gets better but I kinda don't care. I never had an episode ruin an entire show for me. I had episodes I thought where painful to get to the end of but I have never had a show take all the excitement and thrill out like this one. |

I honestly hated emilia in this episode. Subaru was astonishingly dumb in accepting that challenge, but anyone can see that his anger was due to how emilia was treated. He was trying to defend her and her honor. He partially succeeded in the throne room then miserably failed when he took on an impossible challenge, but the fact remains that it is pretty damn obvious he did it for her sake. To treat him like that was beyond terrible. I do wonder though (and have been wondering for awhile), why hasn't he tried to write the truth on papers and then leave the papers somewhere that emilia or one of the servants will find it? seems like the most logical method to explain everything without actually having to say a single word to anyone specific. |

Here it is, the highly controversial Episode 13, it also marks the second turning point of Subaru's character, there's a lot to analyze here especially the final scene. Felt being very violent lol, she's very clearly pissed and not happy about any of this shit. The mood is getting tense with the return of Felt now as a candidate, some people are not happy about it, especially not for Emilia, a silver-haired half-elf who looks exactly like the WoE, Satella. Every knight already has the candidate that they pledge loyalty to, Reinhard to Felt, Felix to Crusch, Al to Priscilla, Julius to Anastasia, and uhh... Subaru to uh Emilia. Reinhard states that he found and took Felt about a month ago, so there was a 1 month time skip between Episode 11 to 12. "Little bitch" Dang Priscilla, though I would like if you could also teach me my place too :) I'm quite disappointed that the candidates' speeches were significantly shortened compared to the LN. Well it's still a decent introduction to the Candidates, their personalites and motivations. Aw shoot, Subaru is about to snap. Ros-chi being megasus. Good for Emilia for standing her ground there. Also a revelation that Puck is the "Great Spirit of Fire". And here it is... a lot of people found it cringy but I personally didn't, no matter how many times I rewatch the show. The Self-Proclaimed Knight, Natsuki Subaru. This is when Subaru's true persona starts to show, under all those happy go lucky front he wears all the time lie a deeper and more rooted flaw in his core, he is an arrogant and selfish liar, and likes doing things to make himself look good to the people he wants to impress, that is Emilia. He loves her, he genuinely does, but he takes it too far, he believes what he is doing it for Emilia's benefit but is actually doing it for himself. Julius asks "Do you have the resolve and strength to make Emilia the ruler?" And Subaru answers that he lacks both but will still make Emilia the ruler, at face value it might seem noble but in truth it's arrogant, thinking you can do something just by believing you can without the strength to do so, or the resolve or determination to actually make it happen is pure dillusion and the peak of arrogance and laziness. Here we continue to see more and more of Subaru's true and rotten personality, and his continuous outbursts of stupidity and arrogance, but I like that, it shows that he is human and has flaws. Out of all the candidates, Felt has the most unspeakable desire, wanting to recreate the kingdom and society from scratch and yet she has the strongest determination out of the five. Rip Subaru, he's gonna get clobbered in this "duel" if you can even call it that. That face... looks really painful, sucks to be Subaru. Being Subaru is suffering. Here it is... the talk with Emilia and Subaru... You can already notice that Subaru is starting to break a little, he calls her Emilia-tan, then stops and reiterates, but now only calling her Emilia without the -tan. "I just wanted to do something for you, so I..." "For me? It was for you, wasn't it?" Bingo. He was selfishly doing things for himself and hiding it under the pretense that he is doing it for her. Remember, promises are very important to Spirit Arts Users, this is really tough on Emilia's side as well, she probably didn't want to resort to doing this but she believed that this was the only way to make things better by just ending it, so Subaru doesn't have to get hurt anymore, even in this moment she is still thinking about others' wellbeing ovr herself. "Why do you keep trying to help me like this?" "Because you helped me" "I... helped you?" "Yes. You don't even realize how the things you've done for me have saved me." "No, I don't, Subaru." Man this exchange hurts... despite Subaru's attitude this episode you've gotta understand all the pain and suffering he has to go through and he has to take in all those burden by himself alone, he can't tell anyone about what he experiences, nobody can ever truly understand his situation. Props to Yusuku and Rie for this amazing voice acting. "Why won't you understand?" I thought if anyone could understand, it'd be you..." "The version of me that lives within you must be amazing. She can understand everything, even if you don't explain it to her. She can feel all you pain, sadness, and anger as her own." This one hit's the bullseye, Subaru has constantly always thought of Emilia as some perfect ideal goddess, he looks at him at how he wants her to be, and not who she truly is as a person. But again another instance of not being able to tell anyone about RbD comes up again, it just goes to show how much it hurts to not have anyone to lean to whenever you have troubles and problems, because they can't understand, they can never understand. "I've... All this time, I've made everything work out all right, haven't I?! When your insignia was stolen, I saved you from an insane killer at the loot house! I risked my life! All because you were important to me! At the mansion, too! Things worked out because of me! Without me, it would've been a lot worse! All of it, all of it, all of it! All of it was because I was there! You should have a greater debt to me than you could ever repay!" This is the straw that brokes the camel's back, we can understand that all of his achievement were because of his own efforts, we can understand that. But it is precicely his greedy and desperate need for attention and reward to his efforts that is really selfish and arrogant, a prominent aspect of his true character. He believes that Emilia should be obligated to him, because he risked his life to save her and everyone. Asking for a reward for one's own effort is not a bad thing at all, but this isn't the way to go about it at all. "I thought maybe you, only you, wouldn't give me special treatment. That you'd look at me in the exact same way you look at everyone else." On Emilia's part, all her life she has been discriminated upon because of her lineage, and people looked at her as if she wasn't humanI mean that's kinda right she is a half-elf nobody has ever truly looked at her the same as others and believed Subaru would but it turned out in the end he was the same, albeit it might not be the same as how others view her, in Subaru's case he views her up in a pedestal while others look down on her or even fear her for sharing feautures of the WoE. This helps give her characterization. A complete breakdown of their relationship. Despite the controversy, this was a necessary episode as it set the gears in motion for Subaru's development and him facing his own flaws and learning to overcome them. |

The past two episodes made Subaru suddenly regress into his goofy self but suddenly turn him into someone more obnoxious, self-entitled and frankly, stupid in this episode and it's not a great, natural way to transition to a new arc. The guy did not deserve any sympathy as he did not whatsoever put himself in Emilia's shoes and think about how his actions being so unpredictable and volatile, could affect her already fragile reputation by a ton and by the end, it was a pretty embarrassing situation overall. It's one thing if his character was consistent with the development from the previous few episodes and this happened, even though it would still kind of suck then. But to develop and grow, and regress into a worse version of himself suddenly by mindlessly trying to support Emilia and protect her without thinking about consequences and how his own actions could affect her despite his good intentions, made him to look insufferable. No amount of loops could justify him in my opinion from being in the right here. He was a straight-up dick and got what he deserved with Emilia ending the friendship there for the time being. Emilia wanted to trust him but by him putting her on a special pedastal and acting the way he did, she can't be blamed. This could have been something positive if the build made sense, but it didn't. Pacing was fast, Subaru's characterization was a mess and dialogue/interactions were terrible in general, this was a pretty awful start to this arc. The novels are more detailed here but even there I didn't enjoy this, but the anime made Subaru even more unlikable here without really much to balance his character on the positive side. |

It suck’s because he can’t tell her about the death leap thing and everything he knows and feels is different from what everyone else knows because to them these things never happened and he can’t do anything about that |

I hate this episode on so many levels. First of all, this is such a stupidly arranged kingdom if they have to listen to minors bicker all the time, and embrace their image in front of an open council, not only ta, a counsel so easy to break into that the old broke man was able to do that, talk about string knights. This episode brought out the worst in Subaru, I don't see anything saving him from this one but another death and reset. |

Weakest episode so far. Subaru has made some questionable decisions but this episode takes it to a whole different level...seriously, just how stupid and entitled can he be?! |

lots of hate from all over for this episode, and i can see why. i can also see why some people liked it, but im over in the hate camp. part of that is my disappointment of the series overall, but there was nothing in this episode that really drew me in. there were some decent parts and i voted “disliked it” but sigh… idk i cant really pinpoint why it bothered me so much. it wasnt the protagonist getting emotionally and physically destroyed though. at this point im rooting for that to happen to him because he’s an awful, stupid person and he deserves it |

Here to say this... totally out of character and forced. But it dropped before, tocus was too much on Subaru and the mansion, not the main plot or the interesting world...i mean, if he had a breakdown, okay, sure, pressure is high, but recently everything went fine...so, where does it come from? and why hate on the knights? he got safed by one before...remember? and how does the old guy get in so easy? nothing made sense. Dropped it. But i give the anime a 6/10, but this episode was one of the worst I've seen, ever |

what an emotional and intense episode. First off, Subaru doesn't deserve to be hated for his actions in this episode, and he isn't a simp either. He is a genuine, honest, sincere, and good person who wanted to look out for Emilia while deepening his bond with her. He wanted to protect her, along with the people he met throughout the mansion arc. Even though he may be flawed in this episode, his character still stands strong. He took on Julius to stand up for not only himself, but for Emilia, to show how strong and resilient he is, despite his past trauma. Stress and PTSD can have negative effects on a person's behavior, and it is the case here, causing him to be stubborn and make poor decisions. Despite his weaknesses, Subaru wants to make everything right to become a much better person than ever before. The scene where Emilia wouldn't believe Subaru's genuine intentions of looking out for her is very sad and emotional. He didn't want to be distanced away from her because of Julius. He wanted to repay her for everything she has done for him, and reminds Emilia of her debts she still has to owe to him. This episode is a 5/5, and significant in Subaru's character throughout the series. Subaru deserves better, and he won't give up, no matter the circumstances. |

He suffered through stress and PTSD from dying many times, and he took great risks to help those around him. Don't forget about the bonds he made with Emilia, Rem, Ram, Betty, and Puck. Subaru doesn't want to give up, he is resilient and strong, despite the difficult circumstances that may be thrown at him. He is a great character, his character development from previously is important. |

If you watched further, you'd see why this episode is actually good, especially in regards to Subaru's character. |
