at the beginning, i was all about PLOT but now ANIMATION is really important to elevate my anime experience, now bad animation feels really like an eyesore unless the plot is like "out of the box" so for me it's now,
plot > animation > cast (character writing) > soundtrack > REST.

so line up your priorities for an anime experience to let others know how you enjoy your anime?

I mind for some anime. For example if I find an anime to be great, story wise, I'll be annoyed if the animation is mediocre. While bad shows having good animation doesn't annoy me for some reason. Either way, I think everyone would enjoy a show more if the animation is good.

But overall, I'd say for me it's: story>characters>soundtrack>animation>other stuff

Depends, but it's usually not the the most important aspect in an anime to me.

Mine is:
1.Enjoyment
2.Characters
3.Music
4.Visuals
5.Atmosphere
6.Story
7.Others

A good execution (which of course includes animation) can be the difference between a 7 and a 10. However, it won't save a 2.

My top 5 priorities are:
script (not the plot!)
sound
characters
art (more than animation)
directing

As long as the visuals can tell the story properly I don’t really care all that much. Not that I don’t appreciate some top tier animation though.

I'm not 100% sure since it can change sometimes but think about it, it would have to be

1. Characters

2. Story
3. Atmosphere (includes world-building and style/genre)
4. Ost
5. Animation
6. Art Style

art and animation are the most important to me because it's way easier to find decent stories.
at least half of what I've seen were capable of telling a story properly. probably more.
now if you consider lack of originality and no ending in sight, that's a different thing.
characters are next on the list. I don't selfinsert, and I don't find most characters relatable. however that doesn't mean that they can be bland or boring. static is allowed depending on the theme and setting.

Depends on the type of show. If it's an action oriented show, animation is definitely more imporant than if I'm watching a rom com. In general, I would say I care much more about plot, characters, directing, and even music. But that's not to say that animation is not important.

Couldn't care less about animation unless it's really bad like chibis or effect spam or some shit. Music is imo more important to me. And everything else.

Depends on how good the animation is or how much it sucks. If it's a decent/good show with average or subpar animation then I don't really mind, since the plot can carry the show. But if the art as well as the animation both are really horrendous, then that's a problem. Classic example SDS season 3.
As for my priorities, they are:
1. Personal enjoyment
2. Story
3. Attachment to the characters
4. Animation
5. Writing of the characters
The priority of the soundtrack varies from one show to another, as a memorable soundtrack can make a show one of my favorites, but a bad one doesn't exactly ruin the show for me, it just goes ignored (sometimes I even end up ignoring good soundtracks).

The visuals of an anime play an important role for me personally. If I don't like the art style I'll probably not watch it. The biggest appeal of anime for me IS the animation as you are able to differentiate yourself from other media (excluding cartoons obviously) Live action movies and tv shows have the fundamentals of story, characters, soundtrack etc but what they don't have is the ability to tell a story through unique animation and visuals.

Animation is one of the less important aspects in my opinion. Other aspects that go into visuals such as direction have a bigger effect for me, and visuals as a whole can't make or break an anime except for very few extreme cases. The most important things for me are good characters and a good script. Also, I think the auditory component is underappreciated.

plot > cast (character writing) > artstyle > animation

Characters can sometimes make an anime less enjoyable.

Usually good anime have a good soundtrack, so it's not that important.

Also, sometimes characters are just ugly in general so it doesn't even matter how good the animation is. So, I'll still struggle to watch.

Obviously good animation is never a bad thing but...in AOT final season: those moments when in normal anime they'd just show the character's mouths moving, the crazy high level animation looked kinda excessive. With all the money they spent animating irrelevant details they could have replaced some of those crappy looking CGI battle scenes.

Most stuff I watch has standard level animation quality and I'm fine with that. However, every so often one of those "special" episodes comes along that shows tale tell signs of budget/time constraints. It happened in Welcome to the NHK, Shinsekai Yori, Higurashi and Noein. It's so jarring and ugly to behold it's impossible to ignore.

Lol, the Noein example is so weird. I've never seen it happen in episode 1 before. What a way to make a first impression.

I will drop a show if it continuously has terrible animation. Certain visuals and the character designs could look good but if the animation involves sliding a PNG across the screen with speedlines or the show is often times just a slideshow with audio, then yes, that will affect my enjoyment.

Of course, it doesn't mean I won't possibly drop the show for other reasons either.

Unfortunately good animation usually implies that the plot sucks.
There is stuff like Violet Evergarden, which is actually a beautiful anime, but all the shounen battles people hype up are just unwatchable.

It surely affects my enjoyment.

I don't need the very best of animation possible to rate anime with 10, but surely anime with bad animation or anime with many lazy slideshows like Fairy Tail surely hampers my enjoyment toward the anime.

Well ,In my eyes animation , art and story all have equal value. If a show has good story but has below average animation ,It ain't getting more than 8 from me . I also don't appreciate below average story with good animation.

My fav genre is action , so animation is most important aspect for me .

Depends on the source material. If the source is a manga I want the animation and visuals to be great. Especially if the manga source has great art because I don't mind reading the manga instead of watching the anime if the animation of the anime isn't good.

LN adaptions and originals however don't have to have as good visuals because I won't bother with the source material so the anime is all I have got.

98% of the time I don't even notice it. I'm starting to appreciate it more, but it'll never have any influence over my overall opinion of a show.

very since if i just want to know the story i will just read the source material like manga so an anime needs to have good eye candy for me to score high

but does that not mean i cannot enjoy a badly animated show like im enjoying Digimon Ghost Game a lot despite my low score of it

Unless the plot is very well executed, I wouldn't really care about the poor animation the anime has. Anyway, I do enjoy more watching anime that has decent animation than ones that don't, so yeah, it affects considerably my experience of watching anime.

2. Animation
3. Cast (character writing)
4. Soundtrack
5. Anything else

Animation is the most important thing in an anime, I don't know why people pretend to enjoy something else

"Characters and plot are the most important aspects in an anime for me, I don't care about animation, Kimetsu no Yaiba is 10/10"
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Animation is a completely worthless element. All I care about is the story and characters.

My favorite medium is visual novels. But I watch anime because they have a lot of content and are convenient to consume.

Characters and their relationship/chemistry
Plot/story/world-building
Music
Animation

If I do not like characters I can't enjoy the story no matter great it looks.
Of course good OST, visuals and such are making it better because this is still anime so all these counts but I would rather have mediocre animation and visuals with great story and enjoyable characters than mediocre boring story and characters which looks and animate cool.

1. Story.
2. Characters.
3. Storytelling.
4. Enjoyability.
5. Music.
6. Art style.
7. Animation.

I could enjoy a slideshow with like 20 frames per minute if everything else were there and the art was nice enough. Maybe animation is like 29th, or 73rd. It's hard to say.

Characters
Music

That three are the most important parts. However, having a GOOD ANIMATION and GREAT ENJOYMENT seem a really stupid mindset for some reasons.

The art and the animation can be just ok as long as it fits the show. I always prefer a strong story/characters as those will be remembered long, after the anime releases. More action and fighting anime its a big part of what makes them good so they need to be on point and would definitely take away from the experience for most people.

Depends.

If they set a precedent of being good, I expect consistency.
Naruto is an example, decent animated fights. then as the scale got larger the style changed and the details changed. Making some of what would be the most epic fights, into a mess for me.

I didn't mind the animation, just approximately everything else. It looked promising, but I was thoroughly disappointed.
That show was like a bad Witchblade.

I guess it matters not much. Or rather, it depends on the premise and the source material. For adaptations I'll have less expectations but it'll have a bad rating if there's not even an ounce of quality. Tantei wa mou, Shindeiru. had some degree of quality though I disliked what I saw, Spy x Family and Kaguya-sama had qualitative animations as well. Animation is also about the rhythm of comedy, for instance. For originals it will be more critical. Because there is no source, the studio isn't bound to a setting or a plot or preexisting "model sheets". Since anime is animation first and foremost I would like something that makes advantageous use of animation, color or voice-acting. But I'm beyond the point where action for action will be enough to catch my eyes. Gurren Lagann was nowhere near a pleasurable experience, and would probably be better for people that are only about eyeballs...

Certainly the animation matters, or else I would be reading manga. I don't think One Punch Man is half as good without the stellar animation.
How important the animation is varies from work to work, but roughly I'll say 30%.

1. Art style/character design (Because that's the first thing i see and what gets me interested in actually wanting to watch the anime lol.)

2. Characters (The most important aspect for me that can keep me invested in an anime even if the plot is lackluster, if the characters are likeable to me and make me get attached to them then i will score the anime much higher!)

3. Plot (A amazing plot or story can carry an anime for me sometimes even if i didn't really like most if not all the characters, such as in Steins;Gate case.)

4. Enjoyment (Because if it bores me to death or manages to really infuriate me, you can bet that i will subtract a lot of points from it!!!)

5. Animation (Animation doesn't need to be stellar, as long as it looks pretty decent and does not sink to the level of the last few episodes of Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou, i'm content.)

6. Seiyuu (Sometimes i will check an anime out because one of my favorite Seiyuu has a role in it, but that doesn't automatically guarantee that i will like the anime or even the character they play to begin with.)

7. OP/ED/OST etc. (I don't really place much weight on it, sure a catchy/beautiful/memorable OP/ED and/or OST is preferable but i won't think poorly of an anime if i happen to dislike the music choices lol.)

No matter how good the plot is, old anime's animation always makes me couldn't enjoy the anime to the fullest. One of them is Ashita no Joe. It took quite an effort and bearing for me to last season 1 at the beginning. In terms of artstyle, JJBA got the artstyle and character design that makes it one of the anime I will never watch.

I don't mind old anime's animation but at least in the 1990s. I don't think I will ever watch anime any older than that again.

Not too much, as long as a show is generally well presented I don't mind much if the animation isn't great. I mean, it's not like 70s stuff and even some early/mid 80s stuff has a bunch of fancy animation but it's still great. It's about the heart!

honestly, depends on the series.

even if we ignore aspects like story and characters.

it's still a 50/50 if the directing is more important or the animation.

it is a completely case by case thing
