I mean yeah. Statistics don’t lie, although I have disliked some highly rated shows (jjk, monster, Clannad) in general it leads me to good products including everything in the top ten excluding the stuff I haven’t gotten to yet (Logh, gintama, fruits basket)

Although I also take recommendations from people I trust, or just stuff that catches my eyes or ear

sometimes, It has a high score for a reason.
Currently I am watching Hunter x hunter (99) and I so far do not agree with the score.

Anything that looks interesting I give it a shot :)

High ratings can be one of the reasons, but not the main reason for me to watch it.

The higher the score, the higher the probability it will be good, even if this probability is far from 100% (I'd say around 30-40% for the top 250).

But I would never avoid an anime because of a low score, I just need another good reason to watch it (someone's recommendation, interesting premise and trailer, skilled staff, etc.).

I've watched a few shows rated below a 6 and they weren't good. As much as people complain about MAL's ratings, they can be useful.

Somehow I'm usually most interested in anime where the score is around 7. I don't look at the score but they end up naturally just being around there, though I guess really high percentage of anime has a mean of 7ish.

There's way too many really high rated anime I haven't seen.

Not really, i watched based on the topic first and how interested i am in it.
Score doesn't really influence me, but sure do help especially the anime with score lower than 5, there a reason it is below average which actually quite bad to watch. If the score still above 5 and below 7 may be watch it only to fill time

No I dont watch shows because of their ratings.

I have been many times dissapointed by watching overhyped shows such as MHA or JJK.

AOT was good but it was not good as much as I expected. It was probably because I expected a lot from this anime because of the hype but it didn't matched my expectations.

Seeing a high score has never made me more inclined to watch a show I will watch based on whether or not the show sounds interesting.

That being said if the score is low the odds are the show is not going to be very good, then again if the score is high there is also a chance the show will not be good so scores are like a 50/50 on whether they mean anything useful

It can be a useful sometimes. But a lot of anime I love aren't given scores I think they deserve. If I judge solely by score, new fans will never give my shows a chance. I think scores help you filter anime from the 90s downward, since a lot of them have tons of episodes. But the premise is the main reason I give shows a shot.

No, I don't need rating help. I can usually tell which one I will like and which one I wont at better odds that what rating tell me. Even if my prediction turned wrong sometimes, it doesn't matter, I can just simply switch to next one.

I admit that if I see any title reaching quite high in the rankings I'm going to be more interested to check it out, but only in the sense I'm curious to know what the fuss is all about, not really because it's something I'm inherently interested in.

Other than that, no. Even if generally titles scored under 7.0 tend to be of questionable quality, that doesn't mean you have to automatically dismiss everything below that mark. For example, I'm currently watching some Beyblade titles (all of them scored under 7.0) and guess what, I'm more than glad I tried them.

MAL scores don’t play a role when i search for a new series.

I go through genre list depend my mood at the time then look at the posters what will catch my eye, then read synopsis and watch the trailer and decide if I’m gonna start it (put it on Plan to Watch) or skip it altogether.

No. Definitely no. Most MAL's high scores are usually due to how accessible the anime is to audiences, not about its final quality. FMAB and Steins;Gate are some of the most overrated stuff I've ever seen for example.

I watched many of them, but many times it was a 7 or 8 for me. At least, I was not disappointed for these animes, but their score can’t guarantee their quality sometimes.

Scores doesn't matter to me at the slightest. From what I've learned from MAL is that, not every high rated shows are befitting my taste & there are hundreds of shows with significantly lower rating wich are better than the overly hyped shows airing nowadays.

If I get a recommendation I often look up on MAL so I can decide if I will watch it or not. But there are also anime which seemed interesting and I watched it and really liked it like Scums Wich as an example

Not really. Most people have bad taste and give high score to the most generic shonen rubbish animes, or the ones that had a lot of pottential but ruined at the end so it can be a generic shonen. That's the only reason why SNK still has a high score

I don't automatically dismiss an anime because its low score, or think that a 9+ is a must watch. I read the synopsis and check some images or trailers to decide.

But sometimes the majority is on the right track, so I usually sort the titles within an genre by score to look for something to watch or If I'm torn between two or more anime I may pick the highest rated one.

MAL score is one of the reasons why I would want to watch a show, but it’s not the only reason. If the mean score is below a 6 though, then that’s often a dealbreaker for me; the only exceptions would be if the anime genuinely looks interesting to me, or if the anime is infamous for being terrible.

I mostly don't, but I always check it before starting a new series. If it is really high I watch it even if I'm not very interested; and if it is very low I renounce watching it despite its being captivating

Also I look at the reviews to discover the weak points and strengths of an anime

Of course not, MAL scores are not accurate for many reasons. At least just take a leisure time to enjoy what you're watching as anyones view to any certain series differs. For me, I just choose what I want to watch because I've been interested in their source material or visually, the animation caught me intrigued. I don't want any bad influence just by looking at what people have given averagely for the overall show to affect my personal enjoyment.

I don't. Afterall, the public ratings are for those who rated based on how they liked/disliked the show. It's up to me whether I will like it or not by just watching it, of course. Better not judge the book by its cover.

Since I know people have different tastes in anime I don't pay attention to the score when deciding on a anime to watch. The only thing I pay attention when deciding on a anime to watch is the plot synopsis and sometimes the genre.

I've come to realize some of the best are rated between a 7 and 8. Ergo Proxy only has a relatively low score because it's story is hard to follow sometimes. Also, that OP is peak 2000's. Love it. 👌

Eh, I see what you mean. I'm watching it now, and I can't rate it higher than a 7. I might go for a 6 being technical about it. It does what it does best and doesn't try to be more. I can appreciate that.
